Web Fiction I hate how the concept of Bowsette is actually used
If you think about it, the idea of Bowsette is actually pretty cool. Imagine explaining what Bowsette is to someone who never heard of it, basically a fan made version of Bowser who wears a power up that turns him into a Peach-like princess. If you think about it, and if you know that Peach is not just a princess who stands around, then you can get creative with her and her personality. Like how does this affect the Mario universe? Her relationships with other Mario characters? What would her personality be like? And you can even come up with your own design. However my issue is how Bowsette is just used as an "uwu cute princess female Bowser", and that's it, nothing else, like she has actual potential most people don't even use, and why is almost every appearance of her just a Peach with a black dress and a few Bowser traits? Make her more koopaling-like, make her bad ass, make her an actual character, don't just use her as a goddamn fan service only character

I mean... my primary exposure to Bowsette was through a body horror animation, so I'm not entirely sure about the rest of it.

Geiger-esque moment (or gingersnaps, if youve seen that) where bowsette actively claws her way out of Bowser.

Why did Bowser gain 3 feet in the transformation?

u/Odd_Board1644 Jul 08 '26
it highkey felt like fetish content over body horror.

The Super Crown itself already kind of removes the attention from Toadette by turning her into someone else.

52
u/ILikeCarlosThePikmin Jul 07 '26
Technically it should be Peachowser
20
u/00Teonis Jul 07 '26
ā-etteā also designates something as a smaller form or more feminine form of something. A smaller peach is peachette, a smaller, feminine bowser is bowsette.
37
u/ILikeCarlosThePikmin Jul 07 '26
It was originally Peachette. The reason it was called Peachette because TOADETTE got the crown. It's taking the ending of "ette" and putting it on "peach"
-12
u/00Teonis Jul 07 '26
I donāt say she didnāt come from toadette. But are you denying that Peachetteās form is derived from Peach? Because thatās what I was saying. The ā-ette is from Toadetteā argument is from smooth-brains who didnāt learn their linguistics.
12
u/ILikeCarlosThePikmin Jul 08 '26
Smooth brain is a crazy insult when you started this by saying "I don't say she didn't come from toadette." Also, you didn't even disprove my argument.
-4
u/00Teonis Jul 08 '26
My rebuttal proposed a question, which you deflected to avoid answering. Do you deny that Peachette looks like Peach?
3
u/ILikeCarlosThePikmin Jul 08 '26
No. I don't deny. Now I have my question: do you deny that Bowsette looks like peach?
-3
u/00Teonis Jul 08 '26
Ah-ha, thatās a clever response.
No, I donāt deny that Bowsette looks like Peach. So in theory, Bowsette should also be named Peachette. (Unless you prefer the red-headed one.)
My complaint about that argument is Bowsette also looks like a smaller, feminine Bowser. I would have to take issue with her looking like Peach with the original artist of the meme. As they are the ones who interpreted her that way.
8
u/King_of_Pink Jul 08 '26
Why are you arguing so hard about the (objectively) incorrectly-named, fanon gooner Bowser transformation?
If it was canon, it would be Peachser or Peachowser or some other version of that name. You know this.
-1
u/00Teonis Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26
You say objectively, but itās actually just your opinion. The character is a fan creation, so the creatorās choice would be the answer. Also linguistically thereās nothing wrong with Bowsette.
If you wanna talk objectively, -ette literally indicates cuteness. And itās my opinion that slapping the names together is not only inelegant, but Peachser and Peachowser are far uglier names.
Iām sure if you had a pen and an apple, youād call it an apple-pen, but clever people would call it a stylus.
→ More replies (0)5
u/Dillo64 Jul 08 '26
Peachette isnāt smaller or daintier or girlier than Peach though. Theyāre the same height and pretty much the same level of feminine.
Her name is Peachette because sheās a literal fusion of Peach and Toadette after putting on a magical Super Crown that turns the wearer into a Peach-lookalike.
The name āBowsetteā could work as a name for a feminine bowser, but thatās not what the character actually is, itās Bowser wearing the super crown and becoming a Peach-lookalike, and thus should logically follow the same naming convention that Peachette does.
-1
u/00Teonis Jul 08 '26
Ah, so your naming is assuming she is a fusion of Peach and Toadette. I never thought of them as a fusion. Instead, I think of it more as an evolution. When the toads need a princess, they crown a toadette and she becomes āpeach-likeā
A fusion is a different concept all together.
3
u/Gorblac515 Jul 08 '26
Peachette is taller than Toadette
1
u/00Teonis Jul 08 '26
Yes, but she isnāt a toadette-ette. Sheās a Peachette, a lookalike variation of Peach
3
5
u/Kind_Potential_4992 Jul 07 '26
I propose a better solution. Remove "e" and "ch" from the peach half. Remove "ow" from the bowser half. So now you have "Paser". From here add an "n" after the "a" and replace "s" with a "z" because it's cool. So now: "Panzer"

