Football Midseason Predictions
Let’s see if the Hokies can win the expected W games. It’s possible to W 4 of the remaining 6. Winning 3 would be a great season imho.

Hello Hokies! As we get closer to the football season starting, I thought I'd post about a few subreddit updates.
Last week, I created a poll asking you what to do about content from low-effort or AI-generated websites. The overwhelming response was to ban them, so effective today we will no longer be allowing posts from SI.com (we will add additional websites to the list over time). Sports Illustrated has a history of publishing AI-generated articles using fake authors, besides plagiarizing articles from human journalists. We want to prioritize articles written by human journalists, whether paywalled or non-paywalled (eg. Tech Sideline). This subreddit is intended to be a discussion platform rather than entirely a newsfeed, so we want to prioritize original commentary in addition to news articles.
In the spirit of that, there is a new rule regarding editorial content - all articles must be posted as link posts with nothing else in the text field. You are welcome to summarize articles or share your own opinions about them in the comment section. In addition, post titles cannot be editorialized. I've also implemented a basic character requirement to all text-only posts - 100 characters, which comes out to roughly three sentences. It hasn't been a huge issue yet but it prevents low-effort posts.
I started this in r/VirginiaTech a few years back and thought it'd be nice to bring over to this subreddit. Every week or two, there will be an automatic post for users to submit photos they took related to VT athletics, and the photo with the most upvotes will become the subreddit banner and be displayed on the sidebar for the following week.
Since I took over the subreddit last year, I've more or less been running it by myself. I've mostly let the community shape the direction because it was dead for so long, but we need more mods as we enter the football season as well as create more concrete post guidelines. If you're interested, apply here. All mod communications will be in the VT Discord server as it is also home to the r/VirginiaTech and r/blacksburg mod teams, so an account is required. I don't plan on closing the form anytime soon; it will probably stay open for most of the season unless I get a lot of applications.
If you have any other suggestions or feedback for this subreddit, feel free to send in a modmail! I'm currently working on some fun stuff like live scoreboards for game threads (none of the existing apps support college football), but I don't know if I will have that done in time for the start of the season.

I’m sure people will handle this rationally

Minnesotan Hokie heading to my first game since 2019. Is there no off-campus bookstore anymore? Seems like both volume 2 and the downtown bookstore are closed? Is the on campus one still incredibly hard to park at?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Former Virginia Tech standout Divine Deablo had quite a night on Sunday Night Football for the Atlanta Falcons.
Deablo racked up a team-high 12 tackles, the highest single game total for the former Hokie since 2023.
Now in his sixth season, Deablo has racked up 387 tackles in his NFL career.

He’s nine years into his NFL career and Tremaine Edmund’s continue to be a tackling machine.
In Sunday’s tie with Washington, Edmunds racked up nine more tackles for the New York Giants and now sits at 41 through the first five games of the 2026 season. He is looking for a ninth straight season of 100+ tackles.
The former Hokies now sits at 941 career tackles, needing just 59 to become the third Tech alum to reach 1,000 career tackles in the NFL.

They believe the Giants/Commanders game is officially the dumbest thing they've ever seen and are putting it above the 6-3 Wake game. I just cannot agree. The commanders/giants at least had POINTS by the time they went to OT. What do you all think?

We knew this team wasn’t some super star team. The 4-0 start fogged us. Made us think we saw something that wasn’t there. The football gods are correcting the algorithm.
We just need this team to not completely sink now

Just going to put it out there now, J-Love has the yips and it’ll be an issue going forward. The last 4 years kicking mostly meaningless field goals in losing efforts is one thing, now that this team has higher aspirations it seems the pressure is getting to him. 40% sure I’m completely overreacting, 60% sure it will indeed be an issue and Franklin won’t recognize it until it costs us another game.

On the TV broadcast, they said the team flew out of Greensboro NC. Why wouldn’t they use the Roanoke-Blacksburg airport?

I hope the Hokies don’t forget the sting from the Pitt loss. They beat themselves on that one and it cost them a spot in the Top 25. But good teams respond, and (I strongly believe) this VT squad is a good team and belongs in the Top 25 conversation.
But Hokies have to prove they’ve grown from last week’s undisciplined, unfocused outing. We don't just need a win; we need to win big and prove we actually belong in the Top 25 conversation. What do you think; how will Coach Franklin and the Hokies respond on Saturday?

Raising The Bar. With less than a month until the first action on the mat, the Virginia Tech wrestling squad heads into a new season with high expectations.
This week, the Hokies earned spots in the top-five nationally in both preseason polls.
Tech sits at #4 by Intermat and #5 on FloWrestling in the first top-25 poll of the 2026-27 season.
