Proposed “Hall Of Shame” (We’re taking name suggestions!)
Hello r/jewelry! If you haven’t yet heard, one of our amazing Mods was interviewed by The Journal Podcast for an episode called “AI Loves Reddit, but Redditors Aren’t So Sure”. It explores how companies are quickly realizing how AI (unfortunately) utilizes Reddit, how that affects their online presence, and how we mods are fighting back against their attempts to manipulate content in their favor. It’s a great episode and a short listen, we recommend it to everyone, not just r/jewelry folks.
For quite some time, we mods have been discussing the possibility of creating a pinned post where we highlight brands who use certain unscrupulous tactics in an attempt to improve their online reputation. A “hall of shame” if you will, though we are taking suggestions for what to call it. Give us your most creative ideas!
We have a Mod rule here in r/jewelry: WE DO NOT REMOVE LEGITIMATE REVIEW POSTS. Reddit really is one of the last places on the internet where you can get honest feedback and opinions, and we will continue to do all we can to preserve that to the best of our ability. Threaten us all you like, you’re always getting directed to take it up with Reddit Legal. What’s that you say? Reddit Legal wouldn’t deign to respond to your cries of libel and defamation? Fucking shocker.
Here are two of the tactics we see most often:
- A) Brands using multiple bot accounts to spam the comment sections of old posts with fake positive reviews or recommendations.
- B) Brands using multiple accounts to harass us in ModMail, usually with poorly contrived AI generated legal threats demanding we remove a post.
When A happens, we have to go through the entire sub and manually scrub content and ban users. It’s an insane amount of work. Luckily, this hasn’t happened nearly on the scale it used to since we added BotBouncer to the sub (HUGE shoutout to that Dev creator, frfr), but we are always keeping an eye out. The technology is ever evolving, and we are trying our best to keep up.
When B happens (and boy, does it happen) we start with telling them “No, sorry. We do not remove review posts” and encourage them to reach out and work with their customers or improve their business practices. Sometimes that’s it, but most times they start moving through the 5 stages of grief. We tell them over and over “again, hard NO”, and that all future correspondence must be directed to Reddit Legal. If they continue to harass us (almost always with multiple ModMails from multiple different accounts over weeks or months) we then threaten to pin the post to the top of the sub for all 1 million + visitors per week to see with pinned screen shots of the ModMails they’ve sent to the comment sections. This tactic usually works, but again not always.
This is where the idea for a “Hall of Shame” style post started to take form.
We can’t reasonably pin EVERY post about a lousy brand to the top of the sub. So this is what we’re thinking: a pinned (Name TBD) post, by Mods, with links to all of the offender posts in the comments. This would not be a place for disgruntled customers to air grievances. This would be strictly for Mods to post the receipts. To arm you, our community members, with information about what brands are playing at these games behind the scenes so you can make a more informed decision about who you want to spend your money with.
It is important to state: we fully understand that there are crappy customers. As any business owner in any industry knows, you’ll always get that one customer who will NEVER be satisfied no matter what you do, for whatever reason. That is NOT what we’re talking about here. We’re talking about big brands with 1.6 star reviews on TrustPilot, where the negative experiences expressed by the OP’s are echoed by dozens of real users in the comments. We’re talking when it’s blatantly obvious the intention is to scrub negative content off the top google search, because these posts ultimately always end up being mass reported for every wildly egregious Reddit sitewide rule you can think of when everything else fails to get it removed.
SO, what does the community think? Is this something you’d like to see? Ideas? Concerns? Let’s have a civilized discussion about how to send a message to these brands: Bullying and harassing in an attempt to bury your shitty business practices will backfire in spectacular fashion, and earn you a very-much-not coveted spot on the pinned (Name TBD) post!
If you made it this far, thank you for reading! We would love to hear your thoughts!

Edit because apparently I don't know how to use this damn platform.

