Bruh that won’t even get you halfway through Texas

A few years ago, some friends and I did a road trip from Halifax to Montreal. The trip was 12 hours.Out of curiosity, I tried to compare the distance to Texas. If you left El Paso heading east, 12 hours later, you're still in Texas.

I drove from El Paso to Texarkana in a single day once. Didn’t make it to my hotel until like 2 in the morning.

You can drive 8 hours and stay in Wisconsin the whole time too.

I used to live in the very SW part of Wisconsin and go camping each summer about an hour south of Lake Superior. It took 8 hours to drive to our camping spot. So from SW to NW it takes about 9 hours to go through Wisconsin. And that’s not even the biggest Midwest state

Same with Michigan.

I took a road trip from Los Angeles to Galveston once. It took about the same amount of time to get from LA to El Paso as it did to get from El Paso to Galveston.

Fun fact: if you take the width of Texas and pivot it out from El Paso towards LA, the line extends about 100 miles out into the Pacific.

Texas is huge.

El Paso is closer to San Diego than Houston.

Hell, the Texas top hat has a 10 hour route

5

u/Corwin_of_Amber3 14h ago

Minneapolis to Chicago is a 7-8 ish hour drive

9

u/PeskyBirb666 12h ago

South Minnesota to Northmost Minnesota

3

u/cassandra2028 12h ago

where people live Minnesota to where people fish and have cabins Minnesota. I'm not driving to Illinois and the original post is like hardly any Iowa to start with, a small amount of Wisconsin because thats where the fields were. Enough of Illinois to get around a lake, even less Indianna and then the southern part of michigan because that's where the high way is. it is weird. Meanwhile he picked one literal end of Germany to the other one. People are weird.

Cherry picking state lines vs the actual state, how many countries can you visit from the border of Germany?

7

u/the_ballmer_peak 12h ago

The whole joke is that this is cherry-picked to invert a common comparison

lol it’s just a joke chill

New Mexico is larger than the entire UK and we are only the 5th largest state.

1

u/soupseasonbestseason 14h ago

and we can make it from top to bottom in 6 hours...

1

u/NovelLandscape7862 14h ago

Your point being? We are one state, not a whole country lol

2

u/soupseasonbestseason 14h ago

i was pointing out a cool fact?

1

u/NovelLandscape7862 14h ago

That was not clear lol the ellipsis was a confusing addition.

1

u/KereruBod 9h ago

His ellipses did make it weird….

1

u/NovelLandscape7862 8h ago

Ellipses are often used to convey tone…

1

u/KereruBod 4h ago

If you say so……..

So I'm calling this post bullshit because they're comparing apples to oranges.

Midwesterners drive for 6 hours and are still in the USA. They could drive for 18 hours and still be in the USA.

So the German drove 6 hours and was still in Germany. Big fucking deal. That drive through Germany took you through like 8 states though to the 6 in the US.

And that 6 hour drive through Germany is almost the entire run of the longest length of the country.

The parts of the USA covered in that 6 hours isn't even the big states

This. Also, the east coast is has WAY more states compared to the west coast. To drive from San Ysidro, CA to Blaine, WA is only 3 states and is about 24 hours of driving, without sleep, and depending on traffic, potty breaks and how many fuel stops you have. Realistically, it would take a couple of days to make the trip. Alternatively taking i95 from Miami to Canada takes you through 15 states+ DC and would also take a couple of days reasonably

11

u/pickled-platypus 17h ago

Regardless of states, 8 hours still barely gets you much distance through the country.

10

u/Sheep_Actual 15h ago

Or California, or Texas, Alaska....

12

u/Nynjafox 15h ago

9.5 hours to go from Detroit to Copper Harbor in Michigan.

3

u/TeamFoulmouth 15h ago

11-12hrs from an Ohio bordering city

2

u/Schmaron 14h ago

I was envious of the Wisconsinites that only drove 6 hours compared to my 10 for Trailsfest.

3

u/OrganizationActive63 14h ago

Or Virginia - from the DC region to the tip of VA, NC, TN

5

u/No-Willingness7499 15h ago

technically they are "Still in the USA"

9

u/snozzberrypatch 14h ago

Germany has states too. How many can you drive through in 8 hours?

Also, I'm pretty sure it would be trivial to find an 8-hour driving route through Europe that goes through 8 countries.

8

u/Calvin4967 21h ago

"Well, well, well. How the turntables..."

3

u/Darth_Bane_1032 15h ago

Texan drives 12 hrs, still in Texas

3

u/ReverendLoki 14h ago

Carson City, CA to San Diego, CA: 14H 21M
Texline, TX to South Padre Island, TX: 13H 55M

3

u/MrBingly 13h ago

Factually correct: You can drive for 8 hours and never leave Rhode Island.

You might piss off the neighbors driving down their street 500 times, but you can do it.

5

u/allthepoutine 16h ago

Look where it’s cross posted from before getting upset or annoyed.

0

u/Schmaron 14h ago

NO! I will not accept that this is a joke. Let me be mad 🤣

3

u/KaleidoscopeRed 13h ago

Australia enters the chat

8 hours and you’re still in the same state 😂

2

u/RoyalMaidsForLife 🦀Maryland is a Cult🦀 14h ago

Or you can hit 11 states along the eastern seaboard in 8 hours if traffic on I-95 behaves, leaving from Kittery, Maine...

ME- NH- MA- RI- CT- NY- NJ- PA- DE- MD- VA

2

u/Schmaron 14h ago

Not true. I’ve driven 10 hours in Michigan alone. Grand Rapids to Copper Harbor.

1

u/Zoujianna 13h ago

Michiganian driving 10 hours / 630 miles / 1,010 km: still in Michigan (Erie to Copper Harbor).

1

u/givemesomespock 12h ago

If I drive for 8 hours in Michigan, I’m still in Michigan

1

u/zmurds40 12h ago

8 hours won’t get you 3/4 across Montana, halfway across Texas, halfway up Cali, or 1/4 up Alaska.

1

u/joeymittens 5h ago

“Still in the USA” there I fixed it for you

1

u/usernamesaconspiracy 4h ago

Detroit to Cooper Harbor Michigan is like 20 hours. Same state. The country takes over 30 hours of straight driving to cross

1

u/NetworkEcstatic 4h ago

Northern most point to the most southern point in Illinois is about 8 hours.

1

u/shrederofthered 3h ago

What's the point of the OP's post? It's also truly factual to drive 2 hours and go thru 3 European countries - France, Switzerland, and Italy. Or France, Monaco, and Italy.
