In town visiting family for the next 2 days: seeing if I can find the fishing equivalent of a pick-up game.
Would love to catch pretty much anything large and feisty maybe even something tasty. Have my SC salt lisc and much experience with boats and fishing salt and fresh water.

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to post something like this, but my husband and I are looking to move to Hilton Head/surrounding areas for his new job.
We are currently living in Upstate NY as he has been in the Army for the last 6 years. We are excited to get out of the snow.
We don’t have any children and don’t plan on it, we are childfree. We don’t go out much but we do like to explore places to eat and enjoy hiking, but mostly just want to be at the beach.
I’m mostly looking for advice on renting versus buying. We are on the lower side of income. I make roughly $2k a month on my own, and with my husband getting a new job outside of the Army we don’t know what his pay will look like, but I expect us to make at least $4-$5k per month.
I have my eye on a couple of apartment complexes, especially Pointe Grand Beaufort because of their pet policy. We have a pitbull that is non aggressive and two cats. Every apartment complex has breed restrictions which I am very understanding of, but it makes finding a place to live more difficult.
I am down for using our VA Loan to purchase a home, but with this being our first place on our own outside of the military we are unsure if this place will be our forever home. I also want to be careful with where we live because my husband is a car guy and I do not want to be a burden on nearby neighbors.
Any advice is helpful.

Looking for the nicest sushi spot on the island. Suggestions? Price no issue. Good view is preferred but not a necessity

We are headed down for the first time with our disabled son. In the past he has enjoyed riding on boats to look for dolphins. Does anyone know of a reputable captain that would take a small group of us out in a boat where he can stay in his chair?
Any other accessibility tips are welcome. I did reserve him a beach wheelchair at the state park.
We are very excited to visit!

Hello - my wife and I are heading down to Savannah in mid-October and we will have just enough time to drive out to Hilton Head for one round of golf. What course is the must play while down there?

My family and I will be visiting Hilton Head next week for our dad’s birthday and want to grab some Japanese A5 waygu to cook for dinner because he loves it. Are there any reputable butcher shops in the area that I could expect to have that offering?

Hey folks! We are visiting HHI for the week and wondering if anyone’s got recommendations for a good bar to play pool at? :)

I do not want threading or permanent color. I have mine done when away for the summer and lasts about 6 weeks and looks great. I would like to find someone here.

Would love to usher in Oyster season learning to harvest - maybe around Haigh Landing. Anybody have any tips for the most easily accessible beds - no boat, no kayak (yet). New to the area.

Hi! I’m planning a mother-daughter vacation and I am torn between two spots—Palm Springs, or Hilton Head. We just got back from a beach vacation and honestly, we are beach people. My mom used to live in HHI in her twenties, but that was decades ago and we haven’t been to visit since I was a toddler. (I’m now in my mid twenties). Wherever we end up going, we’ll probably go in January or February. Both flights and lodging in HHI are significantly cheaper—like, we could afford to spend a week in Hilton Head and 3-4 nights in Palm Springs. My main concern is getting bored—I know it gets colder in the winter, and I’m honestly not sure if everything is closed. We live in the Midwest and in our tourist lake towns, truly everything closes up for the winter. (It also gets to be in the negative temperatures regularly, so not sure if that is a factor). Palm Springs has been on my list for years, and I want to see the Salton Sea and my mom wants to do Joshua Tree, so I know we’d have lots to do but the cost and remote locations of some of the things we want to do gives me pause. I’m a pretty anxious traveler, and I’ve found the beach to be pretty regulating for my nervous system. I know it will be a cold beach—like jeans and jackets—but my main concern is, if we rent a condo for a week, will we run out of things to do? I know it’s a common snowbird activity but I also know old people don’t really do anything lol. 😆 I noticed there’s a horseback riding place on Dasfuskie island which looks really fun, but I’m not sure if places like that or any boats are open in the winter or everything is shut in January as is common with a lot of places. If there’s stuff to do, I’d personally rather come to HHI, especially since it’s a place that holds meaning to our family and my mom, but I also know that I don’t want us to be bored for a week. So any input is appreciated! Sorry this is so long, and that it’s the old “tourist infiltrates area’s Reddit when no one probably wants them there” type thing. 😅

What is the offseason like? Is there a legit community there or is it in the surrounding towns? Any insight helpful.

Hi! Im looking for a car between like 2017-2022 and under 100,000 miles.
But here's the issue, I only have about 11k to put towards it.
Does anyone have any reccomendations / where to find something of quality for a price like this?

For boaters who go to Freeport on Daufuskie, they recently implemented a $10 per person dock fee, instead of $10 per boat. Ridiculous for locals that support the business year round and during the week.
UPDATE: Island Security ripped us off. Freeport has NOT yet implemented the pay per person model but for some reason told my son in law that they had and charged for multiple people. It would have been nice if someone had addressed this when I brought it up, but they didn’t.

I have my opinions, but I'm curious to see what others' thoughts are.... What are the best and worse BBQ spots on the island and in Bluffton? Also, what is a place around here that isn't known for BBQ but surprised you with their ribs/pulled pork/smoked wings/etc??

Is there such a thing? I see only 3 places that rent them and it's quite pricey ($600/day for one location). I could rent one at my home location and trailer it in perhaps.

Hello! Visiting out of town for a wedding and have never left my baby with a sitter. Just parent to parent I’m looking for feedback on either of these agencies.
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!

No longer valid. I decided to put an offer in on a place in Sea Pines that is nowhere close to a tennis court. We’ll see what happens.
am looking at making an offer on a shipyard villa that back up to tennis courts
Everything else I like.
However, the tennis courts are a problem and actually tennis is not a problem. My overwhelming concern is Pickleball. What if they turned into a Pickleball court?
Anyone know anything about the Pickleball restrictions on the Island.
