Research Lab Problem

So I'm currently a freshman majoring in BME, and I just joined this research lab on the med campus about two weeks ago. A couple of days ago, I talked to a senior in BME at a pre-health event, and when I mentioned my PI's name, she told me he rarely lets undergrads add their names to publications from that lab. I know that it's only been two weeks, but what should I do? Should I talk to my research mentor about it? Should I switch to another, more open lab?

MedLife & Doctors Without Borders

There's a lot of student initiative in each club. There's advertisements on some of the initiatives can count towards clinical volunteering. Which initiatives are more worth while and/or more developed?

Are the SLTs worth the 2k?

HERO Prior group interview advice?

Group interview for priors is this weekend, and I feel both prepared but also severely underprepared and really nervous...

does anyone have any advice? is there anything i should focus on (skills, things like burn charts/med dosages, specific parts of calls, radio/handoff reports, etc)? how does the group interview work (like do they just do a bunch of mock calls, or is there like a skills sheet or protocol quiz or nremt-style questions)? roughly how many people get invited for a 1 on 1 interview?

any insight on what to expect/advice on how to study would be appreciated so so so much, tia :)

tldr: how does the HERO group interview work (like what to expect), and what/how should i study?

Online Developmental Genetics Lab over the summer?

mostly a curiosity question... i saw that in past years the Developmental Genetics Lab course has been offered over the summer, but it's online and it's only a month long. I was just curious if anyone's taken it or knows someone who has taken it, and if anyone can provide insight to how this works?

Personally I find it kind of intriguing that they're able to do a lab course online and in a relatively short period of time, and I'd appreciate insight into how this works :) again, just curious (though i might seriously look into this ngl, but that's a later problem)

CBID MSE Application w/ no prior BME background

Graduated this year with a bachelors in mechatronics engineering. Currently working full-time in the energy industry but I want to work in medical devices. The format of the CBID program is honestly everything I'm looking for but I'm worried my non-BME background + lack of non-BME projects puts me at a disadvantage.

Wondering about the stats of those that applied and got into the program (GPA, background, relevant experience if any). I'll still be applying regardless, but would like some advice on how I can make my "non-traditional" application stand out a bit more. Thank you!

Electrical Engineering at JHU

Hello, I am applying to JHU this year as a high school senior for electrical engineering. From a quick Google search, I found that the top EE schools are MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech, UIUC, UC Berkeley, etc.

I want to major in EE because I am highly interested in neural engineering, medical devices, and biotech and want to work for a company that pursues these fields. My reason for posting in this subreddit is to hear from current/graduated EE majors at Hopkins and if it is a good idea to apply Early Decision (ED) to Hopkins (meaning that if I get accepted, I must attend Hopkins).

How are the job outlooks, internships, other opportunities for me interested in this career path and major?

Moving

I am starting my grad degree in fall’27. When is it a good time to start looking for apartments as a grad student and moving in? What parts should I be at if I am aiming to live in a more clean and suburban area? Apartments preferably.

Hey guys taking girlfriend applications!

Looking to find a true love here at JHU but to be honest every shot i've taken has airballed. Tried out a few clubs tryna find my bae but really it just hasn't been going well. as a Redditor I find that those who aren't on reddit don't connect with me as strongly as fellow Redditors.

thus, I have decided to go forth with my quest for a partner on reddit. any single/unhappily taken ladies who are looking to meet me? I am originated from albaquerke New Mexico and dabble in a bit of monkeytyping. dm if interested OR if ya know anyone! first date thinking ffc or Nolans.. if we are on a budget we can camp out on the breezeway until a random club starts giving out free food 😉

Free Charles Village housing over winter break in exchange for cat care

Basically what the title says - my partner and I are leaving the country for all but one week of winter break (Dec 13-ish to Jan 19th) and are trying to arrange care for our two cats during that time.
We have a spacious 1bed apartment on St Paul street close to campus. We’re ideally looking for another Hopkins student or anyone who would be interested in staying here rent-free during that time in exchange for feeding and caring for the cats, and can discuss payment on top of that as well.
Thanks!

Alzheimer Buddies Volunteer Program

Not matched :( Is volunteering through Alzheimer Buddies different from volunteering at Keswick directly? I have limited experience working with Alzheimer patients. Any other way of gaining exposure working with Alzheimer/Dementia patients?

Any experience and application advice appreciated.

Who will replace President Daniels when he retires?

He's been doing great work for well over a decade.

But he's on the older side and imagine he'll have to slow down eventually. How do you see the most likely successor situation playing out?

Statistics courses for pre-med?

I want to eventually find time to take a statistics course (as recommended by the prehealth office and also bc i think stats will be useful regardless of where i end up in the future), and i was wondering if it would be more useful to take Public Health Biotstats or Prob/Stats for Life sciences

my main issue is that i've done some statistics in the past but it was poorly taught so i don't really know that much, and it seems that Prob/Stats for life sciences is more comprehensive but i've heard that PH biotsats is easier? also a little worried since prob/stats for life sciences is through whiting but i'm in ksas (molcell, so stats technically isnt required but its something i regret not doing in high school and again think it will be useful)

basically which one (or other stats courses, idk) would be better in the long run as a premed? also are there any stats courses offered in the summer online (if i can take it online during the summer that would be even better for me, but it's whatever if i cant)? any advice/insight is greatly appreciated, tia :)

tldr: is public health biostats or prob/stats for life sciences better for premeds?

International student + non-engineering background — how competitive is JHU BME MSE?

I’m an international medical graduate (MBBS) looking to transition into Biomedical Engineering and am considering the JHU BME MSE.

For those familiar with the program:

  • How competitive is admission to the JHU BME MSE?
  • What 2–3 things would you recommend I do over the next year to strengthen my CV, particularly given my non-engineering background?

Would coursework in programming/math, research experience, or technical projects make the biggest difference?

Would really appreciate advice from current students or recent graduates!

Intro to Moral Philosophy for Bioethics minor?

I was looking at the requirements for a bioethics minor, and went to the course catalog to see when specific courses have been available historically. And I noticed that Intro to Moral Philosophy (AS.150.220) hasn't been offered since Fall 2025 (like it was usually offered for the spring semester, but there wasn't one for spring OR fall 2026)... but it's still listed as a requirement for the bioethics minor?

Does anyone know what happened to it (like was it discontinued? how does that work for bioethics?)? Or is it just not showing up on my end and something is wrong with my SIS?

Am I on a good track for med school? Inquiry for JHU students

I have joined a few clubs at JHU and I am quite unsure whether I am on par for what med schools are looking for. For reference, I have my own approach to admissions which I have dubbed "Niche." I really do not like the COOKIE CUTTER stereotype that JHU students are placed under, because it is not all cookies here. So I am developing my own plan, feel free to dm me with any inquiries. As of now, these are the clubs which I have become a participant of to reflect my goals.

  1. Diabolo
  2. Fire-Spinning
  3. All Nighters
  4. Sirens
  5. Soap Carving
  6. Tea Club
  7. HERO

I have taken up a few leadership positions in these clubs. In Tea club I am the organic waste disposer and am responsible to dispose of all the organic waste. Thinking of dropping HERO in favor of club Columbia bc I have one 1/2 Columbian friend. I am kind of mad at him right now though so I might not join. He isn't a part of that club but I just wanted to be in solidarity. Please advise on this inquiry.
