Man prior to the early 2000s this stuff was pretty common. A lot of the girls I went to high school with ignored us guys their age and were dating men 10+ years older than them. The guys had cars, apartments, and jobs. I used to think it was pretty weird even back then but no one ever really said anything about it.. teachers, coaches, even the older siblings of those girls kinda just went along with it. Different times for sure.

You misspoke here though. They weren’t two consenting adults. One was a consenting adult and one was a consenting minor. Legal, sure. It’s a moral issue. Some of our morals are different. These consenting laws were in place to protect relationships of ppl who maybe just turned 19 dating a friend who was 17 going on 18 for example. Issue is it creates this moral grey area where old men could date minors.

At 16 I lived on my own, worked, drove and had already been sexually active for a couple years and. Actively sought out older women. While of course it's natural that we seek to protect young adults from predators, we shouldn't make the mistake of infantilizing them, as they are not infants. Idk about you but when I was in HS I would see girls look for men 20-30's. Thought it was gross then and think it is gross now. In my 20s-30s I was approached by younger women and told them no I am good they are too young. So it is a choice that many young women make. A poor choice. There are young women and women who are victims against their will. I think they deserve more empathy that someone who choses to do something. I would say the same for a 17 year old boy. Same as the ones who are getting caught now sleeping with their teachers. Yet I don't see people saying "don't show their face!" Because they are male and their is an inherent bias that infantilizes women and the reverse for men in society