Bowsette isn't a trans character. It's basically a separate secondary creation based on a canon character. And completely independent of the original character.Ā
1
u/_Kups_ Jul 08 '26
And that seperate version of the character is a woman despite originally being viewed as a man.
And enjoys being a woman and stays a woman.
Thats a trans woman, just a magic crown instead of HRT.
1
u/Gladcode777 Jul 09 '26
No, a secondary creation is a completely different character created based on a existing canon character.
Not "a trans version" of the canon character.
Basically, Bowsette is a female character with its own design, personality and aesthetic.
Separated from Bowser, who has completely different design, personality and aesthetic.
1
u/_Kups_ Jul 09 '26
And Bowsette WAS Bowser. Thats part of the new character.
Im sorry you find a trans character hot, woe is you.
0
u/Gladcode777 Jul 09 '26
Bro, you're not even trying to get what I'm saying.
No one considers Bowser and Bowsette the same person.Ā
They're two different characters, with different designs, personalities, goals and aesthetics.Ā Ā
Bowser isn't Bowsette.
It's not Bowser that decided to "transition" or any nonsense like that.
They're two separated characters.
Like Sun Wukong and Goku.Ā
Completely different characters.
They're not the same character just because one originated from the other.
2
u/JenkinMan Jul 09 '26
That's not what Bowsette is, she's LITERALLY a transformed Bowser.
1
u/Gladcode777 Jul 09 '26
Bro, nobody treats Bowser and Bowsette as the same person. They have different designs, personalities, aesthetics, and are portrayed as different characters.Ā
The fact that Bowsette's concept originated from Bowser doesn't erase that distinction. Fan artists didn't write "Bowser discovering a female gender identity", they created an entirely new female character inspired by Bowser.Ā
As I said, That's like saying Goku and Sun Wukong are the same character just because Goku was inspired by Sun Wukong. But absolutely no one treats them as the same character. Theres tone of characters that started as secondary creations but are completely different characters now.
Harley Quinn originated as the Joker's sidekick for the animated series, not even from a comic , but she evolved into her own independent character. Her origin doesn't define her entire identity.
Supergirl originated from Superman, but nobody says she's "just Superman."
Shadow the Hedgehog was created as a dark counterpart to Sonic, but he's his own character.
Bowsette is a fan-made meme that quickly became an original fan character independent from Bowser.
It's not "trans Bowser." You're taking the origin of the idea and treating it as though it permanently defines the character just for the sake of some shoehorned "representation," even though that's not how secondary creations and fan-created characters work.
2
u/JenkinMan Jul 10 '26
Alright man, you can tell yourself whatever you like. She's a transformed bowser, that's just what she is. That's all.
1
3
u/New-Berry-3652 Jul 08 '26
Because people don't have an issue with a man becoming a woman, they have an issue with the social politics around the real life version of that
2
u/Flimsy-Secret-6187 Jul 07 '26
what about peachette
7
u/Neat_Window_7384 When I say I got beef with everything they think its funny Jul 08 '26
peachette isn't trans, toadette is the only female toad/mushroom, and the only one with an actual gender, so when she becomes peachette through the crown, she doesn't transition, she just becomes more peach-like

