Day 19 - I'll Finish This Book Later
youtube.comI had this draft all primed and ready for the next day. I was on a roll, in a flow, and then Reddit hit me with an automated ban for 3 days lol. Appealed it right away and then today (the day the ban ended) they got back to me and said "Sorry about that, you didn't violate any rules or terms. your ban has been lifted". loool. anyway, I'm back.
This song reads like a love letter to the act of writing itself. The pain of it or confrontational aspect. The reflective state it can put you in. or the ugliness of it all. Looking yourself right in the eye as you're sitting for a haircut. Or simply sinking into emotions you might not normally toil over.
We're often trapped in our "doom scrolling" that it's easy to lock away unpleasant feelings or ugly truths we'd rather not face. And we often forget! Oh, how we forget feelings and thoughts we have in the moment. Timestamps exist in a digital space of conversations and comments and critiques and judgements. Throw-away accounts used to present ourselves to faceless others. Frequent type/erase/type/erase/type/erase until we find the perfect thing to say. whoosh. off into the ether. until some stupid dopamine-inducing reminder comes in that "xo_bigdawg420_ox" liked your comment or that Sarah left a *kissy face* emoji as a reply. It's funny how much time people will commit to this but refuse to read a book haha. Dedicating all this time to leaving aimless words in a space that will not last.
I'm on a tangent again. Sometimes I think I'm focused on the thought at hand and my brain plays six degrees to some other thought that's semi-related.
The lyrics here present poetry and words as a way to escape it all or preserve memories. A way to process anger and negativity or even reconnect with your youth. Revisiting memories from childhood with an aged mind can give vastly different perspectives.
Dust the page.
Take your time.
This part specifically feels like the central message of it all:
Keep writing. Don't rush it. Revisit it if you need to. Let the words preserve the moments and the parts of you that might otherwise fade away. Not unlike old photographs. And it doesn't have to be award-winning. It doesn't have to be perfect. Just simply putting words to page is enough.
That's "We Will All Be Gone" done. Tomorrow we move on to their third album "Raised in a Doomsday Cult".
Lyrics//
Dive into the land of paper cuts and ink-stained cufflinks
These words open doors
Keep a record of your receipts
To remind you of the joy of the sunset escape
The poem will bring you down
Your hatreds float away like butterflies
And maybe you'll read this tonight
Gain credence through what you'll recite
Dust the page often
Take your time
Though it seems a constant duel
When you feed yourself the words that open up the child in you
Grab the bourbon from the shelf
This moment needs to be cemented, cemented
The poem will bring you down
Your hatreds float away like butterflies
And maybe you'll read this tonight
Gain credence through what you'll recite
And maybe you'll read this tonight
Dust the page often
Take your time
