I really like games where you constantly get to "upgrade" stuff and the upgrades feel impactful. That's my favorite thing in gaming! No idle games though xD. Any suggestions? Thank you :)

Looking for games that involve building a community, or bringing life/people back to an empty town or settlement

I hope this isn't too specific but I figure that's what this sub is for lol

It doesn't need to be the WHOLE game, and in fact I'm not a huge fan of city/town builders.
I'm talking something like Hollow Knight, that involves meeting people and slowly growing a little town (absolutely not the part of the game that people focus on, but it's something that I love).

Hollow Knight is the first example that came up because the NPCs have so much character, but a few other examples are:

Fallout 4, Cult of the Lamb (though I'd prefer the NPCs to have a bit more personality), Terraria, Animal Crossing, Amber Isle, Cozy Grove

Doesn't necessarily need to be a "cozy" game either, just something where you create a settlement/community

I want a game where I feel like a biologist studying undocumented creatures

Not really sure if such a game exists but I wanna study things in a lab. Document their behavior, interspecies interactions, unique abilities maybe experiment on them.

It doesn't have to be only animals, it can be viruses, bacteria, objects. Whatever really as long as the observation and experimentation aspect is present.

Never played any Tycoon/Simulator game. Which ones should i try out?

Looking for tycoon/simulator game recommendations. I have seen some games which have piqued my interest in this genre like- cities skylines 2 , transport fever 3, planet zoo 2 , one of the farming simulator games.

Should i try one of these games ? I am open too more recommendations too.

Well i have also played Powerwash simulator but i personally consider it more cozy and 'shut your brain' type game. Not looking for these types if possible

I want a game with turn based combat

Platform - PC (Steam)

I'm searching for a game, preferably 2d or top-down world, with pretty graphics and a good story
And above all, combat similar to turn-based RPG-style combat
i.e

Omori
In Stars and Time
Look Outside
Darkest Dungeon (loosely)
Welcome to Elderfield (loosely, doesn't have teams or allies)
Warrior Cats: the game (not the upcoming one, instead the old fan-made one, this one scratched the combat itch most of all of these)

I know most of these are darker or horror-themed, but suggestions do not have to have a horror theme

i like games where you level up and get new gear to improve your stats, but cant seem to find one that scratches the 'itch' i have for this type of game.

Looking for fantasy games that make me slow down and "smell the flowers"

No Elder scrolls, thank you. Gave it a fair chance, not for me and not the kind of game I look for. Sadly same goes for many open world games or ones with extremely huge but empty maps.

Genre or graphics don't matter, execution and artistic vision does. If your recommendation is an obscure early 2000s title I'll jump on the opportunity to discover it. I'd never call low poly or pixel graphics bad, it has a charm and some old games look realy beautyful even by today's standards cause the artists clearly knew what they were doing. 3 games I love, Lunacid, Blasphemous and Blasphemous 2 intentionally went for retro graphics and its suits them extremely well.

Little bit about my preferances gameplay wise, I like games that actually let me or encourage me to slow down, apreciate the details, read some lore, do side content. There was a time before AI slop taking over when I realy enjoyed hidden object games, even if they were generic fantasy showelware. It was my spiritual comfort food. I also realy loved Witcher 3 and Elden ring, both of them are expansive open worlds but Witcher's world feels very alive, its cities and people feel real, I love just exploring it it doesn't feel like just going from A to B or a hectic search for another thing to do. Elden ring, but especially SOTE made me slow down to a snail's pace, its often devoid of npcs or fights, but in my eyes its never empty, taking in the often dream like scenery is worthwhile content in my eyes. I could also gush over other FS games, especially DS3, I spent so much more time soaking in the atmosphere than advancing towards anything cause its just such a cozy dark world.

I'm eyeing with Baldur's gate 3 at the moment, excited for Queen's domain, and patiently waiting for Lords of the fallen 2,ff14 evercold and Spyro a realm beyond.

Please suggest me anything you think would help me to slow down, immerse myself in something new

RPG Open-worlds like The Witcher 3

Hello!

I recently got a new gaming laptop and really want to test how far it can go, and how good a game can look.

I recently revisited The Witcher 3 (especially after its remastered version) and Red Dead Redemption 2 just to look at it, and both were absolutely gorgeous, and those are two of my favorite games ever. I also recently played Cyberpunk 2077 and I was also just as hooked.

What are any AAA RPG open-world games that I could try out, that also has a very compelling narrative (although the AAA isn't as strict)?

I know, tough criteria, but I do think they're all out there.

I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed 2, and although I am liking the story so far, I kinda want something that pushes this new laptop even more.

Thank you dear Subreddit

Looking for deep lore games

As the title suggests, first of all, sorry for my bad English. I'm looking for games where, beyond the main story, the world has a lot of history and lore, like in The Witcher or The Elder Scrolls games.

Need something to tide me over until Fable

I’m a huge fan of action/adventure RPGs like fable, mass effect, starfield, cyberpunk, Skyrim even baldurs gate, dragon age, pathfinder but I’ve already played these and need something new.
Really just looking for something where I can create a character, my choices matter and I have romance options without a huge learning curve( ie pathfinder/baldurs gate) that can be played in first or third person.

Booting up greedfall right now but the reviews don’t look promising. Just trying to scratch the itch anywhere I can lol

Also haven’t really had the patience to dive into KCD but I probably should.

Thanks!

Looking an open world game. Dragons Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, Control Resonant or Crimson Desert?

Trying to pick out a game to ask for Christmas and have narrowed it down to these three.

I like open world action RPGS so all fit my preferences but from what I can tell the strengths are:

Control Resonant: Best story telling/plot of the three with most creative visuals and environments.

