Intriguing Kiyoshi Kimura and his effect on Somali piracy

Post image

He was, and is, the owner of Kiyomura Corporation, which runs the Sushi Zanmai chain across Japan. In Tokyo he is known as the Tuna King, because every January he buys the most expensive fish at the first auction of the year at the central market.

This is not true. Source: have eaten fish in Somalia.

Exactly. Folks are confusing preference with what Somalis actually eat. Fish and chicken are common in coastal cities like Mogadishu and Merka, while goat and sheep are more common in other areas, especially rural ones. It’s mostly just preference and availability.

They said the fish are for foriegners and the local somali oriented stores and restaurants don't buy it. If you had fish at a somali home you should document it.

Its still taboo, especially among inlanders. You can literally google why somalis don't typically eat fish. It will tell you the historical and cultural reason.

Its similar to saying americans don't eat offal. Yes there is a small amount of americans that eat offal and there are dishes and recipes for it. However, growing up in the usa I never had offal even once in the thousands of homes and restaurants I ate at. I went to Mexico and it was offered at almost every home and restaurant.

No one said that no somalians ever ate fish. Just that its not normal or a part of their culture. It was a somali fisherman that said somalians dont eat his fish, only foreigners. I guess your argument would be with him.

"They told sonny they don't eat fish in Somalia. The ones they catch get sold to other countries. He basically asked why a country of starving people wouldn't eat fish. He was told they don't know how to cook it."

"No one said that no somalians ever ate fish."

Lol

Anyway I'm sure the fisherman said what he said and fully believed it. I however know better than to take one man's preference and paint the whole country with broad strokes.

To use your Mexico example, there's millions of Mexicans who will claim that flour tortillas are not Mexican and real Mexicans only eat corn.

Meanwhile flour tortillas have been a northern Mexican staple for centuries.

The exception that proves the rule. An overwhelming majority of somalians don't eat fish. Some exceptions on the coastline but its still taboo. My offal example still stands.

A burrito is made with a flour tortilla and a taco is made with corn tortilla. Everyone in Mexico eats both. Terrible example.

Lol so you have as much in depth knowledge of Mexico as you do Somalia. Keep moving those goalposts and have a nice day

Ive been all over mexico its my favorite vacatio spot. Used to be hard to find flour tortilla in southern mexico but it's more common now.

No one moved goalposts i stand by my original comment of what i head a somalian say.

Yout attempt at a gotcha moment is failed. Its also not daytime. My comparison of offal in the usa to fish in somali diet stands.

Someone literally said they ate fish in a somali home and you told them to document it because you thought it's that unheard of.

You went from "Somalis don't eat fish." To "Eating fish is taboo but people on the coast eat it."

What do you think moving goalposts means?

People on the coast still rarely eat it. Its an uncommon dish. You can literally google it.

Yes there are exceptions that prove the rule. Are you arguing that fish is a common somali dish?
