(M31 from Italy)
âHi everyone! I am planning to move to Geneva in the coming months, and I would love to get some insights from locals or expats who made a similar transition.
âA bit about my background:
âI have a background in Mechanical & Management Engineering (with experience in supply chain, quality engineering, supplier recovery/claims, and industrial processes).
âLanguage situation: My English is strong (C1), but my French is currently at a B1 level and I am actively taking daily lessons to improve it quickly.
âI have a few specific questions for the Geneva area:
âThe French language barrier: Is a B1 level (in fast daily improvement) an absolute roadblock in the Geneva industrial/manufacturing sector, or can I leverage English for multinational/global roles while using French for day-to-day operations?
âTarget Hubs & Industries: I am strictly looking around the Geneva canton (focusing on industrial areas like Plan-les-Ouates, Meyrin, and Satigny). Besides luxury watchmaking (Rolex, Patek Philippe) and precision engineering (LEM, Lemo, GF Machining Solutions), are there other sectors or mid-sized companies I should look into?
âApplication Strategy: Should I rely more on local job portals like Jobup.ch and LinkedIn, direct applications, or local recruitment agencies (like Manpower Industry or Adecco Geneva) for a smooth transition?
âAny advice on the job hunt, housing realities, or general integration in Geneva would be hugely appreciated. Thanks a lot!
