Svend Robinson endorses Emily Lowan & the BC Greens 💚

Svend Robinson spent more than 25 years as an NDP Member of Parliament fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, Indigenous rights, and the planet.

Today, for the first time ever, he’s endorsing a provincial candidate outside the NDP: Emily Lowan, BC Greens Leader and candidate in Saanich North and the Islands.

"Emily is fighting for Indigenous rights, for strong unions, for housing and healthcare as basic human rights, and above all, in this time of existential climate crisis, for a Green New Deal. That’s a vision I’m proud to support."

If you’ve always supported the NDP but can’t stand behind their broken promises anymore, you’re not alone, and there’s a place for you with the BC Greens.

Join us. Your vote counts Oct. 16-21st and Oct. 24.

Trevor Withers & Israel, 2026 Elections

Post image
25 Upvotes

Trevor Withers is running as a Conservative MLA for North Vancouver Lonsdale.

He also visited Israel in 2026, posting on his Instagram with the caption, “Israel 2026: Great country, even better people.”

Withers visited earlier this year (2026!!) during their on-going genocide against Palestine.

Not only has Withers supported an expansionist and genocidal regime, he has archived these photos because he knows Israel is disliked and unsupported by the general public. Withers knows his political support would decrease if his admiration for Israel was widely known. This is not the behaviour of an authentic and well-intended representative of the people.

Our MLAs should not visit and support nations that are ethnically cleansing a people.

Our MLAs should not visit nations committing apartheid.

Our MLAs should be transparent and not evasive.

Our MLA's focus should be here, not Israel.

Our MLAs should have love for all humans!!

Vote carefully everybody!!

⚡POLICY DROP: Climate Action.

Leader of the BC Greens and candidate for Saanich North and the Islands, Emily Lowan, today announced the BC Greens’ plan to put British Columbia back on track on climate. Under the plan, fossil fuel corporations would pay a fair share for the resources they take, B.C. would stop locking itself into decades of new fossil fuel infrastructure, and households would get help to cut their energy costs.

“Foreign mega-corporations are harvesting B.C.’s resources, yet paying scraps to British Columbians,” said Lowan. “Meanwhile, families are paying the price for the climate change these corporations create, through wildfire smoke, higher insurance bills, and heat waves that put lives at risk. Premier Eby has opened the door to massively increased extraction while British Columbians see a maximum of 14% of the profits. That’s billions of dollars a year that could go towards making life more affordable or healthcare more accessible. British Columbians deserve a better deal.”

The BC Greens will:

  • Treat the climate crisis like the emergency it is. We’ll bring in a climate action plan that meets the targets demanded by the climate emergency, with clear sector-by-sector milestones, annual public reporting, and real consequences when government falls behind.
  • Reform BC’s oil and gas royalty framework to achieve its original objective of collecting 50 per cent of net profits after production costs, with clear rules for allowable costs and public reporting on the royalties collected. For 2027/28, the Province currently forecasts approximately $1.14 billion in natural-gas royalties. We estimate that achieving the 50 per cent objective would generate approximately $4.09 billion — nearly $3 billion more in a single year.
  • End provincial subsidies, tax preferences and public financing that encourage the expansion of fossil-fuel production.
  • Require the oil and gas sector to reduce emissions in line with BC’s climate targets, with a binding sectoral emissions cap if existing regulations and industrial carbon pricing do not deliver the required reductions.
  • Oppose the Pacific Link pipeline.
  • Introduce a windfall profits tax on extraordinary corporate profits, including in the fossil-fuel sector.

⚡POLICY DROP: Economic Tourism!

Thumbnail

BC Green candidate for West Vancouver-Sea-Sky Jeremy Valeriote announced the BC Greens’ plan to grow tourism in ways that leave communities stronger, keep more economic benefits local, and protects the natural and cultural assets that draw people to British Columbia.

“People come to British Columbia for our mountains and coastlines, forests and wildlife, communities and cultures, and the recreation opportunities like we have in West Vancouver-Sea-to-Sky,” said Valeriote. “You can’t move a coastline or copy a mountain range. Tourism lets our communities build prosperity that lasts, without destroying the places it depends on. Our job is to protect the workers, businesses, and landscapes that make it possible.”

