Movie Review I love that Other Mommy (2026) isn't afraid to let their monster come out SWINGIN Spoiler

Saw it at the weekend and I love that the scene from the trailer where she's cramped up under the table with her limbs splayed everywhere happens BEFORE the title card - like barely 5 minutes into the film. It's a refreshing change up from the normal paranormal gaslighting themes of recent female-led horror. Nope, in this film, everyone is aware of the demon, fucking terrified all the time and the movie doesn't give you a chance to relax because the characters don't.

Discussion Was IT: Chapter 2 (2019) overhated when it released, or did it deserve some of the hate it got

I was rewatching this since it’s the Halloween season, and sure it’s not as strong or better then Chapter 1 and the CGI is overuse, but other then that I kinda liked it.

Since I was aware about the mixed to negative reception it had when it released, I wanted to ask other about their opinions since it’s now been over 7 years since its release.

Discussion Why did Obsession break out of the horror movie bubble?

In 2026 we had a lot of great horror movies and I loved Obsession but I noticed how it was the horror movie that most people talked about it (specially non-horror fans)

Like for example, I LOVED Buddy and Hokum but I didn't see my friends talking about it. Also horror movies always get mixed reviews but Obsession got really good reviews (from critics and public)

I love Obsession but I do wish that other horror movies got some love too

the Others - influence on Mike Flanagan? Spoiler

I just saw The Others (2001) for the first time (I know, i know... i don't know how it took me so long) - and wow, honestly five stars from me. The film is aesthetically beautiful in every shot, Nicole Kidman was incredible, the slow burn is paced phenomenally, the plot twist was nuts... Loved this. Seen a bunch of crappy movies in a row recently, and this really rejuvenated my love for the genre.

Anyways, while watching, I thought The Others must have been a big influence on The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor - the settings alone were visually very similar. (Not just 'another haunted house film', they really looked reminiscent of each other.) Especially when adding the Bly Manor dynamics of the house owners, the servants, and the children. I also have felt Flanagan's work delve into the difference between adult and child perceptions (in Hill House, Bly Manor, and particularly in Oculus), which was a major theme of The Others.

And lastly, the scene with Nicole Kidman in the room with all the draped-over belongings and mirrors in storage was VERY similar to an iconic scene in Oculus with the draped statues and the mirror. To the point that now I think that scene in Oculus was basically a reference to The Others. Flanagan's work has a similar devotion to a timeless set design and overall visual aesthetic. Anyways, just some ramblings here since I like thinking about this stuff. Happy October!

Upcoming Movies What are your expectations for Rob Jabbaz's upcoming Crossed film? NSFW Spoiler

• Upvotes

My expectations are personally very low. I'll explain why. Feel free to disagree with my takes and educate me on whatever you might know about the upcoming movie. Feedback is welcome:

To be blunt, even with the director of The Sadness behind this (Being honest, I don't think that movie was nearly as close to matching the brutality of Crossed as some make it sound), I don't expect this to live up to the hype. The effects on the infection's signature facial cross look fake to me. It looks like cheap Halloween store latex or red strips of Fruit Rollup stuck onto the faces. In-universe, it reads more like skin peeled away as opposed to a rash. The comics made it look more like the infection's bumps and sores forming the cross pattern INSIDE the flesh, not just on it. This immediately gives me a low-budget vibe, which is the opposite of what I think would be needed to do this particular IP justice upon bringing it off the page. Some of the destruction scenes in the comics are LARGE-scale stuff. This is one apocalypse you can't sell with the same effectiveness by only shooting a few scenes on the street or in rural areas with only brief glimpses of the outbreak on international news. Some landscapes & sequences in the comic go city-wide.

If this film tries to compensate for that with a green screen or digital background (E.g., like Disney Star Wars does for so much of its content now), I guarantee that will stick out like a sore thumb. This kind of project demands a healthy amount of practical sets + production value. The CGI currently doesn't look convincing at all either. No, I don't care if it's unfinished. What you put in your trailer will be judged by how it looks, not what it may look like later, and I'm under no obligation to give the effects artists the benefit of the doubt. If you want my praise or respect for your work, you earn them like everyone else. Granted, the movie might come close to matching the comic at points, especially if it reins in its ambition to only adapt the first volume/comic run. But the medium of film (especially in the industry's current state) has more red tape on what you can get away with. One obvious reason is that more people watch films.

Historically, cinema is far more in demand and therefore subject to greater scrutiny. Hence, the subgenre of extreme horror comics isn't as restricted compared to even the most controversial horror movies (I believe this is a major factor in why there are so many more comics than films that push the envelope as far as they're able to). Realistically, I don't see any possibility of this adaptation being as graphic as the source material, especially at the comic's scale of the apocalypse, with an R-rating. It would need to be NC-17 at minimum for something this unadulterated. There is NO WAY the censors won't be all over editing the gore + r*pe scenes down if it tries to get away with a mere R.

