Don't forget to set the frame rate to unlimited and the mode to high resolution if you're on PS5, this game basically had a built in PS5 patch before PS5 was even a thing.
A lot of games that had PS4 Pro enhancements benefited from being on PS5. God of War 4 is another one that got a boosted frame rate and resolution because of it.
Oh yeah, literally every PS4 game that didn't hit it's desired frame rate and/or resolution on PS4 PRO hits it no problem on PS5, then a bunch got patches that upped the frame rate (in rare cases resolution as well) on PS5. However Second Son is in a unique position.
When it first launched, like a lot of PS4 launch titles it had an unlocked frame rate but due to the PS4's lacking CPU it rarely touched 60fps, so they patched in an optional 30fps cap. Then when PS4 PRO support dropped they added another toggle for a higher resolution but kept it separate from the frame rate toggle so technically Second Son has something akin to a PS5 patch before the PS5 even launched.
That is strange, like some other early PS4 titles the digital and disc versions are considered separate, I have both so I'll check this out when I get a minute
Oh that’s weird. They should work. All of my saves from playing on disc are usable with my PS+ digital copy. In fact, all games should have interchangeable saves like that.
It was an issue with early PS4 titles, only a handful are affected if memory serves.
I originally had Second Son on disc, then got a PS+ copy (selling my disc) then re-bought a disc copy years later. Last I checked the saves aren't interchangeable.
Which sucks as I only figured that out after selling my physical copy having to restart the game again which I had finished 100% on good and bad lol
I've got a screenshot and marked the two settings, the language they use isn't great but switching the "Frame Rate" setting to "Unlimited" and the "Performance" setting "Higher Resolution" will get the desired result
So the two graphics settings are “Higher Resolution” and “Higher Framerate”. That’s how it should be.
Higher Resolution runs the game at 1800p, while Higher Framerate runs the game at 1080p. On PS4 Pro the actual fps is inconsistent on both modes, with Higher Resolution mode running around 40-45 fps, while Higher Framerate is closer to a consistent 60fps. On PS5 the same options are available but thanks to the extra power all modes run at a locked 60fps, so on PS5 you can do Higher Resolution to get 1800p at 60fps!
Note that you need to set the “Frame Rate” setting to Unlimited, not the 30fps lock (obviously).
God of War 2018 is actually a bad example because that actually did require an update to do 60fps on PS5 because they had previously patched out the unlimited frame cap.
Yep, 2 seperate settings "Frame Rate" and "Performance" the wording is a bit funky but setting them to "Unlimited" and "high resolution" will get you 1800p@60
I wish this game had weather changes or something like that.
The game looks incredible, yeah, but the gray, cloudy sky and wet floor/streets in the first few missions looked so fucking good.
I just played it again last week & it’s still a timeless beauty. Has to be one of the most gorgeous games of all time. No idea how they managed to do that in 2014. Hopefully this engine can be put to good use in the future aswell
I really wish they had done the same thing Infamous 2 did where after you beat the game with both karma paths you could have a playthrough with both upgrade paths mixed, pick and choose
This game was gorgeous the day it came out and it's even more so now. It may not be my favorite in the franchise, but it's definitely my runner-up from the sheer beauty and gameplay standard it set for any future content that may come out, should suckerpunch revisit the IP
Why would we need a remaster of a game that already looks this good and can be played on PS5? Better to remaster the PS3 games, which have much more noticeably aged and are unplayable on PS5.

in my opinion, infamous second son has one of the best cities you can see in a video game.
