Intriguing Kiyoshi Kimura and his effect on Somali piracy

Post image

He was, and is, the owner of Kiyomura Corporation, which runs the Sushi Zanmai chain across Japan. In Tokyo he is known as the Tuna King, because every January he buys the most expensive fish at the first auction of the year at the central market.

People here, of all persuasions, believe words over images if it makes them feel good. They only require an article if it doesn't.

Why is few ask for articles backing up random images baffles me

when someone does post an article, everyone just automatically accepts the image as the truth, even though there's nothing in the article that corroborates the image except for maybe a couple of small, barely related details that the lie was derived from

So, we're supposed to accept anonymous reddit comments as the truth, then?

1

u/haustorcina 5h ago

Plus its a fucking article that can lie and twist the fact and not a trustworthy document or body of scientific work?

There were at least two others I recall seeing here with this format image that I knew were out of context or misleading.

I should just mute this subreddit.

this is just social media in general

So, maybe you're right, but, what we're supposed to do here, is believe anonymous reddit comments over an actual real person we can google? See the problem there?

Absolutely not. "Person you hate did a bad thing" infamously never requires elaboration or proof at all.

They were trained by their mothers and aunts posting similar things on facebook without any further citations.

The average person is thick as pig shit.

Came straight to the comments because this was (hopefully to most) obvious shite

Here are some things that people on Reddit firmly believe - and get consistently upvoted for saying - in spite of hard evidence to the contrary:

  • "The customer is always right in matters of taste," was the original phrase.  (It wasn't.)
  • Men leave their wives after a cancer diagnosis at high rate.  (See
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8959852/ for the reality, that cancer diagnosis is indicative of a decrease in divorce rate.)
  • Natural diamonds are as common as dirt in South Africa.  (They aren't, although with synthetics that doesn't matter as much as it used to.)
  • 200 corporations are responsible for most of the pollution.  (Check Snopes for how far this was from the original statistic, that most oil is sold by the 200 largest oil companies.)
  • Billionaires have most of the money.  (Easy to Google that they have maybe 3%.)
  • Americans are dumb (which, considering how many people saying both this and the above myths are Americans, might be more of a confession than an accusation).

On your billionaire point, sure, but the top 1% of the global population own more than the bottom 95% combined. So with billionaires + multi-millionaires it's true, and I don't think that changes the point much

u/Jsc_TG 3h ago

Yes, you have it right, hes ignoring part of the argument. Its an exponential thing. A link to a source that shows this.

I didnt validate the data but it lines up with my past research enough. Sorry, tired.

u/haustorcina 5h ago

You are repeating the lie.

1

u/NoTeslaForMe 4h ago

Yes and no. I think the words are technically true but phrased deceptively.

The top 5% owns about 72%, so that means that the bottom 95% owns 28%, almost exactly 10x what billionaires own.

Sliding in "multi-millionaires" can fix that but is a sly trick. That's going to include a lot of people whose "wealth" is the company that they depend on for work and/or the home they depend on for shelter. In an inflationary world with high-cost-of-living areas, "multi-millionaire" is nowhere near "billionaire"; it's just average, if that. Unless you want to force these people to move away from their family and friends or to downscale radically, they'll just be paper multi-millionaires.

How do you categorize goverment owned assets?

Are you counting all assets or just commercial assets?

Liquid or total evaluation value?

Post…Japan

1

u/SomewhereExtreme924 9h ago

Because people like reading feel good stories. They don't care if its real or not, the headline is what they read and thats all that they needed.

1

u/Hanzimer 8h ago

Because the whole reddit vote system is a joke. Majority of serious sites removed the downvote and the positive votes are generally hidden.

1

u/Mr_pessimister 5h ago

What are you talking about? Somali Piracy definitely isn't a thing anymore...

1

u/Jsc_TG 4h ago

It has been for a long time. Did you think we use reddit because its really any better? Scroll “all/popular” and theres a ton of shit like this, there is an actual story behind this but not so sensationalized like this.

Bec Japan is mentioned

What’s wrong with it? He did help. Supplied boats and gave them a buyer.

u/Nersius 12h ago

One bad habit I had was using upvotes as attention raisers.

If something sounded interesting, yet I knew it was likely BS, I'd still upvote it so that the claim could be elevated and fact checked.

u/One-love-brahhh 11h ago

Thats pretty dumb
