Weekly video recommendation thread [These Videos Are Good, And Here's Why] - October 5 - 11
Happy Monday, my glimmers of hope. Remember, the world might be bleak and heavy now, but as the horrors persist, so do we.
It's October, which means oliebollen season has officially begun, so last Thursday I got my nails done and on the way home got my first oliebol of the season. And now I'm human again.
I love autumn and winter so much. Yes, it rains a lot, but I'm not made of sugar. And yes, it's cold, but I have cozy blankets. And yes, it gets dark early, but I have cute lamps and did I mention the cozy blankets? And for the first half of the season there are oliebollen to keep my tummy warm.
Now for something to watch, as I snuggle through the week. (see that? that's why I'm the queen of the segues)
Did you watch anything particularly cozy last week?
Same rules as every week:
- Must have a link
- Must have a short description
- Must mention video length
- Keep it low threshold with individual videos, please. If you want to rep a whole channel or playlist, please do, but choose a favorite video to make it more accessible
- No risky links, no ricky-rollies, don't be a weenie.
Last week's good videos can be found here and their descriptions here.

I'm trying to find a full transcript of the plagerism video, but I'm having no luck. Figured I'd ask here. Thanks in advance.

Good evening fellow brainmind exploredinaires! Any news about... the unmentionable other than "It's coming, it's coming"?
I know that it is a bit impatient of me with the Hbomb being all wrist-destroyed, but maybe Patreons have some news?
Any news, I'll take:
-he said that it will be like 30 mins shorter.
-he hated the reception and deleted it to oblivion and Patreons are supes scared of telling anyone because he started a full re writing process and promised it will be ready for Christmas (not falling for that one again, but I'd take it as an explanation).
-turns out Kat was Hbomb all the time
-turns out that Hbomb was Joey! It's always Joey!
-he is now a puppet.
-Kat turned him into a puppet in the hopes of healing his wrist and said attempt was unsuccessful.
-the Adobe Must Die video is now a patreon exclusive and we will get instead a Fallout 76 video. On Christmas.
-And basically anything. Come on man! I'm starving here!
With love from Argentina, little girl.

When does a YouTuber become a former youtuber
I love Hbomberguy vids but if I was going to describe the channel to someone with zero background; I would have to say "used to make videos"

What happens when you decompile the entire Adobe Suite and then rebuild it in Open Source using AI and Rust?
Not sure if he has seen this yet, but this might add more of a delay to the Adobe video.

31st December, what game are you most looking forward to? For me, it's gotta be Cornhole! Mad that they licensed those classic Nintendo characters too.

Weekly video recommendation thread [These Videos Are Good, And Here's Why] - September 28 - October 4
Happy Monday, my pumpkin spiced snickerdoodles, are we cozy yet?
I have just returned from a two-week vacation to Denmark, where I did fuck all and the Significant Roommate walked many a kilometer through pretty scenery behind our Brutus. I haven't been this relaxed in ages.
10/10 would recommend a people-free vacation in the middle of wide open vistas. Just you, a book and a view. Good for the soul, that.
It also means we've blasted through our watchables, so I could do with some new ones. Did you watch anything good last week?

“Let’s make our own Game Grumps, with fascism and plagiarism!”
For those not in the know, JonTron was originally the second guy in the game grumps YouTube channel before leaving after a year for various reasons. Since then the channel has become a juggernaut in the gaming space for various reasons, and Jon likely still has regrets over this, so of course he pairs up with another scumbag like IH, and of course all the worst people are hyped and reminding you that being a serial plagiarist is fine if you’re in the right group.

So it’s an on purpose joke that nearly all of his lowest rated movies are about horses right?