“That’s why the BC Greens will keep our parks maintained, year round, and create an Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Fund to build and improve trails, campsites, and other tourism draws across B.C., working with First Nations, communities and local organizations.”
“We need to increase opportunities for British Columbians and tourists alike to visit communities like this one. This riding is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in Canada, but for too many, it’s inaccessible. That’s why the BC Greens will make it easier to explore B.C. by making the Sea-to-Sky an early priority for new regional bus and passenger rail connections, while developing similar links across B.C.”

“This tourism plan puts B.C.’s economy, its workers, and its communities first, while expanding this critical sector to ensure our province can continue to welcome tens of millions of tourists every year.”

The BC Greens will:

  • Increase annual funding for BC Parks and Recreation Sites and Trails BC by 50 per cent, from $76 million to $114 million, to expand year-round access, improve maintenance and visitor services, and better manage growing use.
  • Create a $30 million annual Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Fund for five years to build and improve trails, campsites, day-use areas and other public recreation infrastructure across BC, working with First Nations, communities and local recreation organizations.
  • Create dedicated funding for workforce housing in tourism-dependent communities, supporting local governments and First Nations to secure land, service sites and build housing for year-round and seasonal workers.

⚡POLICY DROP: Fast, Free, Frequent Transit.

Thumbnail

“B.C.’s transit riders and workers have been left with instability, their funding up in the air, with the Premier able to whisk away a major revenue source by posturing in front of a gas station,” said Emily Lowan, leader of the BC Greens and candidate for Saanich North and the Islands. “By providing stable funding to deliver fast, frequent service, we’ll remove one of the biggest barriers communities face in delivering transit people can rely on. We’ll also provide free transit passes for youth and seniors, to ensure those who need access to transit most aren’t held back by the affordability crisis.”

Jeremy Valeriote, candidate for West Vancouver-Sea-to-Sky spoke on delivering transit in his riding specifically: “bringing transit to the Sea-to-Sky is a no-brainer. Constituents have been asking for years and it costs very little to get operational, but the provincial government has thrown up roadblock after roadblock. Even within regional governance that is aligned and focused on this issue, working with the BC NDP has made this impossible. The people of West Vancouver-Sea-to-Sky deserve a government that fights for them, and that’s what I’ll do back in the Legislature.”

The BC Greens also announced their plan to develop passenger rail and expand ferry services, to ensure the entire province is connected.
“B.C. has rail corridors, it has the capacity to run more ferries,” said Lowan. “Yet due to consistent delays and unsustainable funding, these essential services have been neglected. The BC Greens will make sure communities, workers, and families from across B.C. can stay connected, through supporting a future for our rail corridors, building and maintaining ferries locally, and supporting the union workers we’ll need to connect B.C.”

The BC Greens will:

  • On transit:
    • Implement free, fast, frequent public transit, starting with making transit fast and frequent. This will prioritize doubling the number of buses on the roads within the first term. We will approach free transit in a phased approach, starting with youth aged under 25 and for seniors 65 and over. We will build onto free transit once infrastructure improvements are made, funding stabilizes, and fast, frequent transit is established.
    • Have buses on the roads in the Sea-to-Sky within the first year.
  • On ferries:
    • Work with the Federal Government to increase funding, and achieve parity with Atlantic Canada. We will review the governance model and long-term funding arrangements as part of this work.
    • Expand infrastructure at terminals and docks, including planning for electric ferries.
    • Build and maintain ships locally, to boost the local economy and provide good union work
  • On rail:
    • Provide support to the BC Rail Corridor Alliance, including financial support for an engineering assessment, economic study, and operations funding.
    • Protect the rail corridor as an integrated public transportation asset while opportunities for active transportation, recreation and tourism are evaluated.
    • Work with First Nations and the Island Corridor Foundation to determine next steps for Vancouver Island rail.

⚡ POLICY DROP: Fully Funded Schools!

“Every parent in this province knows the feeling of sending their kid off in the morning and hoping that their child gets all the support they need,” said Lowan. “But too many families are getting the call that their child can’t stay the full day because there’s no education assistant today.

