Discussion Should I take N4 or N3?

I’m currently studying abroad in Japan and am planning on taking the JLPT for the second time in 2027 December, I took the N5 last December and passed with a good score and I am studying here for 4 months. All my peers and a couple teachers are saying to take the N3 but I’m scared I won’t be able to learn all the new material in time😭 I think I’m mostly nervous about skipping a level but am willing to try for N3. Would it be possible to take it next year after studying abroad and still getting tutoring?

N4 Taking JLPT4 in Lesson Than Two Months. Please Help Me.

Hello,

As the title reads, I will be taking JLPT4 in December. I have completed Genki 2, all of the Bunpro N4 grammar, and reading practice for N4.

I took one of the practice tests and didn't do so hot. 52.3%. Worst was listening. Can someone please recommend some optimal resources to help get me prepared? For reference, I am level 22 in Wanikani as well.

Thanks so much.

N3 Is Shin Kanzen Master N3 Grammar Worth Adding After TRY! and Sou Matome?

For those who passed N3, which grammar book helped you the most: TRY!, Nihongo Sou Matome, or Shin Kanzen Master?
I’ve already studied with Sou Matome and TRY!, but I still struggle to distinguish similar grammar patterns and choose the correct one in questions. Would adding Shin Kanzen Master Grammar help, or should I focus on reviewing the books I already have?

Discussion The method for JLPT ★ questions (most people guess the star — don't)

この道を _ _ ★ _ あります。 Pieces: まっすぐ · 行った · 銀行が · ところに

  1. **Start from the end.** あります needs a subject with が → 銀行が goes last.

  2. **Plain verbs sit right before their noun** → 行ったところに.

  3. **Adverbs come before the verb** → まっすぐ first.

まっすぐ/行った/**ところに**/銀行が — the ★ is ところに. Build the whole sentence, then read off the third slot.

N3 Can anyone helppp!!! 😭

Actually i passed my N5 and was aming to give N4 next but the moment i checked the forms they were already filled out so i thought I'd give directly N3 in july next year skiping N4. I don't know if it was a good idea. But here i am, i haven't started my N4 syllabus but I'm aming to finish it before this year ends but i don't know if i should refer books or study online maybe because i didn't find much help from books and i was totally dependent on online material. Please if someone could help me guide for N3 i would really appreciate it.

N5 N5 listening test tips

Hi everyone! This year I’ll attend for my first time the jlpt N5.
I’ve already done the audio tests on the sou matome, but they’re only a few.

Is there something else that I can use to improve my listening ability? I’ve tried with the Bunpro readings, but they’re too fast for me…

Thank you!

N2 I’m looking for N2 Anki Deck

Hello
I’m looking for N2 anki deck that I can actively use daily. It would be helpful if the same deck had vocab from previous JLPT N5-N3

I appreciate it

N3 Scoring 130–148 on N3 practice tests but 93 on Migii—is Migii harder?

Is Migii harder than the actual N3?
I’m taking N3 in December. I’ve done two Bunpro tests and three other tests (one mock and two papers), scoring 130–148/180 on the latter three.
But I scored 93/180 on Migii a few months ago, and after three months of studying, I got 93 again today. Reading and language knowledge improved, but listening dropped—the audio wasn’t very clear.
It’s discouraging. Has anyone failed Migii mocks but then passed the actual N3 with a good score? How did your results compare?

Study Pal [PH] Fellow newbies, Pinoys especially welcome LF for Study Pal

Filipino learning Nihongo here, a newbie with some rough understanding of 日本語 from watching anime since childhood.
Already memorized hiragana and katakana plus some grammar here and there so I won't be asking you to spoon feed me.
Am looking for study pal or pals, specifically to practice my 言葉遣い and maybe even prep the JLPT. Pinoys most welcome especially. Send me a 'you know what' if you want a study pal.

Discussion Has anyone received the letter invitation to take the Jlpt Practice Test by random draw?

What to expect from it? Is it under real conditions? Can we expect to get our scores before the test? (Practice test date is end of November)

The letter came from the Jlpt Foundation

N3 JLPT N3 GRAMMAR QUESTIONS

I'm currently using Shin Kanzen N3 for my Grammar and the question activities are so useful to test my understanding right after studying the grammar pts.

Do you have any recommendation, website that contains the same formats or questionnaire activities that Shin Kanzen have? Free one would help a lot thank you.

I have to say, shin kanzen is really useful and I would like to intensively study for the upcoming N3 exam. Thank you!

Discussion What pencil to use on exam day? Pen?

I don't wanna mess this up for some silly reason. But are there requirements around what pencil/pen is acceptable? Dress code for the exam? Anything like that I should know about so I don't make a silly mistake on exam day.

N3 Advice For The Next Two Months? (N3)

Hello All, I'm currently studying to retake the N3 this year. I didn't do well last time, 77/180, and I've been focused on this for most of this year. However, my recent practice tests have scored both 88 and 90 which is still below passing. With the final two months does anyone have any good advice on how to best aim to get those last few points? I feel like there are questions I can snap answer and then question with content I've never seen before. Below is about where I was last practice test.

Vocab: 20/35 = 57%

Grammar: 9/23 = 39%

Reading: 8/16 = 50%

Listening: 16/28 = 57%

I currently use custom Anki cards, Wanikani, listening test practice once a day (3 questions) and I've been playing Ace Attorney about an hour a night to help my reading speed. Thanks!

Discussion Do you all feel like there is just too much pressure about the JLPT

Hey LearnJapanese

I am restudying for N1 and taking it again, and today, I just wanted to speak about a little concern I have regarding the stress of the JLPT, and pressure.

I feel like wherever I go, I feel like I am being constantly harassed and pressured and compared about taking the JLPT.

When I always study other stuff, I’m always asked on if i’ve passed N1. Or even had it. Professional Workshops, reading, kanbun, kobun, whatever I do.

And if I ever wanted to be a Japanese teacher I would be needing the N1. Or etc. and its mandatory

And when I fail, i would be labeled as someone who sucks. That almost made me quit a Japanese ta job.

We always mention JLPT levels everywhere because it is perceived to be so important, too.

Honestly I’m getting so tired of the harassment and i feel burned out. Part of why i want to pass this is because of the harassment.

Do you guys feel the same way.

N5 Taking the JLPT N5 in less than 2 months with barely any Kanji memorized, am I cooked?

I only have Hiragana and Katakana memorized to read and write so far, listening needs improvement, vocab and grammar is (unfortunately) from either J-dramas or anime. Looking into those ai speech apps for output since I'm too shy for hellotalk (might js get into it when I feel more desperate)...

Any tips, books, or any form of resource to recommend so I pass will be very much appreciated