51
u/Cantthinkagoodnam2 Jul 07 '26
Honestly her name pisses me off more than anything
The "Ette" from Peachette comes from Toadette (Peach + Toadette) so Bowser putting on the crown would be like, Peachowser or something
46
u/Jolttra Jul 07 '26
-ette is used to mean a female version of something. Like Bachelor and Bachelorette. Why do you think Toadette is called Toadette? It's because she's a Female Toad.
16
u/Expensive_Mission_71 Jul 07 '26
Older forms of English kept Latinās gender-specific suffixes -tor and -trix;Ā tor is for men and trix is for women. So a male pilot is an aviator, a female pilot is an aviatrix. A male fighter is a gladiator, a female fighter is a gladiatrix.
This contrasts with the modern system, where tor is for both men and women, and trix are for kids.2
8
u/bulletproofsquid Jul 07 '26
Okay.
Then where does the "Peach" part come from in "Peachette", if Peach is not at all involved in the transformation, and Peachette is already clearly female?
3
u/00Teonis Jul 07 '26
ā-etteā can also refer to a smaller version of something, like a kitchenette. So Peachette is a smaller version of Peach.
-4
u/Jolttra Jul 07 '26
Let's just be real here. Does Peachwer really sound good? Or Peachoo? How about Peach Chomp?
OK, admittedly thay last one isnt bad but you get the idea. Bowesette sounds good and generally adding an -ette to these purely Fandom character concepts works better. They sound good, translate the concept more concisely and dont require weird mixed up word combos. It just works.
1
u/BerRGP Jul 08 '26
OK, then explain why the Japanese names for Toad, Toadette, and Peachette are Kinopio, Kinopiko, and Kinopīchi.
The intention of the -ette suffix or the Kino- prefix coming from Toadette's name and tacked onto Peach's is clear.
0
u/Cantthinkagoodnam2 Jul 07 '26
Okay but in the context of the Super Crown transformation the Ette comes from Toadette
Toadette becomes Peachette not....Toadette
5
u/ZPoweredForm Jul 07 '26
I dont know why youāre being downvoted for this. All you did was state a fact lmao.
Peachette is a form of Toadette. All other languages of the transformation come from their equivalent of Toadette and Peach.
The -ette comes from Toadette, just like how the ākinoā in ākinopichiā comes from ākinopikoā (Toadette).
-1
u/Jolttra Jul 07 '26
Because they needed to differentiate her Peach form from Peach proper. Also a secondary use of -ette is to mean something being a smaller version of a thing. Like Kitchen and Kitchenette. Peachette is smaller then Peach.
8
u/ZPoweredForm Jul 07 '26
Theyāre the same size.
They use -ette, to differentiate her from Peach because⦠ette is part of her fucking name? You just reinforced this personās point.
-1
u/Jolttra Jul 07 '26
Its a palette swap, though that game does have pretty squashed graphics and the whole concept was Banished to the shadow relm thanks to Bowsette so we arent getting anything more official stuff on the matter.
Regardless of why Pechetre was chosen, Bowsette is unquestionably a female version of Bowser who is also usually made smaller. It still works. And given its purely a fanon concept, how much of a convention does it need to follow?
5
u/ZPoweredForm Jul 07 '26
Peachette is not a palette swap of Peach, and has appeared in a couple games past NSMBUDX, notably Mario Kart 8 Deluxeās booster course, where she sports a new outfit when driving bikes.
While most people assume that the āetteā would mean feminine (as is Toadetteās original name sake), i dont expect most regular people to think anything more. But in context of argument and discussion based on someone who does get bothered by it, actual research on this topic would help.
Peachetteās name is a combination of Toadette and Princess Peach in all lanaguages, including Japanese where Peachetteās name (Kinopichi) is a combination of Kinopiko (Toadette) and Pichi (Peach) to the point it is officially romanized as āKinopeachā
With the concept that the Super Crown turns Toadette into Peachette, it would make sense that any other character who can use it would be named as āPeach[secondname]ā
Itās not wrong to interpret it as āetteā as in feminine, but most people who were on this trend didnt recognize, research, or care to understand what the original nameās meaning is, and thatās what this person is bothered by.
1
u/Jolttra Jul 07 '26
Ultimate ot comes down to this. What else were they going to call the Peach version of Toadette? Peach Toad? Toad Peach? Toadetteette? Peach 2 Electric Boogaloo?
They went with Peachette beacaue it sounds good and immediately translates the concept of a Peach version of Toadette. Thats all. No more thought into it by Nintendo. So when the fans had this Peach version if Bowser concept come up they had to make a choice. Peach Bowser. Peachser. Or Bowsette. They went with the last one almsot certainly for the same reason. It sounds best and communicated the concept the best. Thats all. The fact its also proper with the usage of -ette is incidental at best.
2
u/ZPoweredForm Jul 07 '26
Nobodyās saying the name āBowsetteā is wrong, just that contextually it doesnāt make sense for someone who understands the original source.

