Is offering a free service to serve your community a bad thing?

We want to serve the community by pressure washing houses for free. Every time I bring it up, people get suspicious. "Free" seems to make everyone assume there's a catch.

Do we need to put a minimal pricing??

So I'm asking Austin: is offering something for free a bad thing? Would you trust it? What would make you say yes?

Any local ARMY? Sharetea at Wolf Ranch is doing a free Jimin birthday cupsleeve event this weekend (Oct 17–18)

Post image

Heads up for any BTS fans around Georgetown. Sharetea in Wolf Ranch is hosting a Jimin birthday cupsleeve party this Saturday and Sunday (Oct 17–18), all day during store hours.

Every order comes with a free Jimin cupsleeve, and orders over $12.99 get a free keychain (1 per order, while supplies last). They're also having some vendors and free activities in store.

Cupsleeve events are usually an Austin thing, so it's nice to have one up here. Anyone else planning to go?

Any fellow Georgetown locals looking to make some new friends?

Hey, Gtown neighbors!

I'm a 41-year-old retired dad of two awesome (but occasionally exhausting) kiddos, and I'm hoping to find some local folks interested in getting together for hikes, park outings, board game nights, or really just about anything that gets us out of the house.

I'm a bit of a nerd and enjoy just about every kind of game, whether it's digital or good old-fashioned tabletop. I've got a pretty extensive Steam library, but now that both kids are in school, I've discovered there's only so much gaming I can do before the cabin fever starts setting in. 😂

I've also got a small collection of board games, including Talisman, which I absolutely love. Unfortunately, finding people willing to dedicate several hours to a fantasy adventure involving questionable decisions, unpredictable dice rolls, and the occasional betrayal has proven surprisingly difficult!

Being retired at 41 is a bit of an odd situation socially. Most people my age are understandably busy with work, and making new friends as an adult seems to require considerably more effort than it did when we were kids. Who knew? 😂

Anyway, I'm really just hoping to meet some good people, build a few genuine friendships, and find some excuses to get out.

I have started getting out of the house at least once a week for lunches down on the square and wouldn't mind making that more of a group event rather than solo adventures.

If any of that sounds like your kind of shenanigans, feel free to comment or shoot me a DM. I'm always happy to meet new people!

Lake Georgetown Swimming

I’m trying to figure out where to go to practice my swimming. I do t want to have to pay the rec center to access the pool. Is there somewhere I can park close to the lake and then swim the lake? I need to practice 1/2 mile swims and stay close to the bank. Thanks for any advice.

This is a pretty easy and short hike. No strollers will be able to go on the trail. There are also no restrooms. Leashed dogs are welcome. There is also no parking lot, so please park along Diamondback Dr, highlighted in red. The hiking trail is highlighted in yellow.

Thai milk tea is #3 on our sales list and I still can't predict who's going to order it

Post image
0 Upvotes

Sharetea owner in Georgetown, TX — flagging the bias.

Thai milk tea is the only thing we sell that isn't from the Taiwanese tradition, and it's our #3 seller. What I can't work out is the customer profile. It isn't the people who order sweet drinks, it isn't the tea purists, it isn't correlated with anything I can see.

My working theory is that it's almost entirely people who already know it from Thai restaurants and are happy to find it somewhere else. But that's a guess.

For anyone who orders Thai tea at a boba shop: is that you — you knew it from somewhere else first? Or did you discover it on a boba menu?

And for shop folks: do you use a pre-mix or build it yourself? I'm curious how much variation there is out there, because the Thai tea I get at different places is wildly inconsistent.

Are there any good burgers around here

I’m talking a total surface crust/sear, dripping grease, preferably at a bar, and unpretentious or overdone/overdressed. I don’t want Five Guys, I don’t want Culver’s, or Hat Creek. I want a cheap, satisfying, bar style burger. Doesn’t have to be a smash burger either.

Weekly Saturday Siren at 11a?

Can anyone explain what the loud alarm / siren is going off at 11 every Saturday? Wood Ranch / DB wood area. It only goes off once. Our baby’s nap time is around 11 and we are always worried it will wake him up!

I know there is supposed to be an emergency alert system test on the FIRST Saturday of every month and that one is significantly louder & goes off twice.
