Why you shouldn't buy into the hype surrounding Squadron42.

I am not falling into the Squadron42 hype.

Its being hyped quite a bit. My YouTube feed - and I assume - the YouTube feeds of anyone that follows Star Citizen, is filled with positive content surrounding the title.

But I'm not falling into it...

Because I remember

I remember

I remember when SQ42 was initially slated to release in 2014, and it was then pushed back, not for a year, or two years, or even three years, but 12 fucking years.

12... fucking... years...

I remember that, I know that most have forgotten, but I have not.

I remember the tales of Server Meshing going into Star Citizen in 2017. Server Meshing didn't go in until like 2023. That's a 7 year gap.

I remember the "Year of Playability" for Star Citizen. The year that was supposted to take that game, and transform it from buggy wreck into a polished and solid game that you could play. That year has passed, and I've played Star Citizen recently, and its still a buggy wreck.

CIG lies

And they're extravagant lies.

The game is still an alpha after 14 years they say. You shouldn't expect better they say.

Its not too long they say, its just like GTA6 (this is wrong, Rockstar released RDR2 - arguably the best game ever made - in 2018, GTA6 comes only 8 years after their last masterpiece mega-hit, claiming that development took 14 years is what happens when you count from GTA5's release, and include every moment anyone even thought about GTA6 - even when they were hard at work on RDR2). 14 years is normal for a AAA game they say - also a lie.

I might be wrong

Its possible, maybe SQ42 will indeed release in 2027 (I doubt it) and maybe it will really be this masterpiece AAA level game, but I doubt it.

I really doubt it.

I doubt it because where there's smoke, there's usually fire. We have every reason to believe that CIG is mostly incapable of delivering a compelling game experience. They've failed with Star Citizen - at least so far - and the 12 year gap with regard to SQ42 tells us that they're full of shit. No game is ready and then gets a 12 year delay. If it was really ready, it wouldn't have gotten a 12 year delay.

The one thing CIG does well, is control the conversation

Here on reddit, criticize CIG, and eventually mods will come after you. I've been banned from several Star Citizen reddits for being critical of the game. I was once banned from an SC reddit for merely pointing out that Star CItizen has been in development for 14 years - as that's apparently not something you're allowed to bring up in Star Citizen circles.

I do not know for sure that CIG controls most of the SC subs here on reddit, but I suspect they do.

And of course they also controlled the press surrounding their Squadron42 event. Only the whitest of white knight YouTube content creators were allowed to attend. No real press. Its hard to prove a negative, but as far as I can tell, no one from Gamespot or IGN was invited.

This was a giveaway to biased CIG influencers, who are out there doing CIG a solid day in day out by talking about amazing upcoming features and not talking about delays, bugs, and the failure of CIG to deliver.

I think they've controlled the conversation surrounding SQ42.

Time will tell, but I'm not buying the hype.

EDIT: Look at the CIG bots go. Every time you post something negative about CIG, you get a titdal wave of bots downvoting and making snarky comments. If your post does well enough, sometimes it will push through the bots, and you'll get a 90% upvote rate, but oftentimes the bots win, and push the post down until its lost - unless people upvote the post... and fight the bots.

We may be living in different realities if you think there's a "hype" for it.

Lol that was my first thought reading OPs headline. The “gaming community” doesn’t mention Star Citizen at all anymore except as an occasional punchline or cautionary tale.

There is no hype at all, and hasn’t been for like a decade. I suspect most of the non-delusional people who would be interested in the project have long since just installed No Man’s Sky or Starfield and played a space game that, while flawed, actually exists.

You literally can’t purchase SQ42. There’s nothing to buy. This reads like Ai

Also, there’s massive amounts of hate for Star Citizen and SQ42, the only people hyped about it are influencers paid to be or players who spent hundreds to thousands on Star Citizen.

I don't know what channels you follow but Star Citizen and everything surrounding it is a punchline until proven otherwise.

u/FallenLucifer_2077 14h ago

Never heard of it lol

Man, this is a wild post. Full on rant with formatting, going on about a game apparently most people haven't even heard of, in a post clearly run through a chatbot...then capping it off saying pro-company bots are out, from a company that also seems to be just as unknown.

My main problem is that posts like this take attention away from the release of Electric Boogaloo 4, by Definitely Real Games.

what hype?

7

u/420BUNIT 14h ago

Nobodies buying the hype. The only people that still care about Star Citizen are those that have sunken cash and time into it, copium is the only feeling they know at this point.

7

u/thenagz 14h ago

The only people still hyping anything Star Citizen related are paid shills or delusional whales, and neither can be convinced by posts like this

16

u/BrassCanon 14h ago

Long fucking post about a game that isn't even out yet.