Petition to change "Adobe Must Die" to "Adobe Can Go Burn in a Pit Fire"
I'm a visually impaired artist studying to be an art professor. My university requires that I take one audio/video editing class to meet my degree requirements even though I am a ceramics major. This class is 3 hours long and 90% of it is using Adobe Premiere Pro with no work arounds. Adobe Premiere Pro has exactly ONE accessibility feature: a very slight contrast adjustment. The font size is SIZE EIGHT! I read font size 20+ and generally prefer speech to text because computers hurt my eyes. The icons/buttons are also illegibly small and can't be enlarged. And get this, the program isn't compatible with even a SINGLE ONE of the computer's built in accessibility settings, including screen readers, zoom and hover text. It's fucking bricked for the visually impaired and my degree depends on this class.
If you felt like you needed an extra reason to say fuck Adobe today, here you have it: Adobe puts less effort into basic accessibility than virtually any website I've ever encountered and they know full well that just about every public/state university with an art or design program will require their students to proficiently use their software in order to pass at least one class that is a requirement of their degree. Adobe can brick your education that you have paid for in full if you are visually impaired.
Fucking burn them down.

I just discovered a YouTube plagiarist the same way as hbomberguy. Now what?
I will start off by saying that l have spent enough time on the internet to know not to name drop the offending channel (yet).
I am a big fan of deep-dive YouTube, which typically comes from commentary creators who bring their own spin, perspective, and often niche insider knowledge to controversies or events.
Think SwellEntertainment (Has become something of an expert on events/conventions), Jenny Nicholson (long history being enmeshed in internet culture, MLP, theme parks, etc), Matt Bernstein (brings on journalists, shares his lived (queer, jewish) experience).
Just today, I was watching (listening) to a roughly one-year old YouTube video on a niche controversy surrounding one person associated with a major historical event. I had never viewed this channel before, but it was recommended to me as being in-line with the commentary channels I often visit.
About 10 minutes in, I felt that the creator was really staying surface level and seemed only mildly interested in sharing a comprehensive view of the topic. While some people enjoy the shorter "rundown" or summary style of commentary, it's not my thing, so I searched the original topic to see if someone had done a more complete job in cataloging the events.
It turned out there was a very in-depth video (from a professional company that produces in-depth docs for YouTube) available that was over an hour long, so I decided to watch that one instead and started from the beginning.
At just over 5 minutes in, there was a clip of an interviewee using a very distinct phrase/buzzword to describe their experience. Immediately, I remembered the first video using that phrase. When it happened a second time with a different phrase, I looked deeper.
The first creator "borrowed" distinct phrases multiple times, never indicating that these were direct quotes, and phrasing them as if they were either their own words or common phrases used around the event. When I compared transcripts side by side, the creator very clearly used the same sequence of events (albeit condensed and with skipped sections).
They included a line at the very end of their video how they had watched the documentary a few years ago and thought it was interesting.
A few years ago? And yet you took poorly paraphrased quotes from the source material and used their sequence of events?
When I went to review the lifted sections for this post, I noticed that in comparing side by side it was actually entire lines from the interviews lifted and paraphrased, because there were more matching words listed in the same order as the source.
I wanted to post here because I do not consider myself an internet vigilante (in fact I take a lot of issue with that approach) and because I feel that Harry/hbomberguy's approach to the Plagiarism video was very much not apart of that vigilantism culture that we occasionally see in spaces like true crime.
If you were me, what would you do?
The creator that plagiarised has multiple hundred thousand subscribers, and the video itself had over a million views. I would be shocked if it turns out that I can't find evidence of plagiarism in other videos as well.
Do I send the creator a direct message? Make a comment that might never be seen?

Weekly video recommendation thread [These Videos Are Good, And Here's Why] - September 21 - 27
Happy Monday, brave souls. I hope you're able to meet this new week with some serious vim and vigour.
There's very little news from my side, apart from the fact that I've just finished (literal minutes ago) Ogres by Adrian Tchaikovsky, which is about ogres, but mostly about seizing the means of production and eating the rich and all that good stuff.
My favorite quote:
We don't split hairs about who is a better slave master. And you would have been the best owner of all, and that still isn't enough reason to keep you alive once you've decided that owning people is fine, just so long as it's you that owns them.
See? Woke AF. It's only 160 pages. Grab it from your local library and do yourself the tremendous favor of reading it.
Apologies, we're supposed to be about video recommendations. So, got any that can top 160 pages of literary perfection?