E.g., the salt circle (If you know, you know; If you don't know, PLEASE don't Google it unless you have a damn strong stomach because you'll never forget it). If the most gruesome footage is released in some Unrated Director's Cut, which was once a more common marketing tactic to increase home video sales, I think many fans will probably just end up ignoring the theatrical run altogether and save their money to rent or buy the version that represents Rob Jabbaz's intended complete vision (E.g., on streaming). Overall, my most generous outlook is that this will be remembered as little more than a passion project with a few memorable moments. If, by some slim chance, it makes its money back, I doubt it will become an ongoing film franchise in the same vein as Saw. The worst of Saw's content, or even The Sadness's, is insignificant next to the tamest volume of Crossed. It's seriously THAT messed up.

Spoiler Alert The Girl Next Door (2007)

Yesterday night I was in a mood to watch a horror movie and I was recommended by gpt to watch this movie and i was highly skeptical. I dived in blindly and I swear, I have never been more disturbed to this extent before. I have watched more henious real crime documentaries of SK like ed gain, jack the ripper, etc. but nothing is as closely disturbing as this one. I slept and got up today with a dull and melancholic mood.

spoiler ahead

I don't know what it is about the movie that disturbed me the most but I guess the following are some of the reasons:

  1. The setting : the setting did not feel unreal or staged. There was a rawness, authentic vibe about the set up as if I was watching a documentary of the actual (sylvia likens) case. The stillness and emptiness of the neighbourhood also added to the comtrast of the chaos inside the house.

  2. Background score : the absolute somber and pensive mood the bgm triggered goes well with how the story escalated to the extremes of misery.

Special the music score when David was lying with the battered body of Meg.

  1. The manner in which emotional and sexual abuse (besides physical abuse) is shown so unadulterated that it gets under the skin and hits a nerve straightway.

  2. I was most disturbed by the trauma received by David becoz he had to live with the guilt, the shame, the regret of not being able to save the person he loved. Of seeing the same girl get tortured and tormented in front of his eyes before she passes away, with hope. That hope Meg had at the end must have scarred David forever because he too must have thought that they both will make it out of this mess safely.
    But...
I could feel how her last words would reverberate in his ears till his last breath, as if he would be carrying her share of pain and trauma with himself, for life. It's like a haunting of the soul.

I somehow related much with David. Because he lives on with the pain. 😊

What was the most traumatic part of the movie for those who watched it?

Soapbox Carrie 2026 was awful and I will never trust Flanagan...again. spoiling series paragraph 2

I have liked alot of his work. Midnight mass defiently a favorite.

So imagine my shock that instead of making some small creative liberties we end up with something not only unrecognizable but contradicts itself

Some were mad carrie is yet again not chubby and unattractive. Didnt care because none of the renditions do this.

Some were mad about that it is modern times and involves social media and what not, again, didnt care. Honestly I am sure social media bullying is far more traumatic and horrifying to a kid.

Was actually surprised and liking the series for awhile. Some things from the book that werent in the other adaptions would pop up here and there and I found that really funny that this version did it and the others did not.

I think teenagers watching this show knowing absolutley nothing about Carrie they would love it. I think theres quite a bit of boss bitch energy in it as well that some female viewers will enjoy. However, the ending completley derails this in multiple ways and made me instantly forget about the good.

Carrie meets a friend that they pretty quickly show you isnt real but I will get back to this, this imaginary friend is also an outcast, also has powers. Helps Carrie learn and use her powers. Scene where we see shes imaginary but the foreshadowing is so in your face you wouldn't be surprised.

HER MOM, the mom confused the hell out of me trying to understand if I am supposed to see the fanatical horrible torturing narcissistic monster from the book or if im supposed to like her theres so much back and forth with her actions seeming genuine and then channeling the book that I still have no clue what Mike wanted from me. Carries mom eventually learns about carries powers and meets a witch hunter lady who was the mom of another witch and tells carries mom the only way to stop Carrie is kill her. Carries mom doesnt want to and leaves.

During the series a narrator is telling stories of great witches and psychics throughout history at the start of each episode. how sad it is that men thought they were all crazy or frauds and killed them.

The series slowly foreshadows and introduces other witches that are looking for Carrie but then when they finally show up at the prom, they dont do anything. Why are they there? Did they forsee Carrie going nuts? They dont go after Carrie. They dont kill other students to help her they dont do anything. The witch hunting lady is also there. How the fuck would she know to be there? Dont worry mike isnt going to tell you anyway she just is. She tries to kill Carrie, the other witches stop her then the other witches run away. Also the imaginary friend wasnt actually imaginary and is a witch that can project herself.

Still during the prom where we are supposed to see Carrie unleash her full power and slaughter the school. Its not even her. Its her witch friend she met who takes her over and does it for her, robbing Carrie, of carrie. Carrie still kills Billy and cris in the car and blah blah. Goes home, mom tries to kill her. Carrie collapses the house on them both but is fine and saved by new witch friend and they drive off into the sunset. CARRIES MOM ALSO SURVIVES.

THEN inexplicably the narrator from the start of each episode turns out to be the head of whatever coven the other witches are from. Shes interviewing witnesses of Carrie AND THEN SHE WIPES THEIR MIND the witch whos pissed that stupid men dint know witches are real is wiping the memories of people who know they are real...what the actual fuck mike?

