Story In our sci-fi game, the floor and the bridge were both gone. The Pilot: "I'm very good at lassoing things..."
In our Stars Without Number game, the crew, stuck in a time loop, was crossing a space station that was coming apart around them. They got to a warehouse door they'd been through before, and this time it was sealed, with low oxygen and pressure warnings all over the readout next to it.
The hacker figured that the second he opened it, everything on their side was getting pulled through. So the fighter pulled out her rope. "My treasured possession." She tied six people into one line: herself, a cultist they'd agreed not to kill about ten minutes earlier ("unfortunately"), the pilot, the ship's doctor, the captain, and the hacker on the end. Mag boots on. Door open.
The rush of air nearly took them off their feet anyway, and the warehouse wasn't there anymore. The bottom of the room had been ripped out. Way down below was the alien machine that's been eating the station, miles off and still big enough that every rotation shook the floor they were standing on. There used to be a bridge across. What was left of it was a stub on the far side, next to the door they needed.
The hacker looked at six people roped together on the edge of a hole and said, "Well, shit. You want to untie us? I think being tied together now would be a disadvantage."
And the pilot said, "I am just putting out into the world that I am very good at lassoing things."
The fighter's player: "Don't know where he picked up that skill, but it works."
He picked out a little horn of metal sticking off the broken end of the bridge, threw, and caught it. "True as can be. Nailed it. First try."
Everyone pulled themselves across and made it to the far door. How is he so good at that? Must be a clone thing.
This is from our show, Dark Star Adventurecast. The episode is An Acceptable Loss.
