Reading David Copperfield

Not sure if I'll witness any Wolfe Parallels like with Great Expectations, but Dickens is my second favorite writer next to Wolfe. Also did anyone else get a Shirley Jackson vibe reading Peace? Weir's aunt and all those suitors felt so Jacksonian to me

I get Shirley Jackson vibes all the dang time.

I think the books that have most reminded me of Peace specifically are Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo, and Dom Casmurro and Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas by Machado de Assis. There’s lots of We Have Always Lived In The Castle all over Wolfe’s first-person narrators too though, for sure

I read Demon Copperhead last year and that shit banged; I think I noticed some Dickens allusions there.

There's a story called Our Neighbor by David Copperfield in Endangered Species.

About the suitors, Wolfe said his mother was a Southern belle. He said his childhood was basically Tennessee Williams.

Also Faulkner is referenced:

He was assigned to Belhaven, North Carolina, where my mother had grown up in a family that was right out of a Faulkner novel;
