Web Fiction I hate it when powerscalers dont take personality in consideration when making 2 characters fight each other

Post image

im going to use saitama vs goku as an example

goku whoops saitamas ass, but because of his personality he would most likely try to make the fight longer by testing saitamas strength, thus giving saitama the opportunity to adapt to him (as seen in a fight between goku and broly) so yes in a real fight between saitama and goku the best outcome would either 1. the fight never happens because saitama doesnt want to fight or 2. saitama agrees to fight and wins because goku gave him enough time to adapt

Not taking a character's personality in consideration is kind of dumb since you're not comparing the characters themselves but rather their power and abilities

this would beg the question if powerscaling actually puts up fights between characters or if they put their powers and abilities to fight.

Goku didn't gave Broly a chance to grow. He tried to stop the fight using the super saiyan god. Frieza triggers Broly's legendary form killing Paragus to see how strong Broly could be

I mean it makes sense but isn't the idea of powerscaling to just scale their power by raw strength and whatnot? So if you stripped all of their personalities and had it so they knew nothing but to fight the other, who would win

That's what all the kids who recently found out about it do but originally it was about pitting two characters against eachother in an actual fight. Usually you'd have multiple scenarios, one in characater and one where they are just both trying to kill eachother.

u/TheJumpingBox 2h ago

You still do, the term 'bloodlusted' is used to differentiate

Yeah true, then many strong characters could lose if they are more hesitant to do certain things to win

Thragg vs Gojo would be an better example here, like this dumb flying brick with no other abilities that being very fast and strong vs a guy with near impenetrable defense and the power to overload your brains with info who'd win if they're in characters ? Thragg won't be able to destroy the planet like c'mon

I agreed with you until you said "the fight doesn't happen because saitama doesn't want to fight" powerscaling is about who is stronger it is about who would win in a hypothetical If you pit 2 people agaisnt each other in powerscaling it doesn't "not happen" beacuse it wouldbe in character for them not to fight otherwise what would even be the point of comparing 2 characters's strength if they won't fight

thats why i gave 2 options, saitama would most likely not fight goku, leaving that behind i always ttry to make up a reason that make sense for the character for the fight to ACTUALLY happen

u/Sjdbdudmdcakzh 2h ago

I think you may be forgetting that saitama DOES enjoy fighting, it's why he pushed himself so far. There's a fairly good chance that goku's enthusiasm or even his mentions of being the strongest in universe 7 or that he regularly trains with literal gods would entice saitama the same way he actually thought boros could be strong, so as long as goku starts with some form of information or suspicion that saitama is strong then the fight will happen

1

u/Background-Fact-7705 3h ago

Yes I understand but it still annoyed me as this "fight doesn't happen" thing is quite common in power scaling so I just wanted to say Something

Saitamatards when his character hss no oportunity:

2

u/Snootboopz 2h ago

So fucking pedantic, I love it.

Just add "mind controlled to fight" to the debate line, then, jeez.

u/OnKo64 3h ago

isn't he literally the one punch guy? just punch once (1) time ( i have never seen either )

2

u/Emiblocks23 The Captain hativerse (Mod larper) 3h ago

yes, but in his fight against cosmic garou he was throwing out many punches, his power isnt killing everything in one punch, he broke his limiter (kinda like the power scalling inside OPM) which means he has unlimited potential, so he can technically get to an infinite amount of strength but he needs to adapt first

1

u/MostSwaglessMfUKnow 3h ago

Why is this at -1 lmao, anyone who’s gotten into OPM knows that he doesn’t actually one shot everything despite the title

3

u/supreme_waffle2019 3h ago

if he's called one punch man then why is Garou alive? checkmate atheists (no but seriously people who genuinely think "he's a gag so he one shots everyone" are so disingenuous).

Yeah especially with characters like Saitama with the "only when it's funny" wincon.

u/Gawyelmaximopoder 3h ago

This seems a circular argument just to say that Saitama wins thie particular exchange. Yes I aggre with the general sentiment, but I disaggre with baldy winning in any way shape or form.

Honestly, I think the biggest problem with how people view this fight is that they assume Saitama’s power would grow as rapidly as Broly’s.

Keep in mind that Saitama’s greatest feat, even under the highest interpretation, is galaxy level.

The observable universe contains around 2 trillion galaxies in our observable universe.

And so, while I don’t doubt that Goku would keep Saitama around as a training partner and that Saitama could eventually become as strong as Goku. The problem is could he surpass Goku in a single fight the way Broly did? I don’t think so. I just straight up think it would take a very LONG time for him to do that.

1

u/Material_Dot2444 2h ago

I'm not a power scanner but I think I speak your language:

Using Saitama's feats is not a reasonable way to interpret his character. It has been shown both canonically and in the meta text that is AP is limitless or the maximum it could possibly be.

Saitama is never shown to power up. His power is already maximum.

Also the Dragon Ball universe has built-in joke characters and canonically. The only way to beat them is to not fight them.

The only way Goku beats saitama is by distracting him with a pink shit on a stick.

2

u/Flat_Box8734 2h ago edited 1h ago

Eh,

it’s more like he is just constantly growing in power.

Saitama potential is limitless but his ap isn’t.

1

u/Material_Dot2444 1h ago

Well that's a good page. You got me there.

And I shouldn't have said it never has any growth... He did have to train a little bit to beat that crab man.

But like in a practical sense, has he ever attacked someone with inadequate potency to not immediately defeat that character?

1

u/Flat_Box8734 1h ago

I’m a little unsure what you mean, but if you’re asking whether Saitama has ever gone all out in a fight, then yes, against Garou. Cosmic Garou copied Saitama’s power, and they both used Serious Punches, yet Cosmic Garou was fine.

