When Humanz dropped in 2017, I really didn’t fuck with it like that. I liked “Let Me Out” when it released as a single, and I was hyped since this was my first new Gorillaz album after discovering them.
At the time, I was still a relatively new fan. I only knew a handful of songs and vaguely understood the lore. I guess it hadn’t fully clicked that Gorillaz was more than just 2-D singing lol. So when I realized how feature-heavy the album was, it immediately threw me off.
The only songs I really kept in rotation were “Let Me Out,” “The Apprentice,” “Strobelite”, and “Busted and Blue,” with the latter becoming one of my all-time favorite Gorillaz songs.
Fast-forward eight years, and I bought Humanz on vinyl to complete my collection. I wasn’t even planning on playing it, but figured I’d give it another shot. And man, was I pleasantly surprised.
Once I understood the message behind the album and stopped expecting a traditional Gorillaz project, it finally clicked. It’s flawed, sure, but it’s also fun, introspective, and full of bangers. “Submission” and “Hallelujah Money” are my new favorites. Hell, I used to HATE “She’s My Collar,” and”Sex murder party” now I fuck with them heavy lol.
Humanz has officially become a guilty pleasure of mine. I’ve even grown to appreciate the cover art, which I’d honestly consider one of their best. I love how it contrasts with Demon Days, almost like a modern reflection of the same concept, just with a completely different atmosphere.🧐🎩
If you still dislike the album, I’d recommend giving the Deluxe Edition another listen. Those extra tracks really elevate the experience.
I’m even tempted to revisit The Fall, although I seriously doubt that’ll change my mind. 😂
Side note: I currently own the standard edition on vinyl. If anyone knows where I can find the Deluxe Edition on vinyl, I’d REALLY appreciate it lol.

Almost made him eat the toast with the ear, but I erased it lol

I found this image the other day and thought it would make a great tattoo. Be brutally honest will this look good as a tattoo?

Staff was kinda confused on what the “exclusive” merch was. To my understanding it was the hoodie and shirt with city name on the back. Think this tote was an exclusive as well, hadn’t seen it online at other merch reports. Still cool!

heres a little compilation of shots i got from the floor of the mountain tour! it was very cool seeing the music vids on what was basically an imax screen with the live band in front. i naturally wanted capture every second, but had to just stay in the moment and enjoy it! bucket list show right here!!

y

I've listened to this song about 10 times a day for the past two weeks, and I love this song. I found yesterday it's one of the most hated Gorillaz songs...what?

Wasn't able to get any merch in Toronto because of the insane lines but I guess a set list and pick from Jeff is pretty cool 😉

I just came across this song and I thought it was a deep-cut Gorillaz track until I saw who it was. Does anyone know if Damon was influenced by The Beach Boys, or is this just a weird coincidence of similar sounds? I just can't see how he wouldn't drawn inspiration for the sound of the Gorillaz from a track like this. Not too mention the connection to nature themes.

The door was hard to do lol

mine Gotta be

y’all tell me yours in the comments, I’m curious to hear about other fan’s faves, also please don’t flame me for liking the popular songs they’re popular for a good reason guys 😭

I've been painting this off and on for the better part of 3 years and finally feel comfortable posting it lmao so here you go. See how many references you can spot!

Hey! Long time lurker on this subreddit. A bit over half a year ago we made a retrospective on Gorillaz where we wanted to praise what made the band so unique with its focus towards collaboration. Our conclusion was that the beauty of a Gorillaz album is the way each guest influenced the direction of the music in a direct way, rather than just being a feature.

I've been really happy with the Mountain for this reason. It's truly its own masterpiece, and struck a cord with me for being so far outside of my typical tastes that it made me realize why I loved the band the way I do.

Do you feel like Gorillaz is defined by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett? Or is it defined by the artists who add their own input each album?

yes i put him in animal hospital, so what?

Anyone know the location of where the pop up truck will be for the concert in Dallas this weekend? Any help would be greatly appreciated 👏🏻.

If anyone is going to the Austin or Fort Worth Texas show this week and could help me get the patch set and sticker sheet (both sold out at the show i went to) I would really appreciate it! not sure how to get it from you but I could pay for shipping, or ill be in Texas next month.

OR if anyone wants to just sell the Noodle patch i would be willing to buy just that from anyone. thanks!!

Something I have noticed recently, maybe with the younger gen of fans (sorry guys) is that Murdoc is being made out to be just misunderstood 😅

A reminder that having a rough childhood doesn't excuse your actions as an adult. He is a a general arrogant, misogynistic, rude, abusive rogue which we love because of his charm and wit but he is still a bad guy.

He is also a massive liar to the point where you cannot tell if he is telling the truth or not. So you cannot trust everything he has said in the Rise of the Ogre

He had not changed THAT much either and still treated 2D like a slave in Cracker Island. He is just abit calmer then he used to be.

That one makeup palette trend but with cupcakes

I'm finally back! I got my account back after getting hacked, please guys stay safe

Hi! This is a pretty niche question so i'm not sure if anyone'd know, but I've always been curious how they got the windlike synth sound effects (most prominent in the intro of and throughout 68 State and around 1:14 during the chorus of Sound Check (Gravity). I'm sure it's been used in other Demon Days-era tracks as well though, these are just the ones that come to mind.

Custom synth patch? Keyboard preset? Sampled from another source? I'd love to try sampling it or recreating it to toy with it but have no idea where to start. Thanks.

I just had to end a 5 year friendship and I'm really sad. Could y'all just comment pictures of Murdoc? I need some cheering up 😭

Joe and Damon out here with their recent music making me shed a tear man 😭🎶

Thought both tracks had the same emotional messaging of missing someone/saying goodbye so made a fun blend of them together.
Also in case anyone who doesn't know, Joe Goddard is one of the members of Hot Chip and his solo stuff is very good!

It's all for fun anyway so hope you folks enjoy!

So today I went to the pop up truck for Austin, and I was disappointed to find out there wasn’t anything for Little Simz or Deltron 3030.

Obviously I’m going to get some Gorillaz merch but I love both Simz and Deltron 3030 probably as much as Gorillaz so I’m wondering if they’ll be selling their merch at the actually concert maybe?
