London to Guernsey - train and ferry or plane?

Thinking of going to Guernsey for a small holiday next summer - as far as I can tell getting the train from London to Portsmouth, then a ferry would be about the same price as flying. Which would you recommend?

Best seafood in Guernsey?

Visiting Jersey tomorrow, and then Guernsey on Friday to Sunday, and I'm looking for a nice restaurant that's not too pricy on Friday evening. What's your fav? Doesn't have to be seafood, but it seems a good choice considering the location!

Edit - We're now only going to Guernsey. I assumed that their were daily ferries between the islands. Boy was I wrong... Doh!

License plate collector

Hi everyone!

I’m a license plate collector from Slovakia, and I’m currently trying to expand my collection with plates from all around the world. I would love to have a plate from Guernsey!

I was just wondering, if there is anyone who has an unnecessary license plate lying around in a somewhere that they’d be willing to send me? Of course I can cover the shipping costs.

Thanks a lot :)

How does health insurance work here?

From the UK and I have fairly basic insurance from general and medical.

I need a treatment doing in the UK and booked in with a consultant and paid intending to claim back. When I submitted a claim they said I need a referral from my NHS doctor?

Obviously don’t have an NHS doctor but I assume my GP here is fine? Will they just write me a letter for my insurance?

Sorry if not the right place to ask but I’m very confused.

Island Pizza Takeaway safe for Celiacs?

Want to order this now but they said that 'any serious allergy is unsafe' (celiacs is not an allergy, and all allergies are serious).

They do offer gluten free bases.

Issues with Google Play region

I recently switched over to android so now have the joys of dealing with google play. Once I was able to set up my region to Guernsey, so many apps are unavailable for me to download due to being 'unavailable in my region' despite me having them on my iPhone.

Has anyone else experienced this? How did you get around it?

Ladies,

Where is the best place to get a haircut? It’s been a very very long time since I’ve had my hair done professionally and I have no idea where to go.

TIA

The year is 1985, and our old chum Oliver Reed has found himself on the wrong side of the law.The story involves rum, a sailor, enraged hotel staff and underpants. Here Ollie explains what happened that night and how he found himself in a police cell, and indeed, the 6:00 news.

Anyone else catch the sky at Port Soif? 40-minute sunset compressed into 1m40

Filmed just behind the café at Port Soif.

It looked like it was going to be a fairly ordinary sunset at first, then during the latter part the clouds started catching the light and the sky moved through gold, orange and pink.

This is roughly 40 minutes compressed into 1 minute 40 seconds - sped up more quickly at the start, then slowed down as the colour really began developing.

One of those Guernsey evenings where hanging around for another 20 minutes paid off!

Early flight taxis — how does everyone actually manage this?

Genuine question, not a moan. I've got an early Gatwick flight coming up and needed a taxi for around half five in the morning. Tried to sort it the night before on the taxi app and couldn't get it booked — too far ahead, apparently. Tried again first thing and it said I hadn't given enough notice.

Ended up ringing round a couple of firms instead, which worked fine in the end, but I clearly went about it the wrong way.

So, for those of you who fly early regularly, what do you actually do? Do you have a firm you always ring? Book days ahead? Just drive and park up? Get a lift?

And has anyone else had one not turn up when it mattered?

Importing Car to guernsey

I am importing a car from the UK to Guernsey and have set up my insurance etc, but obviously it won’t have a sleeve to hold the disc like guernsey cars do. Does anyone know where I can get one? I’m talking about the little pouches people have in the passenger side corner of their windscreen. Also any other tips or suggestions to do when bringing it over would be great (anything i may need to know that some people don’t know)

Mussels/Moules reccomendations

I’m only in Guernsey for one more week. I’ve had the ones at the Puffin and Oyster recently and they were fantastic!

Is there any other restaurant worth trying for mussels/moules before I go?

Aurigny compensation for flight delay?

No getting a clear answer on this and hearing different things.

Flight delayed from Gatwick to guernsey for 4+ hours. Can I get any money back? There’s the online form I started to complete but that looks like it’s only for any food/hotels etc.

Thanks!

My friend is sending me some clothes as I moved from Londond but I couldn't take everything with me. Some of them are designer tshirts which I had collected from last 5 years. I am just worried the customs will take them? I have receipts for some of them but not all of them as bought many years ago.

Please help!!

Andrada to Redevelop Branderg Tin Mine in Erongo for N$834 Million

Post image
3 Upvotes

Andrada Mining, which is a Guernsey-registered and Namibia-focused mining company, has secured approval from the Namibian Competition Commission for an investment deal of N$834 million to advance the redevelopment of the historic Brandberg West tin and tungsten mine in the Erongo Region.

The deal with London-based natural resources investor ACAM was first announced in January 2026 and is being carried out through its investment vehicle BWCAM. N$164 million has already been invested into Brandberg West for a 30% stake in the company holding the project, while a further N$654 million could increase BWCAM’s stake to 49% if agreed development milestones are met. A separate N$16.4 million was invested directly into Andrada Mining.

Brandberg West operated from the 1940s until around 1980 and is also known to contain copper. The mine eventually closed after experiencing financial losses, low ore grades, and weak commodity prices. Andrada is currently drilling the site and testing old mine waste to determine how much mineral material can be economically recovered, with further funding expected to support exploration, a modern mineral resource estimate, feasibility studies and planning for a potential processing plant.

How was this not prosecuted as drink driving???

"lOOk WhAt hE diD to thIs POsh cAr 🤪"

He was out on the piss, crashed the car, fled the scene, avoided police so he couldn't be breathalysed and has a previous conviction for drink driving. I think it's pretty obvious to anyone with a functioning brain that he was drunk.

And yet the prosecutor says, presumably post-lobotomy, "there was no suggestion that the defendant was over the prescribed alcohol limit at the time of the crash.".

One day trip ferry Guernsey

Hello Guernsey people :)

I am a Spaniard man who will visit with my wife your beautiful island by ferry from Saint Malo the next 24rd August.

We both are delighted to discover everything about Víctor Hugo Life, German Occupation history and obviously Normandic heritage.

On the other hand, I am coin collector and I will bring a handful of british pennies coins which I would like to change by Guernsey and (why not) Jersey coins. How I can make it succesfully? Or even another collector who wants to swap with me these coins by another coins.

Any piece of advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advanced and see you soon :)
