On October 8, 2026, Iroha came across discussions on social media about toxic parents and deeply identified with the topic, feeling compelled to share her own experiences.

“When I was in high school, I had to stay in a child welfare facility for six months, a period that included my 16th birthday. At the time, my life was not much different from being in prison. I constantly had to work part-time and couldn't balance work with my studies. As a result, I decided to drop out of school and started working to save money so I could obtain my high school equivalency certificate by taking an equivalency exam. After that, I devoted an entire year to preparing for university entrance exams.

I left home at 18 and cut ties with my parents. Meanwhile, my mother now works as a nanny, taking care of other people's children.

It's interesting that so many people in this industry have close and healthy relationships with their families. That's why I can't imagine what it would be like to enter this field with a life story like mine. (I'm not judging anyone. I'm sorry. 🙏)

It's incredibly cruel to have to compete on the same playing field as people who come from completely different backgrounds when we start out in extremely disadvantaged circumstances.

In a subsequent post, she apologized in case she had used inappropriate wording when referring to her own mother. She also revealed that she had felt distressed after publishing her account but had nevertheless decided to share her story.

“I hope my story can serve as a ray of hope for girls who are struggling and suffering in life circumstances similar to mine.”

The following day, October 9, 2026, some users posted obscene comments in response to her posts. Frustrated by the situation, Iroha lost her patience and responded:

“Stop thinking that just because someone is an adult film actress, you can say whatever you want to them! ‘Someone could actually die because of this!’”

She emphasized that working in the AV industry is entirely different from consenting to sexual harassment or sexual violence.

“Sexualizing someone in your own thoughts is one thing; making those comments directly to that person is another.”

In a firm tone, she warned that repeatedly attacking someone's human dignity could destroy their emotional well-being, potentially amounting to a form of “indirect murder.” She then added:

“I absolutely will not tolerate people who cross the line.”

After her posts were shared, she received numerous messages of support, including: “Human dignity does not change depending on someone's profession”; “That doesn't mean anyone can say whatever they want”; and “Some people fail to realize that words capable of emotionally hurting someone can also constitute a form of violence.”

Some commenters also argued that legal action should be taken against malicious posts.

On the other hand, criticism also emerged from people with different viewpoints. Some users argued that certain AV films depict crimes or other sensitive subjects and that, if viewers are unable to distinguish fiction from reality, misunderstandings may arise.

This debate raised the following question: How can we distinguish between a performance in a work of fiction and comments that directly attack a real person?

Nevertheless, even if someone wants to criticize the content of a work, that does not justify directing obscene or sexually offensive comments at the performers themselves.

One user engaged in a debate with Iroha, arguing that being an AV actress was not a good career choice because it could create disadvantages in various areas, including marriage prospects and opportunities to change careers. The user also claimed that society might view the profession negatively and that anyone considering entering the industry needed to be aware of these realities.

Iroha responded:

“Isn't saying that society views this profession negatively just your personal opinion? Discrimination and an objective assessment of the facts are two different things.”

She also challenged the arguments concerning marriage and the job market. According to Iroha, based on her firsthand experience in the industry, these claims did not reflect reality. She criticized them as an “excessively sweeping generalization.”

Iroha's statements attracted so much attention that Weekly Jitsuwa published an article about the controversy. The article added that the freedom to criticize different professions does not mean anyone has the right to attack another person's human dignity without limits.

The article was subsequently covered by media outlets in Taiwan, Spain, and Thailand. Iroha shared these reports and expressed her gratitude for the interest shown in the issue.