1

u/Material_Dot2444 1h ago

I was asking if there was anyone who didn't lose... He survived... But he did still lose so I'm still counting that as an argument in my favour.

Hey unrelated question, is there a slur for power scalers. Because I would like to use it at the next available opportunity in this conversation.

1

u/Dizzy_Knowledge1044 2h ago

Wait, so Goku who lost IN CANON to a joke character would win against a joke character?

1

u/realhumanskinnotfake 2h ago

Power scaling debates have three flavors

Hard fact vs hard fact (everyone agrees)
Interpretable data (where most debates start)
No evidence (They make up whatever they want until one side gets exhausted and quits)

Going to power scaling communities for deep conversations or basic media literacy is like learning English from a man who only knows Chinese - you’ll quit before you get anywhere.

Saitama is a cartoon character, hes one punch man, his thing is to kill everything in one hit come on

1

u/Choice-Requirement18 2h ago

Bro, i never really dipped into the powerscaling community, but these past couple weeks has shown me i REALLY dont want any part of it. The goku vs saitama discussion has just been like talking to a wall that throws out petty insults when you dont concede. Honestly its mainly stubborn goku glazers. Like i agree with your verdict, if its a straight blood lusted fight to the death, goku destroys saitama at his current level, but if saitama is given the chance to scale up, which is well within goku's character to allow him that chance, it makes sense that saitama would surpass him.

Right or wrong, who cares. Its a discussion, we should be able to just hear each other out and have fun, but the goku glazers act like you've killed their dog. You just cant have a pleasant discussion about power scaling with them because they just will not hear you out. They always have their mind made up on EVERY match up. And they straight up make shit up. I cant tell you how many posts and comments i've seen recently about how "it would take saitama too much time to scale up to goku's level" when literally every time saitama gets a power boost, it happens instantly. But the goku glazers decided this one time it would actually take him weeks to scale up. Like how can you have fun with ANY goku match up when those are the people you deal with.

1

u/Pinkyy-chan 2h ago

Powerscalers actually debate that exact scenario from time to time where goku just let's saitama grow stronger. And the consensus is that goku would win anyway due how infinite vast the difference in their strength is and saitama lacking evidence of being able to grow to that level.

1

u/Material_Dot2444 2h ago

Power scalers frustrate me.

Saitama is a joke character he would win because that's funnier.

And if you think that doesn't count somehow matter or something.

Goku canonically loses to Arale. Being a joke character is a state of being that is canonical to Dragon Ball.

Also, saitama doesn't need to power up. That's not how that works.

They should just say what they mean. I watched Dragon Ball z when I was eight and I think goku's fucking dope.

3

u/Pinkyy-chan 2h ago

Saitama doesn't have toon force, and even if he had it wouldn't mean he is remotely equal to arale.

For powerscaling purposes gag characters are essentially treated as reality warpers, but even among gag characters are vast differences in power.

Dr. Slump even shows that, every villager in penguin village is a gag character, but arale is consistently superior to all of them and can do things none of them can do.

If we take the few instances that could be used as arguments that saitama has toon force like him interacting with space or breaking the 4th wall, it would still result in a toon force that's vastly inferior to arale who can basically treat all of reality as her toy and leave it at any point.

1

u/Material_Dot2444 1h ago

First of all, how dare you use the words "toon force" and maintained expectation that I should be taking you seriously. If I had a prejudice it would be against you people.

Having said that I had not considered the notion that there could be different levels of toon force. I certainly agree that Arale would easily beat Saitama, because that would be funnier. And thus by the transitive property my argument of Arale beating Goku is not a cromulent one for Saitama beating Goku.

However, you have made a fatally flawed arguement in using that arguement to dismantle my arguement!!!!

As Saitama is a gag character because the only reasonable arguement that he isn't one would be that power scalers would argue that stories which have an earnest/serious plot could not have Gag characters. Which one punch man does. But, BUT as you damn well know plots have no place in power scaling. Because otherwise a protagonist would always be an antagonist. Ipso facto by you people's idiotic circular logic he is a gag character.

And by virtue of being a gag character, he would indeed still beat Goku. I know you people love to use nonsense maths. So here's some for you: toon logic is like infinity. They're accountable and uncountable infinities and infinities of different sizes. This is Arale beating Saitama. Fighting about any infinity is bigger than any number this is Saitama beating Goku.

Having said all of that. I wish there was a slur for power scalers because I would rather be shouting that at you than have written any of that.

Sounds like you're salty that Goku loses this one easy.

7

u/Carmine_the_Sergal 3h ago

In character Goku still wins though, he knows when to lock tf in to keep the enemy from getting out of hand, hell he literally had Broly handled til Frieza killed Paragus like a dumbass

1

u/supreme_waffle2019 3h ago

Though if we're doing Goku vs Saitama, Saitama would never really be a threat to Goku no matter how strong he gets cuz Saitama would not be fighting maliciously, especially against the first person who made him have an enjoyable fight after so long.

u/Emiblocks23 The Captain hativerse (Mod larper) 3h ago

i dont care about dragon ball tbh, nor ever liked goku as a character, but yes goku (power and abilities) wins against saitama

0

u/TTarion 2h ago

Says the person mischaracterizing Goku just to say Saitama wins, Goku knows when to end fights and has gone for quick finishers, occasionally even with the specific purpose of preventing someone from powering up

2

u/GusthavoGamerPY 2h ago

Goku vs Broly in super. The guy fought, saw Broly leaving the Solar System for the galaxy in less than 10 minutes, and yet when he went to fight him, he started in his base form.