This is a fundamental failure of successive governments to deliver the excellence in education our children deserve.” B.C. ranks second to last among Canadian provinces in per-pupil funding. School districts received approximately $994.8M for inclusive education but needed an additional $316.8M to cover actual costs—a shortfall that has persisted for at least 18 years.

“No child should have to try to learn when they’re hungry. No child should struggle without a trusted counsellor to talk to. We know that when students have the support they need, they can actually learn and thrive, but this government is failing our children,” said Lowan. “We’ll close the inclusive education funding gap, put a counsellor within reach of every student, and make sure every child starts the day with a healthy meal and the supplies they need to learn.”

The BC Greens will:
●   Close the inclusive education funding gap with a stable, needs-based funding model for school districts.
●   Increase the counsellor-to-student ratio to one counsellor for every 250 students.
●   Deliver a universal school food program and a school supplies program, so every student gets fed and has what they need to learn.
●   Build a capital plan to ensure school buildings meet safety, functionality and climate resilience standards.

⚡POLICY DROP: Child Disability Support.

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

The BC Greens announced today their statement on changes to Children and Youth with Support Systems Needs and children with austim.

“We have deep concerns over the new Children and Youth with Support Needs system. While we are encouraged to see supports extended to those who’ve been underserved and underfunded for too long, this model removes a support system before fully developing a new one, lacks consultation and a consideration of lived experience in its development, and is fundamentally outdated and reactionary.

The new application process requires parents and families to navigate a laborious and confusing new route to funding, without understanding who is going to receive the sensitive information they are providing and what resources, if any, they will receive.

Numerous families and disability advocacy groups have repeatedly voiced their opposition to this change, yet are met with claims that consultation has been extensive, without evidence. The CYSN criteria for the Disability Benefit sets an unreasonably high and deficit-focused threshold that excludes too many who need support.

Instead, the BC Greens would:
1)  Convene a working group consisting of a broad range of disability community representation to co-design a provincial disability strategy that supports ALL families within the disability community.
2)  Centre and build strong partnerships with children, youth, parents, and families with disabilities to ensure any disability support framework is developed to meet each life stage.
4)  Work in partnership with Indigenous families to create dedicated and culturally-responsive approaches and funding models to meet the unique and diverse circumstances of rural and remote communities and Indigenous First Nations.
3)  Ensure consistency and government transparency by aligning the commitments made in the Child and Youth Well Being Action Plan with Child and Youth Disability Funding.”

Great Job Emily :)

I've said on this and other subs before that I am very happy with the leadership of Emily Lowan.

I am usually a NDP supporter and I was happy with some of the work David Eby/BCNDP did in regards to housing: The taking on NIMBY city councils/mayors to get zoning & density reform for more affordability & accessibility. The updating code in regards to single-stair egress. The making sure Airbnb and other things like it got on the long-term rental and ownership market. The taking on of vacant investment housing because housing is meant to be lived in not kept empty as a speculative financial commodity.

All that was good but it all kind of started becoming more and more milquetoast...

Someone has to hold Eby and the BCNDP to account and it looks like the BC Greens are doing that not just on the Environment but on the Labour Movement and other sides as well.

One of the nice things about progressive/leftist politics is not being in a cult like loyal echo chamber. It's important that substantive criticisms take place to broaden, deepen, and sharpen ways forward for the working class and most vulnerable.

Also I am really happy that Lowan has been talking about defending what Old-Growth Forest we have left in British Columbia! People don't realize that when that is gone it is not just replaced by planting new trees. The eco-system doesn't work that way.

BC Greens leader Emily Lowan accuses David Eby of “co-opt[ing] the language of the left” then failing to follow through on policy: “I sat across the table from this man just months ago and put forward our proposal to tax extreme wealth — and he flatly refused.”

A wealth tax (not an income tax) on BC’s richest 2500 households (wealth over 50 million) can pave the way for us to rein in our deficit, pay for universal childcare, free transit, affordable housing and more. It’s time BC’s wealthiest 0.1% paid their fair share. Believe in better - vote BC green. #electionbc #bcgreens #wealthtax
