EPISODE DISCUSSION Season 23 Premiere! S23E1: Collide Live Discussion Post Spoiler

Welcome to season 23!!! As always, this discussion post will go live an hour prior to the episode official airtime. All spoilers are allowed for previous seasons, but if you obtained early access to the episode please don’t spoil it early. Please keep all discussion of the premiere to this post until Saturday, then separate posts are free game as long as the titles are nonspoilery.

EDIT: I prepped this post last week, and at that time I found information about a season break from Nov-March in multiples places. More recent articles do not reflect this, so it may not be accurate. I will update as further information is posted. For now we will consider it null and void.

RJ Decker is (bizarrely) doing quite well, so it seems Nick appearances will be limited. No word on how much Meredith we can expect.

Catch back up by checking out the discussion post for S22 finale Like a Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Original airdate: October 15th, 2026

Directed by: Debbie Allen, the wicked Catherine Avery we all love to hate

Episode summary: After a collision at Sea-Tac sends a surge of critically injured patients to Grey Sloan, the unveiling of its controversial new VIP floor is thrown into chaos as doctors race to save lives amid impossible choices.

Song title inspiration: Collide by Howie Day

Episode Trailer on YouTube

Skip ahead to next week’s episode Slippin’ and Slidin’.

Episode summary for next week: As Bailey adjusts to student life, she and Blue respond to a fraternity hazing mishap; Meredith juggles Boston and Seattle as she advocates for a young patient; Amelia and Toni support Jo.

EPISODE DISCUSSION Why wasn’t there another team to work on Bonnie?

• Upvotes

The couple impaled by the pole.
I didn’t understand why they didn’t wait for another team to arrive. When the airport discussion happened it was made clear that it was possible to wait a bit more for surgery, but not desired.
Tom was the first to crash when they removed her. To this day I think it’s uncertain that her death was imminent, had they worked on stabilising her as well.
Of course I am not a doctor so my wishes are probably dumbfounded , but I think the episode shows more of an administrative failure other than a medical tragedy.

Is it just me, or is Maggie becoming really annoying?

• Upvotes

I’m on Season 15, Episode 10, and I’m starting to get really annoyed with Maggie.

I never particularly loved her character, but I was fine with her. I didn’t have any major issues with her before. But lately, she seems to be making one bad decision after another, and the hypocrisy is starting to get on my nerves.

First, she told Meredith about Teddy. Meredith didn’t go around telling everyone about it. She simply talked to Teddy. But when Meredith told Maggie about Catherine, Maggie went and told Jackson, then Richard. Like, WHY? There was absolutely no need for her to tell them, especially when Catherine was already trying to tell Richard herself. It wasn’t Maggie’s secret to share in the first place.

And then there’s her relationship with Jackson. She barely communicates with him, keeps avoiding him whenever he wants to have an actual conversation, and just runs away instead of dealing with things. But the moment he goes on his journey and starts talking to other people, suddenly she gets jealous?

And when he actually tries to explain himself, she doesn't even listen. She just runs away AGAIN.

Girl, what do you actually want? You don't want to talk to him, you don't want to hear him out, but you also don't want him to move on with his life?

I used to be pretty neutral about Maggie, but these recent episodes are seriously testing my patience. It feels like she expects everyone else to handle things maturely while she keeps making impulsive decisions and avoiding difficult conversations herself.

DISCUSSION Bailey winning the Fox Foundation award

Did anyone else find this odd? It's a surgical innovation contest. It seemed weird to have all the nominees with amazing surgical innovation achievements be told that actually none of them will win the award. What Miranda has done for reproductive rights and health is amazing (but why wasn't Addison honoured too???), but I think it would have been even better if the foundation created a new award for furthering human rights in medicine, or something like that. I think a surgical innovation contest should honour the nominees by giving one of them the award.

What do you guys think?

SPOILERS Cristina and little Justin

Justin was my favorite patient for Cristina. He was the little boy who felt bad about getting a new heart because he knew it came from a child who passed away, unfortunately he overheard some nurses saying that so then he was disturbed by his mother pretending the heart was from Santa etc because he knew the truth. He even interpreted his mother praying for him to get a heart every day as her praying for a child to die so he found that disturbing too it was really sad.

But I loved Cristina's interactions with him, it's kind of summed up when Justin is saying he's going to run out of the OR because he doesn't want to get his new heart and Cristina is like "You can try but you won't get very far with that old heart" and Justin kind of reacts like 'true' 😂

It looks like the new season is supposed to be available on 10/16, but it’s past 12 pst and it’s not showing up for me :(

(For the record, I wasn’t up waiting for it. I’m up studying and remembered it was coming out soon so I searched to see when)

DISCUSSION I’m so confused about Bailey’s staph infection

Where did she get the staph infection and why were none of the other doctors carrying the staph infection if they were in direct contact with her? Maybe I am not understanding what staph is? Are some people just carriers of the staph bacteria permanently like HIV?

SPOILERS I hate Maggie

I know this is everybody’s take and I see it coming up all the time. Every time she comes on the screen or every time there is a situation she just pisses me off. I just finished the episode where it was after Derek died and Meredith leaves for Boston and is MIA for a year or so. Maggie feels like she’s been abandoned like seriously. She’s so annoying

Number 12

I think we can put the whole “number 12” reasoning on Webber’s shoulders. Who knows what happened at the hospital before season 1, but once Meredith stepped foot in the hospital, Webber lost his stronghold and started lightning up. He says Meredith with Shepard and allowed it, then appraised yang for telling on burke, her boyfriend. He let Meredith get away with so much, and when he did try to discipline her, others tried to protect her. Bailey having a baby affected her personally, but the way Webber stepped in any time (at this point) to care for or protect Meredith led to attendings treating her and her group of interns with such a light touch. Whatever (I’m not gonna name them all) Meredith’s effect on webber and his actions is all him. He spent his whole life at Seattle Grace and it failed, and honestly, it’s all his fault.

DISCUSSION Grey’s fans, if Mark and Lexie would’ve survived the plane, do you guys think they would’ve end up together?

Witjout being biased, do you guys actually think they would’ve ended up together if they were alive?
So as a huge Slexie stan, I really love their story and I wished they stayed alive but I really dont think they wouldve ultimately end up together. They broke up in like season 6 and then never spoke until the last 2 episodes of season 8 where Lexie confesses her love and Mark was dating the other girl (if I remember correctly), also a lot of people have said that they were 2 people searching for 2 different things and thats lowkey true.

My gf got seasons 1-7 free off marketplace! One thing we thought was quite odd was the season one box set says Season Son on the side. I thought they may of been pirated disc's but the internet tells me its a legit typo that happened.

Pretty cool!