2

u/one_orange_braincell 14h ago

That's been in development hell for a full decade.

4

u/RuySan 14h ago

Never heard about it before. You just gave the game coverage

4

u/markbraggs 14h ago

The hype died 10 years ago.

4

u/TummyDrums 14h ago

I stopped paying attention to Star Citizen years ago. When it comes out, if it is good I will buy it. If it is not, I won't. Outside of that, I don't really care what's happened since they started developing it.

3

u/ventin 14h ago

I've never even heard of it, so hype averted

3

u/MattTreck 14h ago

Literally just wait and see what it is lol

3

u/Kingindan0rf 14h ago

Hype? I already paid for this game a decade ago. It's been 100% funded for about the same amount of time. The community keeps giving them money though. Lol. I don't care anymore.

Is the hype in the room with us

3

u/shogunreaper 11h ago

Is this a post saying we shouldn't buy into the hype of a game in order to hype up a game?

I'm willing to bet the majority of people who click on this post have never heard of this game.

u/The_Red_Moses 11h ago

Its been filling my YouTube for the past two weeks. If you aren't into Star Citizen, maybe you haven't heard of it. For those of us that follow it, the hype is deafening.

  1. what hype?
  2. was this post written by ai?
  3. cig doesn't "control the conversation" anywhere but the SC subs that they mod, which is a tiny minority of reddit. they're also allowed to grant early access to whomever they want to their game, that's how owning a product works and literally how all game companies work when providing advanced access (they prioritize getting positive previews)

edit: bro i downvoted you because this post is shit lmao, what a victim

7

u/MarkG1 Boardgames 14h ago

It does feel very AI

3

u/TheawfulDynne 14h ago

CIG doesn’t even mod  the SC sub or the discord. The only thing they control is their own website and its forums.

3

u/A_Lie_Detector 11h ago

Bro is defo an AI poster. He isnt allowed in any of the SC subreddits (both the positive and hate ones).

So hes posting here instead.

Eight of the eleven posts OP has submitted across various subs in the past month have been critical "reviews" of some aspect of Star Citizen.

While I'm backer of the game, believe me there is a lot, and I mean a lot, of shit to criticize about the game and the company and I would never recommend it given it's current state. But hate posting about it like it's his job... OP needs to get out and touch some grass.

I completely understand wanting to forewarn people about the state of the game, but he's just letting CIG and Chris Roberts live rent-free in he head at this point.

u/Nettysocks 14h ago

Is there hype? I feel like everyone knows about it being what it is by now

2

u/wessex464 14h ago

Maybe, just maybe, you might need something else in your life to be passionate about.

It's an unreleased video game. It might suck, it might be good, it might come out in Q2 next year, it might come out in q3 2034. Who cares? Play it or don't. Follow it or don't.

Negative nellies jumping on a bandwagon for something still at least 6 months from release.

2

u/Joustiin76 13h ago

what hype? never heard of it.

2

u/Automaton_General 13h ago

Hype?

I think this thread is the first time I've heard someone mention it in over a year

2

u/USDXBS 8h ago

Games don't exist for me until streamers are playing them and putting out full videos.

4

u/Rendal_ 14h ago

Is the hype in the room with us ?

3

u/imhereforsiegememes 14h ago

If it appeals to you and reviews well, play it. If not, don't.

Its not bots downvoting you, you're just pretentious and annoying.

2

u/turbantripod 14h ago

This is so fucking weird people are so creepy with the ai shit

1

u/Fugaciouslee 14h ago

Were you trying to come off like a crazy person with the different font sizes and conspiracy language? Might as well have wrote this with letters clipped out of a newspaper. It will either be good or it won't. There's no reason to get worked up over it, it's just a game.

2

u/Plantarbre 14h ago

Crazy suggestion: wait until it comes out, play if it's good, don't play if it's bad, don't care about the rest

My comment is likely to get removed by reddit/automod or whatever but...

Bro here is an AI poster, he is no longer welcome in SC subreddits, both positive and negative for a whole list of reasons, anything from spam, to toxicity, to excessive hate.

He was even removed from /r/starcitizen_refunds, a subreddit wholly dedicated to hating the game with extreme ferocity. He said some shit that would get anyone banned in the games official forums, then came to that sub to lie about his ban reason, while simultaneously posting the ACTUAL reason. And every single hater went "Lmao nah bro thats on you".

So now he is posting here, and will likely post about SQ42/SC daily. Just a heads up.

u/CatatonicMan 14h ago

...what hype?

1

u/rvdical 14h ago

First time hearing about this, and what is a CIG bot?

1

u/WestguardWK 14h ago

And why is RDR2 arguably the best game ever made?