⚡️Brand Review / Experience 🚨Warning: Brilliant Earth strategizing damage control to bury genuine reviews.
Just a heads up.. if there’s a sudden wave of positive Brilliant Earth content on here, it might not be coincidental. They’re actively hiring for a Reddit Strategy Manager, which says a lot given their reputation in this sub.
I genuinely hope this leads to real changes and accountability, not just an attempt to bury valid criticism and firsthand experiences.
We are discussing the best way to discourage these larger brands to infiltrate possibly the very last place on the internet for genuine company reviews and feedback. Being specially named on their job posting is concrete proof of their targeting and we will do our best to reach out and work with other sub mods about this concern.
An auto message with some links of genuine higher traction posts is one idea and we have another tool we don’t want to mention yet in case they are tracking our post. We are of course open to all member suggestions and look forward to doing our best to protect you all from disingenuous influences.

Vintage / Antique Some of my Georgian (true antique) style rings 🩷🤍
I love rings from the Georgian (& early Victorian) era with their cannetille, scrollwork, hand carvings, rose cut and old mine cut stones!
From left to right:
- pink topaz ring, foiled to the back, not hallmarked but looks to be late Georgian
- 5-stone ring with old mine cut diamonds, hallmarked but too faint to make out anything but the Birmingham anchor
- light blue topaz ring, not hallmarked
- cabochon garnet and diamond ring, inscribed August 16th, 1856
- memorial ring with a locket of hair, inscribed March 3rd, 1816
- diamond trinity ring, not hallmarked

⚡️Brand Review / Experience A PSA for holiday/online shoppers:
Hey everyone! I know the holidays and Black Friday are coming up and some of you may be shopping for some Jewelry, but before you buy anything, please be aware:
(Disclaimer, I am neither a jeweler nor a lawyer. The following information is readily available online and this post is a expression of my opinion only.)
Due to a negative shopping experience in a NYC location of Mejuri, I have discovered a worrying trend across several online jewelry retailers.
Last year for Black Friday, I purchased a flat curb link chain from Mejuri in a NYC location for about $700 USD as an early BD gift.
At the time of purchase, the saleslady explicitly told me the chain was made of solid gold. (Edit: I had purchased 2 solid gold rings from Mejuri before, so thats why I just trusted what she told me. )After 5 months of normal/minimal wear, the chain became irreparably kinked and damaged (see pictures). The chain was never exposed to poolwater/saltwater. I only slept or showered in it 2-3 times and I always put it in its pouch, in Jewelry box. You can imagine my surprise when my "solid" chain was so damaged!
Mejuri denied to issue a refund, stating that the 30 day window had closed. Employees tried to gaslight me into believing that I had somehow caused the damage and tried to "encourage" me into accepting store credit. By doing so, I would forfeit my cash refund.
The Federal Trade Commission, the federal agency whose job is to set forth and enforce proper business policies clearly states that the way the chain was advertised on Mejuri's cite is considered misrepresentation of the product and deception of the consumer. (See below/pictures)
As you can see from their website, Mejuri is in violation of the FTC's codes and possibly NY state consumer protection laws (pictures).
The reason I make this post is so that you, as the consumer ca be aware and learn form my mistake. Mejuri is not the only online/in person retailer that I've seen have a lack of transparency with product/pricing or have misinformation/ deceptive marketing on their website.
Some include:
Kinn
BabyGold
Gorjana
Quince
The one thing I want you to take away is this:
"solid" is a word that describes HOW the chain is constructed, not what its actual material is. Any jewelry with a hollow center is NOT solid and should not be called such!
"Gold" + "karat" = how much gold is in the material
these are protected words, since they indicate to the consumer what it is that they are buying. Misuse =misrepresentation!
Note: Weight disclosure is not a requirement, but it allows you to calculate if you are paying a fair price. If the weight is not disclosed, be wary.
I've also included some images describing the different kinds of "gold" jewelry.
Happy /Safe shopping!!
.....
~ Title 16, Part 23 of the FTC’s CFR states:
16 CFR 23.0(b): Scope and Application
This section outlines that the FTC’s Code of Regulations are applicable to jewelry retailers including Mejuri and the precious metal products they sell. The Note to paragraph (b) states that:
“To prevent consumer deception, persons, partnerships, or corporations in the business of appraising, identifying, or grading industry products should utilize the terminology and standards set forth in the guides.”
16 CFR 23.1: Deception (general)
This section states that:
“It is unfair or deceptive to misrepresent the type, … metallic content, … weight, …substance, durability, serviceability, … or any other material aspect of an industry product.
Note 2 to § 23.1:
To prevent deception, any qualifications or disclosures, such as those described in the guides, should be sufficiently clear and prominent. Clarity of language, relative type size and proximity to the claim being qualified, and an absence of contrary claims that could undercut effectiveness, will maximize the likelihood that the qualifications and disclosures are appropriately clear and prominent.”
16 CFR 23.3: Misrepresentation as to gold content
(a) “It is unfair or deceptive to misrepresent the presence of gold or gold alloy in an industry product, or the quantity or karat fineness of gold or gold alloy contained in the product…”
(b) (9) “Use of any name, terminology, or other term to misrepresent that an industry product is equal or superior to, or different than, a known and established type of industry product with reference to its gold content or method of manufacture.”
(c) (1) “Note to Paragraph (c)(1):
Use of the term “Gold” or any abbreviation to describe all or part of a product that is composed throughout of gold alloy, but contains a hollow center or interior, may mislead consumers, unless the fact that the product contains a hollow center is disclosed in immediate proximity to the term “Gold” or its abbreviation (for example, “14 Karat Gold-Hollow Center,” or “14 K. Gold Tubing,” when of a gold alloy tubing of such karat fineness). Such products should not be marked or described as “solid” or as being solidly of gold or of a gold alloy. For example, when the composition of such a product is 14 karat gold alloy, it should not be described or marked as either “14 Kt. Solid Gold” or as “Solid 14 Kt. Gold.”