But the final nuclear bomb he drops to make sure nothing will ever grow again is she brings in carries mom to interveiw. Its revealed carries mom also was a witch but never learned to use it....then the coven leader kills her mom.

So we robbed Carrie of killing her mom AND prom. Great job dude.

Its entirely obvious this is setup for some greater Flanagan king verse or a show about the shine but holy shit dude just make that dont butcher Carrie to introduce it you weirdo.

Wow you read this far? Thanks!

Discussion Horror fans who are into shipping, do you have any horror "crackships" you really like?

For those unaware, a crackship is the romantic pairing of two characters that's bizzare or really absurd, usually with characters not even from the same media.

I've noticed some pretty interesting horror crack ships recently on Tumblr and Tiktok, I've seen people shipping Jason Vorheeves and Carrie white, Iris from Companion and Nikki from Obsession, and even Simon from Iron Lung with Ryland Grace from Project Hail Mary (I know PHM isn't a horror movie, but I felt like they deserved a shout out since that ship is actually pretty popular).

I'm asking this question cause I'm just kinda curious to hear the kind of interesting pairs people cook up, I love stupid franchise cross overs. So yeah, don't be afraid to share, i'm just curious.

Discussion Bagman was terrible. (spoilers) Spoiler

Anybody else get the feeling the script was written by Ai, the movie was rushed and actors line deliveries were terrible?

so many things wrong with this movie, from every time their son is targeted they still choose to put him in a crib in a separate room and watch him through a baby monitor instead of keeping him beside them in the same room (there’s even a part when they are in bed with the wife’s sister after an attack and their baby is STILL in his own room, both doors closed watching through a baby monitor?!?!
make it make sense.

all the line deliveries leave so much to be desired, from emotion, vigour, sadness, everything.

it was so lackluster, the only big fight scene which lead to the “death” of the dad which didn’t even seem to be that emotionally charged as it should have been was terrible.

overall 2/10

‘Ma 2’ current synopsis staring Octavia Spencer:

So I know someone who is working on this film, and while it’s very early in production I thought I would share the current plot synopsis with u all since I think it sounds pretty interesting, the current title they have been using while working on it is “MaMa”…

Years after surviving Sue Ann’s horrifying reign of terror, Maggie Thompson is thriving as a confident college student pursuing a career in fashion and modeling, while her mother, Erica, struggles with sobriety stemming from the guilt of her role in the events that changed their lives forever. Determined to make amends, Erica dedicates herself to mental health advocacy and supporting victims of trauma, but doing so unleashes a ghost from their past, resulting in the mother and daughter being dragged back into a nightmare they thought was over. As they uncover shocking secrets revealing there was far more to Sue Ann—and her twisted legacy—than they ever imagined, Maggie must reunite the original friend group, along with some unexpected new allies, for one final party to confront the evil that plagues their pasts once and for all.

Discussion What’s your favourite horror movie, and what horror movie you think is the best?

I know many people may say, how can you claim your favourite horror movie isn’t the best to you if it is a subjective question. But some people do separate their personal preference (which, as subjective as it is, is actually a really objective statement about their tastes) and what they think is the best (which, even if it sounds as more objective, it’s a really subjective question, paradoxically).

So, what is your favourite horror movie ever? And, in case it’s not the same movie (because if they coincide, say it’s both), what horror movie you think it’s the best horror movie ever? Doesn’t matter if it’s based on movie quality or on the actual horror it generates, any answer is valid :)

I just was not feeling it, I pushed myself through it. Maybe its popular in the same way that Terrifier is, for the gore? I’m not a fan of that franchise either so maybe its that. I know this isn’t a popular opinion, but I had to get it out there. Cheers

Discussion found footage movie idea

So, this guy has a youtube channel and he is a blogger. One day, he goes to the woods with his brother in law to vlog but he gets jumped by a homeless person and uploads it and everyone thinks it's a ghost or something so he rolls with it. The fame goes to his head making him crazy and he keeps doing those "ghost" videos in the woods with his brother in law until he offs him and blames it on ghosts or demons. No one finds out about the murder and guilt eats him alive until he offs himself on stream in the same woods that started it all.

What do yall think? Would you watch it???

House of a 1000 corpses missing scenes

Hi! Reposting this from r/Robzombie just in case anyone here knows anything <3

I don’t know if the title describes best what I’m about to say but anyway.
I watched the film for the first time when I was a kid and rewatched it today with my partner but there were some scenes that looked different than what I remember.
I had a very very vivid memory of the scene where Denise and Jerry are put into the coffin and then in the well: from what I remembered there were piranhas or something similar attacking them.
Also the scene where fish boy is revealed I don’t know why but I don’t remember him being laying down over a plate; I remember him being hung up in some kind of wooden thing.
I don’t know if I’m just misremembering things or if they were some deleted/changed scenes (as I’ve read that a lot of scenes were later changed or deleted).
Does anyone else remember something like that or am I just confused as I watched it so many years ago?

Discussion Why is Michael Myers not as popular as Jason?

Despite being similar Slashers the Halloween Franchise never seemed to be as popular. Also what if they made Freddy VS Michael Myers instead of Jason could it had been a better Movie?
