Hey guys, I’m a final-year industrial engineering student looking for opportunities abroad. NYC is the front-runner for this incoming Robinhood SWE intern. It's closer to family in Toronto, and the city appeals more. The hesitation is whether choosing Menlo Park would be better for a future full-time role in the US.

This is a summer 2027 internship, with the same TC in either office and a housing stipend of roughly $2.1K/month. The stipend is approximate and slightly adjusted for privacy. The intern's background is backend/distributed systems.

For anyone who's interned in either location, I'd love to compare:

• The actual team and mentorship: who was around, and how easy was it to get help?
• Housing and the summer itself: what did you spend, and did interns spend time together outside work?

Did office location seem to affect return offers? That's the uncertainty behind the choice. For preparing on the technical side, one starting point is Robinhood Interview Questions: pick a backend design prompt and practice explaining the tradeoffs aloud. Yo, feeling pretty depressed latel I’ve gotten the “unfortunately we have decided not to move forward” email more times than I can count if you look at my inbox, I'm pretty sure if you search its 90% of my emails.

But looking back, every internship I’ve actually landed (PepsiCo, Cloudflare, Snowflake, TikTok, Xbox) came from finding recruiter or hiring manager for the role and messaged them myself.

What I do for each application:

1. Apply first, so I have a Job ID to point to.
2. Read the posting for clues. A lot of them name the team, the internship program, or who the role reports to.
3. Go to the company’s LinkedIn page, open the People tab, and search those words. That way I only see people who work there.
4. Look for university recruiters, people on that exact team, and past interns in the program.
5. Send something short like:

“Hi [Name], I just applied to [Role], Job ID [#####]. I have experience at [X] where I did [Y]. I’d love to know if you’re hiring for this role!”

You can also use things like Apollo and Hunter.io to find their emails so you can send a longer email. I think a lot of people have gotten onto this. If you do, try to say, "Hey, I notice you have this role open," and give three bullet points on why you would be a good fit for this role.

Hi everyone, I’m currently pursuing B.A. (Hons.) Economics from a Tier-1 DU college. I’ve recently cleared CFA Level 1 and I’m currently building finance-related projects to strengthen my profile.
I haven’t completed any internships yet. I’m currently hunting for an offline finance internship starting in January, and I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to get one.
However, I’m quite worried about summer internships (2027). From what I’ve seen, many good companies have already completed or started their summer internship recruitment process, and I’m struggling to find opportunities at this stage.
For students who have been through this process, how should I approach summer internships from here? Are there still companies that recruit later, and what would be the best way to find these opportunities apart from LinkedIn and the usual internship portals?
Any advice on where to look, how to network/cold email, and how to improve my chances would be really appreciated. I’m specifically looking for core finance roles such as financial analysis, valuation, investment research, FP&A, etc.
