Does it also immediately open YouTube shorts instead of the home YouTube screen when you open the app? Because it has been doing that for a while now for me even though I dont watch shorts.
It's been doing that for me occasionally. Not all the time, and most of the time it happens when I close it after having watched some shorts, but I've had a couple times where it will open to shorts when the last thing I did was just glance at my subscription feed.
Good to know I'm not going crazy and/or forgetting what I last did in the app.
I do that with about every 2nd or 3rd video on Youtube Shorts. I don't why I even bother watching them anymore. It seems like Shorts are mainly just stolen content and ai slop now.
What's worse is on rare occasions there's this optional choice of swiping right and seeing ai slop remakes of the same legitimate no-AI short you watched. Like wtf youtube. How much of the platform is ai slop at this point?
there’s typically a period where it won’t show the vote count on posts to prevent hivemind mass downvoting in the instance that the first couple votes put it in the negatives
When it just says "vote", it's either at 0 votes (so 1 more downvote than there are non-OP upvotes), or within the time the vote is hidden (changes from sub to sub. I've seen as low as instant and as high as like half a day)
Always remember that a big part of why we no longer see downvotes is because youtube, the company, is ran by a bunch of snowflakes.
Blame advertisers all you want, cause you are correct, but never forget youtube rewind was among the most downvoted videos on the site and they couldnt handle it.
People always point to the rewind thing but that’s not what it’s about. It’s about controlling narratives. You used to be able to go to a video and see a 5:1 dislike ratio and know the general opinion on a subject.
Now you can never get that.
Now we just get “2.1k likes” (hides the 40,000 dislikes)
Dumbasses say ‘hell yeah bro 2000 people agreed with this!’ 🤓
It’s huge (for social media companies controlling narratives)
it is there. maybe you're talking about shorts? i barely watch those and have never even considered up/down voting those since i keep bookmarks seperately.
I actually think reddit is the worst lol a post can have 100 people engaging and another has 1 million but then they both have 30 upvotes so it seems like both posts got the same traction
idk. Reddit pretty much implies that if your like/dislike ratio is even then it implies that not many people care about the thought or not many people agree with it. Seeing how many people agree/disagree makes it a lot easier to parse how people feel about a certain thought, seeing the whole number that is just a result of a subtraction of two numbers muddles the read considerably.
Yes and no. It's not a bad system, but sometimes it would be nice to see the actual number of downvotes instead of just the cumulative votes (and a percentage if you made the post).
Dislikes are important because they allow us to push back against harmful ideas and hold people accountable for what they promote on social media.
Go on Facebook and post about how much you love Hitler. You might get a few likes, but you won’t see the hundreds or thousands of people who disagree with you. Without a visible way to express disapproval, a small but vocal group can create the illusion that their views are more widely accepted than they really are.
Now try that shit on Reddit, and you’ll likely get downvoted into oblivion. That public disapproval sends a message: these ideas aren’t universally accepted, and people aren’t afraid to call them out.
you can kind of see the downvotes on reddit as long as the upvote to downvote ratio is above 50% because downvotes below 0 don't show. If you replace the "www" in the link with "old", you will go to old reddit where you can see the ratio of upvotes to downvotes and you can do the math to determine the exact amount of downvotes.
For example, I can see that this post has a 97% upvote ratio, meaning that the current score of 294 upvotes is approximately 0.97 * total votes. If we divide 294 by 0.97, you get approximately 303 total votes, which means you got around 9 downvotes on this post.

Not to mention it seems they removed dislikes altogether on youtube shorts