0

u/Droeteeker 3h ago

Its not the best gamplay ever but its the best writing, acting and open world

1

u/wecanhaveallthree 14h ago

I'm hyped for the game. I really wasn't sure about the whole rah-rah-our-country recruiting ad theme for the start of the trailer, but having seen that hour-long presentation of the early game, this seems like a (dumb) stylistic choice rather than a representation of the general tone. It sold me as soon as we meet the 'epic hero pilot' of Definitely Not The Tiger's Claw who turns around and growls 'who the hell are you', though.

Wing Commander's carrier guff and character work were a big part of my early gaming years. I'll take another one. Then again, I liked Prophecy, so de gustibus.

There are 19 replies so far in the thread, not a single one defending CIG. There is a reason their hame earned the moniker of ScamCitizen. What CIG bits are you reffering to? All I heard about it was that a Steam page was created and that it's not even going to be the full game when it releases

1

u/Mithious 12h ago edited 12h ago

and that it's not even going to be the full game when it releases

It is the full game, the claims otherwise are just yet more lies from the likes of OP (dude literally created a toxic SC subreddit just to pin a post complaining about moderation in a "low sodium" SC sub, what is wrong in this guy's life?).

During kickstarter CIG said they intended to make "the game" Squadron 42, and at some point release a mission disk DLC (which is included in early pledges).

At various points they've floated options about how to release the game, as well as replacing that DLC with multiple full size sequels, however as it stands right now the plan is:

  1. The originally promised 40+ hour full game of SQ42, with all story lines wrapped up is coming Q2 2027.
  2. Move over to getting Star Citizen to 1.0 release
  3. Then review options for sequels or DLC if SQ42 sells well.

The only outstanding question is what happens to people that have been promised the mission disk DLC if they end up deciding sequels are not worth it.

u/AdaptiveHunter 14h ago

Wasn’t squadron 42 also supposed to have a bunch of big name actors in it too? I vaguely remember something about mark hamill and Henry cavil being in it. Have they said anything about it coming out? I know the star citizen devs are incapable of delivering a game but if the cast says it’s coming out I’d be more inclined to believe it’s coming out.

1

u/TheawfulDynne 14h ago

Mark Hamill was at the recent play test he met the guests took pictures and also apparently played part of the game in the VR motion sim setup they had on the second day.

1

u/AdaptiveHunter 14h ago

Did he say anything about the game, his character, the recording process or anything like that?

1

u/TheawfulDynne 13h ago

Well they haven’t posted any of the official video or anything so I’m just getting scraps from people talking about their experience with the play test. So what Ive heard is he was there for a meet and greet on day one and was also recording some more lines, he did the VR thing and everything was being recorded so he at least believes in it enough to be on camera supporting it. No idea when they'll actually finish putting the video together and post it. I think it’s likely they probably did a bit of an interview or something with him that will be included in the event video.

1

u/Unlucky-Plastic-2519 12h ago

Does he even remember it? I mean he likely recorded those lines before The Last Jedi released

1

u/WaxWing_Bohemian 13h ago

I saw an early review that says the game is half cutscenes. So most of what you are seeing in the trailers is cutscenes it looks like. Looks good, but it's likely very small box, limited gameplay followed by big cutscene.

Sounds like it's an animated movie they're releasing with a small game attached

2

u/asmallman 11h ago

They guy who said that is BoredGamer.

He took 5 hours to get through the first 1 hour and 10 minutes of play.

somehow.

The rest of the reviewers actually SAW a lot of FPS and ship combat. LOL

1

u/Syrairc 12h ago

you have to be pretty delusional to support that company at this point anyway

Nobody gives a shit except the people already into that scam

1

u/_Restless_Spirit_ 11h ago

Sure, you can be critical of this game and its developers, but you’re really taking it to the next level and not in a good way. Every time I see a post from you here, it’s always just about Star Citizen. And did you seriously create a subreddit just to bash the devs? Maybe you should get a life and go out and touch some grass. Your obsession is unhealthy.

1

u/burnbabyburner100 1h ago

So game isn't out but in supposed to believe a redditor that the game is bad. Ok thanks I guess?

1

u/hymen_destroyer 14h ago

I actually think it will release sometime next year but even if it’s everything they promised it would be it’s 12 years late and hundreds of millions of dollars over budget which is completely unacceptable.

1

u/FryJPhilip 13h ago

Jesse what the fuck are you talking about?

1

u/redcoatwright 11h ago

Cool story, are there maybe meds you need a lot of

0

u/Hefty-Classroom2099 14h ago

i aint gonna read all of that.

but hear me out. what if, by a chance, you buy a game after few days/weeks of its release, once you can see reviews?

from a trailer game looks 10/10. but so did mindseye. and that game was way closer to 1 than 10. dont be influenced by FOMO.