⚡️ Show + Tell! My Whimsical Ring Stack
I bought the wishbone ring as a symbol of commitment to myself. My papa bought me the opal star ring because of the saying I live by, “Per ardua ad astra,” which means, “Through adversity to the stars.” I’m so blessed to have him.
My ring stack is a bit whimsical looking and I love it!

He proposed to me two years ago with his grandmother’s engagement ring (married in 1952). A few weeks ago we picked out our wedding bands and I love the way her ring is now perfectly framed, like it was meant to be. The ring is still hers, but now it’s mine too. ❤️

Vintage / Antique UPDATE (x2) 💎
Hey friends, we had our AIGR appointment!
It’s a sapphire! 💙
The ring itself, stamped “platinum”, is composed of several platinum metals and then some for a durable foundation. The gemologist predicted the ring dates back between 1920’s-1930’s, he also noted it hasn’t had any restorations or adjustments made to it—it remains as it was originally created. He found the craftsmanship to be beautiful and professionally crafted without a single loose stone despite its nearly daily wear (and my care ♡).
He said the diamonds are natural. 💎
The sapphire was the trickiest part. He said it was a textbook sapphire both in appearance as well as refraction which was 1.762. However, after twenty minutes of speaking to the ring under microscope (😆) he believes that due to the absence of natural inclusions that it is synthetic (lab grown) rather than natural.
He was very particular in his wording, he knows it to be a sapphire, believes it to be synthetic. He strongly urged me to get it appraised (even if I chose to do so elsewhere) for insurance purposes even if I don’t intend to sell, which I do not.
I didn’t make the appointment to question or doubt someone’s education, experience and certification, I’m extremely thankful for the professional identification. That said, I do plan to get it appraised for insurance purposes and believe getting a second opinion may potentially be the next best step for this piece, I don’t think it could hurt.
Thank you all for helping me settle the mystery of the blue stone! 🙏🏻

