Hville Adult Bball Rec League

Has anyone here played in the winter adult league? Curious what the vibes/age spread is. Also, seems like every year I miss registration, but now that I've caught it I'm wondering how I can pull it off considering I don't have a squad. Is it unusual for teams to pick up a player if they're short (no pun intended)? I'll probably reach out to the admin but was curious what everyone's experiences were... If any.

Best Date Night Restaurants?

I’m going to be visiting this weekend with my girlfriend and looking for a great date night spot for dinner (only will be in town for a day). Currently deciding between Hearth & Herron and Postero but would love other suggestions as well.

Also deciding between Stone Ashe and Marked Tree for a winery if anyone has a preference haha.

TIA!

Hi friends! Are there any orchards that are still open for Apple picking in November? Trying to visit around the 13th but everywhere seems to end 11/1, but figured I’d check here. Thank you!

Solution for Basement Flooding?

The five inches of rain last weekend of course has me wondering how to fix my basement from flooding once and for all.

Has anyone tackled this problem in the area? Does anyone have some great DIY suggestions? The previous owner had some work done that clearly didn't work (reshaping the dirt around the house, corrugated drains, etc). Considering putting a french drain around the house. And potentially cutting a french drain into the basement with an attached sump pump basin. Any ideas?

TW:Animal Neglect. Looking for cat rescuers in the Zirconia Area

I do deliveries and my last one was upsetting. It was to a pretty sketchy trailer park which zero disrespect to anyone that lives in an area like that. It’s just with remote areas it’s higher risk of a redneck with a 🔫. I pull up and there’s a kitten sitting on the ramp that goes up to the door. I’m excited then getting the delivery out I start noticing like 7-10 more cats, almost all at different ages of kitten/young adult age coming over to me. The one sitting on the ramp was by far the smallest maybe 1.5 months old. When I got closer I noticed one of its eyes was so infected it was bulging out of its little head like it’d pop out and its face was red/raw in places. Heartbreaking, noticed several others also had eye infections but not nearly as bad as the littlest one. They didn’t seem feral, were pretty friendly honestly, and looked decently fed. Thought really hard about scooping it up and taking off but was worried about someone coming out with a 🔫 saying you’re stealing my cat. And while being indecisive it went under the person’s trailer. I still have the address, trying to figure out if I can call somewhere to get them rescued. It’s heartbreaking and something has gotta be done. Animal control for Henderson county and aspca nc are the only resources I’ve found to far.

NOAA Water Prediction Model

Thumbnail water.noaa.gov
9 Upvotes

The NOAA water prediction model has all our water guages in the rivers, dams, and other water ways.

For some, you can click the top to see what water is upstream and downstream. You can see high levels of water travel all the way down the waterway if you spend time. Other guages have broken connections.

Yesterday/Last Night, most everything was "Green." Today, You will notice a lot of "Orange" and a few that went "Red" (Chimney Rock) and will eventually return to Green. You might want to get familiar with the color chart and definitions below it.

Starting a local odd job business in Hendersonville called Jerm's Jobs

Hey everyone, my name's Jeremiah, but I go by Jerm. I'm starting up Jerm's Jobs and wanted to put my name out there.
Basically, if you've got something you need done, ask me. Could be fixing a cabinet door, putting furniture together, cleaning out a shed, moving something heavy, yard cleanup, or some random job you don't know who to call about.
I don't want to limit it to a list of services. If it needs doing, tell me what it is. I'll take a look and let you know if it's something I can handle.
I quote by the job, and we'll agree on a price before I start.
I'll come give you a free quote if you're within a 30-minute drive of Hendersonville. Farther than that will cost a travel fee, but I'll tell you how much before making the trip.
You can message me here or call/text me at 828-490-7170. Send a couple pictures and roughly where you're located, and we can go from there.
Big jobs. Small jobs. Weird jobs.
Got a job? Call Jerm.

Hey, Shelby Rae Book Signing

Post image
5 Upvotes

Tyler Cook, Asheville resident and author, will release his first children’s book, ‘Hey, Shelby Rae!’, on October 17 at 10 a.m. at the Avery’s Creek Community Center. This is Cook’s seventh book.

“Hey, Shelby Rae! is based on the real Shelby Rae my family adopted eight years ago,” said Cook. “It dives into a number of themes, including adoption, chosen family, trust and friendship. Capturing her personality was like catching lightning in a bottle, and I can’t wait for the kids, and the kids at heart, to read her story.”

Shelby Rae has one big dream—to find a family who will love her forever. With her loyal best friend, Bobo, by her side, she faces the challenges of life in the woods with courage, hope, and plenty of heart. When they stumble upon a house unlike any they’ve seen before, Shelby Rae gets the chance she’s always wanted. But will she be brave enough to trust again? Join Shelby Rae on a heartwarming adventure about friendship, second chances, and discovering where you truly belong.

A portion of all proceeds will go to the Appalachian Animal Rescue Center of Macon County, who helped the Cook family adopt Shelby Rae.

“There was very little doubt as to which animal cause I wanted to donate to,” says Cook. “The AARC is such a big part of Shelby Rae’s story, and I want to help them in their continued commitment in taking care of our beloved fur babies.”

In 2014, Cook released ‘A Guide to Historic Dillsboro’, now an award-winning book that celebrates the historic town of Dillsboro, North Carolina, as well as raising money for the Appalachian Women’s Museum. Later that year, he wrote ‘The One’ which was released in early 2015. The superhero series, ‘Aluria’, was released in 2016, followed by ‘Vigilante’ in 2017, ‘Disciple’ in 2018 and ‘Remnant’ in 2026.

The Avery’s Creek Community Center is located at 899 Glenn Bridge Rd. SE in Arden, North Carolina. For more information, contact Tyler Cook at tyler@tylermcook.com or visit https://tylermcook.com/2026/09/28/cook-releases-first-childrens-book/.

Month to month rental

I have a friend who is looking for a monthly rental before her next place is ready to be moved into. I know it’s probably a unicorn ask but if anyone knows of anything around $1k that would allow a dog, that would be life saving