u/BVits-Lover Jul 08 '26
One thing I rather liked about Bowsette, and i'm 100% sure it wasn't meant to go this way, but it became such a trans icon for a bit to me. Like, it was rare that anyone made fun of bowser when he transitioned with the crown, there really wasn't any "omg I'm a girl now" moments where it's played for comedy. She just became so confident as a woman and everything from art to songs were her finally pursuing her true feelings now that she had said confidence.
1
u/Terrible_Zone_0716 Jul 09 '26
Also the fact that the moment he puts on the crown, Bowser/Bowsette's first move tends to be going after Mario instead of Peach (or going after Peach with the objective of getting Mario), giving their relationship a whole other meaning.
2
u/Known_Lobster_9241 Jul 08 '26
Honestly think my favorite was one where she was Bowser's daughter and he kept trying to hook her up with Mario. Also fun fact, not the first 'female' Bowser. Bowletta was terrifying.

2

It isnt a interesting or novel concept its just and excuse to draw cute girls actually taking it seriously is more removed from its original intent than gooner fanart
4
u/TheGhostlyMage Jul 08 '26
Iāve forever hated that dumb stupid name. Itās supposed to be Peachser why the fuck is toadette even involved?
2
u/ENDZZZ16 Jul 08 '26
Because the ette is used as a way to make a feminine word like bachelor-ette, suffrage-ette, dude-ette which is more used in Disneyās live action shows. In this case it was most likely used because toadette was the one who was shown off using the mushroom crown power up that makes her turn into a princess that looks a lot like princess peach which is why bowser was given the name bowsette and resembles peach.

Could be a real fun AU too-imagine a mirror universe with Bowsette being kidnapped by Peachowser, and having to lead the Goombas/Troopas/etc. to rescue their beloved tsundere monarch, similar to how Bowser's portrayed in the Superstar Saga RPGs.
Nintendo would make dozens of dollars.
1
u/Karkava Jul 09 '26
I was thinking of a universe where Bowser has claimed Peach's crown, and it turns her into a girl. She says that it's worth it to claim power over the mushroom kingdom, but she seems to be incredibly comfortable with the new crown she acquired.
So much so that she becomes really possessive of it and locks into keeping it to herself when Mario tries to take it from her claws.

2
u/Pietjiro Jul 07 '26
Mario characters aren't deep, and Peach having a personality is still only a relatively recent idea.
Anyway the real success of Bowsette is due to the Super Crown item being introduced in a moment when the Internet had a particular obsession with goth girls, so "goth baddie Peach" became automatically a winning formula.
2
u/ClownSynth Jul 07 '26
You could give the bowsette saga a try. Its a little deeper and much more high effort than most of what was going around.

Thank you, and I'd like to add on to that. I hate that fans seemed to universally agree this is what Super Crowns did. I think the idea of it only working on Toadette is cool, and could have led to some interesting fan work regarding character specific power ups, but no. It turns everyone into "Peach with an outfit vaguely themed to another character". Gooners piss me off.