Dragons Dogma: Biggest emphasis on big monster encounters and boss fights.

Crimson Desert: Sheer variety and quantity of things to do.

I also have a base PS5 so let know about anything to do with performance I should know about

Indie games with stylized "bad" graphics, similar to FlyKnight or Deep Dish Dungeon?

I played FlyKnight back when it first released and it left the sweetest taste on me. I adored the stylized graphics and the gameplay was incredibly fun but the game was just too short. Looking for games preferably with a similar "bad graphics" style, and preferably a dungeon crawler or a survival game.

I'm currently looking at Deep Dish Dungeon which just released, however it looks like it has some serious issues right now so i'll wait until they're fixed.

I'm also looking to get Lunacid soon, it seems like a great game.

Also looking forward for Ignite the Depths's release.

Looking for a coming-of-age game about a group of teenagers facing something supernatural

I'm looking for a story-driven game about a group of teenagers or young adults dealing with something supernatural, mysterious, or unsettling.

I'm really into that coming-of-age vibe where friendship, relationships, and growing up are just as important as the supernatural mystery itself.

Title: Looking for a pixel art game that will genuinely leave a lasting impression on me.

I'm looking for a pixel art game with great gameplay, but more importantly, something that will stick with me long after I finish it.

It could be because of its characters, its worldbuilding, its art direction, its atmosphere, its story, or simply because the gameplay is so good that I can't stop thinking about it.

Some games I've really enjoyed are CrossCode, Unsighted, and Return of the Obra Dinn. I love games that have a strong identity and offer something memorable, whether it's satisfying gameplay, an intriguing world to explore, clever mechanics, or a unique way of telling a story.

I'm open to pretty much any genre, including RPGs, metroidvanias, puzzle games, adventure games, and even more experimental stuff.

I'm not necessarily looking for the most popular or critically acclaimed games. I'd rather discover something special, even if it's relatively unknown.

What pixel art game left the biggest impression on you, and why?

Fully Co-op RPG with classes (destiny like?)

Looking for a game that makes me feel like playing destiny for the first time again.

i remember when my buddy and i started destiny we went as different classes and play through the entire game together. it felt like a genuine adventure. What i think made it fun was a good exploratory world with story and lore and separate classes that let us feel strong but unique. It doesnt HAVE to be a shooter, but action rpg is preferred. also full campaign/story playing in co-op not just a co-op mode with side content only

things im not too interested in:
-souls like

-top-down

-heavy survival elements

-dark fantasy (remnant, darktide/vermintide)

it can be turn based but it's gotta be real good to get me past the action preference.

so far im looking at enshrouded

Y’all remember the pirate world in Poptropica? I’m looking for something as close to that as possible. I want to sail around, loot things, and be a pirate. Bonus points if I can play it on Switch.

Looking for some +18 games, text based or otherwise, some fun gameplay. NSFW

Some I've found myself enjoying are Degrees of lewdity and corruption of champions, something similar to that is nice but im not picky. I like when the games are actually quite in-depth, despite being an adult game. Any suggestions could help

Games similar to Drifter (engaging, great music, superb story, tense but easy to play)

Hi all,

I really have a small time budget when it comes to playing video games and I see my time as a real investment. That being said, I recently finished the Drifter and LOVED IT!
Looking for similar games that have that kind of great story and music, I couldn't care less about the cost, I just want to ensure I am playing top quality stuff. It doesn't have to be new or optimized for Switch 2 either. I also have an X86 handheld with SteamOS but prefer the Switch2.

Just got the What Remains of Edith Finch but haven't started yet. My research pointed me to that game, what do y'all think about it? Any other suggestions?
I don't want to commit 100+ hours to games like Elden Ring, Skyrim, RDR2 etc. yet. I am saving them for when I have more time on hand, like a long trip or solo time home alone.
Please provide me with some suggestions.

PS: I loved Drifter so much that I bought the soundtrack separately just to support developers. And thoroughly enjoying the music.

What's a game you wish you could experience for the first time again?

You know that feeling when you play a game for the first time and everything feels new and exciting?

I wish I could experience that feeling again with a game I absolutely loved.

For me, games with great stories and immersive worlds are the best.

What's that one game you'd love to play for the first time again, and why?

Moving on from my favorite game of 7 years to something else. Something that doesnt have a membership fee and is something with a positive community.

I am uninstalling World of warcraft when my subscription expires in November. This game used to bring me joy. I definitely loved the competitive ranked PvP scene. And I made lots of new friends playing it. But all my friends have either quit the game or dont talk to me anymore. It makes me sad. Also the quality of the game has gone downhill in lore and gameplay wise. And not to mention the toxicity of the game has massively increased. I just need to get away from it.

I have been playing some casual games recently but I want a new competitive game that has a moderate learning curve and something I can come back to after a long day of laborious work. Something maybe cost effective, like, I don't need an active subscription or DLC or pay to win mechanics at all. And the community is kind and welcoming. I love to make new friends as I go.

Any suggestions is a good suggestion.

Thank you. :)

Do you still enjoy playing the simple games we grew up with? 🎮

Games like Mario, catching object, those little arcade games where the concept is super simple but you somehow keep playing for ages.
With so many games today offering huge worlds, complex mechanics, detailed stories, and so much to explore, I’m curious: do you still find yourself going back to these simpler games?

Is it the nostalgia, the straightforward gameplay, the satisfaction of beating your own high score, or just the fact that sometimes you want to play something without having to learn a hundred different things?
Or have your gaming preferences changed over time?

I’d love to hear what you think! Do these games still have a place in your gaming life? 👾