General Question Help finding Australian jewellery brand please!
Hello!
Earlier this year I came across a jewellery brand, I’d finally love to purchase from them and can’t for the life of me remember the name or find the link I had (d’oh). This is what I remember:
- dainty jewellery, gold and silver options NO gems
- small Australian business
- mainly rings and earrings
- had a celestial/ constellation range
- website had a darker pink or purple background
- there was a lovely fine ring with 4 small stars raised, with a slightly imperfect shape to the stars.
Any leads much appreciated!!!

💫 I made this! / DIY That time I spent four months on a $2,000,000 signet ring.
Here is a bunch of progress photos of making this once in a lifetime signet ring, along with some information of how it was designed and made.
First, Let me preface this by saying that the value of the ring is almost entirely the ruby. It was purchased as a brooch by my client at auction for more money than I’ve ever seen. It is a 10.2 carat, natural, untreated pigeon blood ruby, originally cut by Cartier in the early 1900s, with full documented provenance.
In 2023, I was commissioned to make a signet ring with this ruby. In the photos you’ll see the original design and setting. Once I had the go ahead to make the ring, I (carefully) removed the ruby from the existing setting, and had it 3D scanned and a replica printed for a prototype. Using this replica, I made the prototype ring in silver, to ensure I had the correct sizing and my client was comfortable with the size and shape of such a large signet ring.
Once the prototype was completed and presented to my client, with a silver example of the sculpted engraving I planned for the ring. some changes to the engraving pattern were made, along with an additional detail of a custom designed monogram for the inside of the ring.
From here, I started making the real ring in platinum. I designed the setting with the idea of laser welding the ring in from behind, as opposed to a traditional bezel setting, because the idea of hammering metal down onto a gemstone like this is genuinely terrifying.
Once the ring was complete, I then spent many weeks on the engraving around the stone and on both shoulders, as well as the monogram plate that was to be welded inside the ring after I set the ruby.
The client was very happy with his new ring, and I was very sad to give the piece up, and even sadder about how much I’d underestimated how long this ring would take me to make when I gave him the quote.
Please feel free to ask any questions about the ring!

⚡️ Show + Tell! Cats found an old ring
I love owning cats because you never know what treasures they may bring you. I dont know about anyone else but my cats love to play with jewelry. No matter how many toys I buy, they want to play with expensive jewels and Q-tips. Luckily the ring that was left for me on the kitchen floor today was a cheap Brighton piece, however I have had this ring since high school and it has been missing for probably about 6 or 7 years now. Now that it has been rightfully returned to me, I do believe that Gemini & Tybalt are planning their next jewelry heist.

⚡️Brand Review / Experience Apolliana Jewelry Review
TLDR: Apollonia poorly packaged my jewelry leading to it breaking, and kept making up stories for why the replacement hadn't been sent. I do not recommend using them.
Full Context:
A couple months ago, I fell prey to the Apollonia jewelry online. I looked up reviews beforehand and other than some complaints of the necklaces flipping a lot, I couldn't find anything too alarming. So I purchased it.
After about a month, I finally got my earrings (went with them over the necklace as I was more likely to use them). I opened the package and saw that one was nicely packaged, meanwhile one was just thrown into the box and as a result, it broke. I tried to see if I could fix it at home, but I would need to solder and I am just not skilled in that. So, I emailed the company.
Their response was a generic excuse, no apology or anything, but I just accepted it and moved on. The next day they let me know that the replacements would ship within a few days. Fast forward a month and still don't have them. The rest you can read from the email exchange. Beyond the obvious AI slop reply emails, their customer service is honestly shocking that they would continuously promise and not fulfill.
I really wanted these earrings, so I kept trying. But I just gave up this morning, as you can see. I got rude with them and I do feel bad about that, but as it is likely an AI email bot, I don't think I feel too bad.
