Announcement We do not know when the next chapter will be released! Do not ask where it is!

Hola!

I know everyone is waiting for the next chapter to be released so we can continue along with the story, however I would like to remind everyone to wait PATIENTLY until then. Remember that Morikawa was hospitalized earlier this year and yes while he was discharged, he is well within his right to take his time in getting back to work on the series.

Currently it is unknown when the next chapter will be released as Weekly Shonen Magazine hasn’t advertised Hajime No Ippo for the next issue either. Updates will be provided as they come but please do not flood the subreddit with posts asking for the next chapter! They will be removed.

For any further questions, please look to the FAQ or reach out via the modmail.

Gracias.

Fanart I’m a graphic designer and I made this IPPO poster

I started this anime during the beginning of the year when I started doing Muay Thai, now recently I’ve gone back and been reading the manga from scratch. This series has been a huge inspiration for me, both in martial arts and life, and so I wanted to create a design to highlight how special it’s been to me.

I also posted on my Instagram (isaiah.rylan) feel free to checkout my original post if you like my work.

Sharing here incase there’s some Ippo fans who might like my design. Especially for those who this series has played an important role in their lives like mine, as we learn what it means to be strong!

Theory [Theory] A Fourth Baton Pass: Volg Might Be the One to Pass the Torch to Ippo After Sendo.

Apologize beforehand since the text is quite long, don’t know the outcome and might be speaking too soon as if the current matchup between Martinez and Sendo is a foregone conclusion. George Morikawa could have something different in mind. But if the outcome is as most think it is intended. Then likelihood is Sendo isn’t winning, with multiple hints leading up to Ippo would eventually facing Ricardo.

Think the camp where the four fighters reunited during Wally’s preparation, was intentional, after Sendo had made his opportunity to be the main challenger, the opportunity fell it to Wally of all people, was intentional written to set up a deadline for Ippo to return.

Coach Kamogawa is his 80s struggling with health conditions, Martinez a veteran nearing his retirement, Ippo Makanouchi who has to take drastic action, and while getting there, there are others unintentionally paving the way for him aiming to make the most of what the previous baton holder had succeeded passed on if failing at the task. All having faced Ippo, to Martinez’s knowledge. From Date, Wally, Sendo, and potentially Volg. The Dempsey Roll Boy, who he had sparred years ago, who he forgot to warn Alfredo of his potential. Who beaten the men who he considers have reached the summit of the sport, It likely secure Ippo Makanouchi’s opportunity.

Considering the circumstances of Ippo’s comeback, the protagonist would require time to climb up in a similar time period as Eiji Date, who claimed the JBC within the first year in his comeback, after his four years of inactivity and defended a few more until he came back to the world stage. There be a considerable gap of time between his comeback and world championship fight.

It seems clear that the current fight will be a catalyst for Ippo’s comeback, with Eiji Date stating earlier that a boxer needs passion and a strong fire in one’s heart. This could insinuate that Sendo’s fire will ignite Ippo’s. If Martinez “devours” Sendo as Stewart put it, the wildness factor might no longer be an unknown, an advantage having fought two opponents possessing such instincts back to back. Pouncing aggressively in the first round, will likely backfire on most fighters.

So it is back to refined technical experienced fighter like Eiji Date to neutralize and survive any deployed tactics.

There are things I want to note:

Team White Fang likely possesses the right combination to prepare the strongest game plan against him, between Alexander Volg Zangief and Dankichi Hama, to make the most of the fights that Eiji Date, Wally, and Takeshi Sendo have displayed multiple things to take away from that is applicable to most boxers:

- Disrupt Ricardo’s vision, taking away his first-rate ascertainment.

- Pressure adds tension, delaying reaction time.

- Ricardo cannot brace if his form is off balance like anyone else (unlike Ippo), which can be set up; it is less of a weakness and more of creating of your own opportunity.

So it will be up to a highly technical boxer that has the versatility to attack quite aggressively having high specs and box effectively in a chess match. Being able to make adjustments like Ricardo per minute. Volg executing every single thing that has been gathered, making the most competitive fight, revealing how to fight him head on, but likely lose either due to plot convenience or because, in terms of ability or experience, he couldn’t make up for it.

There is the factor that Ricardo Martinez is in his mid-thirties (34-36 years old), in the second half of his career, it wouldn’t be ridiculous if he moved up to Junior Lightweight. That the professional boxer he is based from, Finito Lopez, had also done such a thing after the consideration that he felt he underperformed, getting knocked down by Rosendo Alvarez, who could have won the fight. He opted to move up after his rematch to his second weight class at 33 years old and retired two years later.

Think Ricardo Martinez defeating the WBA Super Featherweight and then retiring a fourth person Ippo is close to, the IBF World Champion, would solidify his status as the final boss for Ippo Makunouchi, with a unification fight or Volg taking a unusual risk of vacating his belt McCallum did.

Ippo who is at the second half of his career, has physically matured and built up during his break, he take the WBA title at featherweight and use it to become an immediate challenger moving up.

Discussion What is Ippo referring to here? Is it his first fight with Sendo?

Post image

currently reading 596 and read this panel and I'm curious what Ippo is referring to. I can only think of the first fight with Sendo when Sendo started walking toward him and it threw him off his rhythm completely.. is that it or is it something else?

Also please no spoilers past 596 as I'm still trying to catch up thanks

Discussion SOME Hajime no Ippo characters and their respective lanterns

Thumbnail gallery
38 Upvotes

disclaimer: this is just my opinion based on my experience with the series and characters

the lanterns show was really good and with the surge in popularity of the lantern corps I felt it was appropriate to give some of the beloved characters a power ring.

Ippo - Green lantern

Ever since the beginning ippo has shown immense willpower to overcome any hurdles in his path, especially with conquering his fears. Fear of terrifying opponents, fear of letting down kamogawa, fear of losing his mother, fear of mashiba, and the fear of not figuring out what it means to be strong, countless times ippo has pushed forth against the odds and moved forwards. This lantern assignment is focused on pre retirement ippo as I believe post retirement ippo to be more of an blue lantern.

Mashiba - Redblue lantern

Driven by the loss of his parents and apathy of society, early mashiba was filled with rage. Always pushing others away and fighting like a monster, but that rage carried a purpose. He wanted to give a better life to Kumi and at some point he realized anger wasn't the way. He learned to calm down and focus more, no longer fighting with the rage of his past but fighting for the hope of a better future. I love you mashiba

Takamura - Green lantern

Takamura is still quite an enigma to me, where i still dont quite understand his character but based on his story and actions I think the green lantern suits him. His family has money, he could've lived a comfortable life but chose not to. He chose to pursue boxing even if it meant abandoning luxuries, experiencing grueling weight loss, fighting the world's toughest opponents. I still don't quite understand how he keeps going but his willpower is undisputed.

Miyata - Greenblue lantern

Miyata's main motivation in boxing is too prove to the world that his father's style of boxing isn't wrong. he carries a level of stubbornness that pushes him to lose weight and fight a certain way, this kind of stubbornness wouldn't be possible without willpower. Then theres the goal/hope of proving to the world that his father boxing is viable, hope of continuing the legacy and achieving greatness with it. Also the hope of meeting ippo in the ring someday but that's separate.

Discussion Prizefighter Kamogawa against the ranked fighters at 122.

Thumbnail gallery
108 Upvotes

Aware it is not fair condition that he fight above his natural weight class being at Bantamweight.

However, in the series that aren't recognizable fighters in that division as of yet. I'm so curious how a fully conditioned and prepared Kamogawa who has developed the Tekken at his last fight had done against better prepared boxers with modern training. Yet Kamogawa probably has to land a single clean blow through harsh training and conditioning to make it count and win the fight.

At the point he last fought, he wouldn't be able to fight affectively retiring after one performance, considering how much punishment he endure and his conditioned hands have a limit of the devastating power they dished out that his hands won't fully recover. But point is how this version of Kamogawa fair against each fighter, rather than if he be able to climb up, fight after a win or loss.

In his short record as a prizefighter, he defeated a crafty fighter like Dankichi, a talented fighter with sharp reflexes and speed in Nekota. Attributes wise, they should stand out, yet their skills post World War II is not on par with the pro boxer's of the rest of the world at the time. Then Kamogawa pushed himself to his limits in training and in his last professional match, fought Ralph Anderson who was a vicious sergeant with extensive background training drilled into his discipline, with a major size advantage being a natural Welterweight.

At Super Bantamweight, there were fighters such as:

Kenta Kobashi (Top 5 JBC ranked)

Ryuchi Hayami (Top 5 JBC ranked)

Kazuki Sanada (JBC National Champion)

Ryuji Nagumo (World Class Ranked)

Puerto Rican Champion. (Nameless so far)
