Game valuation and authentication MEGATHREAD

ALL requests regarding game value or authentication go in here. Just leave a top level comment with pictures/info of what it is. If you make a post regarding these topics, the post will be removed and possibly get a 1-7 day ban.

If you see posts on these topics PLEASE report it. It helps immensely. We will be updating automoderator to help alleviate some of that burden from us and you onto it.

---

If you are asking to price something normal. Like the normal release of a game, or a special edition, normal consoles, or some special editions. You can find a decent approximation of its value here at PriceCharting.com

To help, here are some links directly to some consoles. These are not ALL of the consoles the site has. So please if you do not see a link below for the console you are looking for, go to the site and look around. This should cover MOST games, if it is not listed, please ask in this thread.

Also, to possibly get you closer to the "real" value. Click on this link once you found your game (for loose/CIB/Sealed) which will show you the data it is pulling from (like this). You can see if there are any outliers being sold for far to much, or far to little. Maybe a listing that had other games with it is being used for data, or its CIB rather than loose.

Announcement Read this BEFORE you post to r/gamecollecting. Rule clarifications, further info etc.

Posts and comments that do not follow the below rules will be removed.

Rule 1 - Be kind: Disagree agreeably; attack the argument, not the poster.

We ask that all of our members act responsibly. We do not condone a rude or hostile environment. Whilst you may have a differing opinion on what someone collects, be it loose, CIB, sealed and/or graded games, consoles and accessories; we ask that you keep it civil. We welcome discussions of all things related to collecting games, from comparing games in a series to why you like a certain console over others; but we do not welcome antagonising other users over a certain sub-section of games, or arranging to post to get a rise out of certain people - it just makes you look immature. Essentially, if you can't take it, don't dish it.

You can use Reddit's "Block" feature to ignore a user that you don't like, for whatever reason.

Turning something into an argument or harassing other users because you don't like "X" takes away from what the sub is about. This is a bannable offense, please be awesome to each other.

Rule 2 - No price evaluations, authentication or identification posts.

We're not a subreddit that's dedicated to verification, valuation or identification requests. Whilst we are one of the largest gaming subreddits, we focus solely on aspects of collecting. There are other subreddits that are better equipped to these requests which are detailed in our megathread. The Megathread is pinned to the top of the subreddit (when browsing by "Top" on Old Reddit), or located in "Community Highlights" on Reddit Mobile.

Under Rule 2, the following submissions will be removed:

  • Price Evaluation
    • This also includes "did I get a good deal/is it worth buying?"
  • Authentication
    • This includes “is this legit/fake?”
  • Identification
    • This also includes "what version is this/what is this item?", rarity questions, etc.
  • Should I buy "X" for "Y" price?
  • Grading
    • This includes “what grade will this get/value if X grade is gained” etc.

Rule 3 - Promotion of items or services without approval is forbidden.

We do not allow the promotion of items or services, or submissions posted with the intent of advertising or promoting businesses or shops; unless it is from approved channels. Other methods of self-promotion require prior approval from the moderators. Please message the moderators via ModMail first prior to posting your material. Approval will be granted at the moderators' discretion.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Subreddits.
  • Websites.
    • This also includes review sites, KickStarters, AI tools, flipping, etc.
  • Videos.
  • Applications.
    • This includes games, Android/iOS tools, etc.
  • Backlog/collection/"investment" tools
  • Subliminal advertising (logos, ads disguised as content, etc.)

If the only submissions from your account consist of self-promotion, this will result in a permanent restriction of your account from our community. Furthermore, if you have never submitted content to the community from an account you use to request post approval - it is unlikely that we will approve your submission.

Approved channels can be added at moderators' discretion. Please message the moderators via ModMail to ask about adding an approved channel. If you haven't received approval from the moderators, any attempts to continue promoting a channel without prior authorisation will result in a permanent ban. This includes posting your content anyway when you're still awaiting a response.

If you get caught advertising without approval and then message the moderators for approval... No. You're not going to get approval. Any further attempt to hide your app/tool/site in your comments will lead to a permanent ban. You've been told not to do it, don't push your luck.

We very rarely approve potential resources unless we feel that they are of vast importance to the community. The list of approved resources can be found in our wiki:

The list of denied resources can be found below (use a browser, addition to the "New" wiki coming soon). Any attempt to share/advertise a denied resource will result in a ban.

Rule 4 - Low effort posts will be removed.

The following posts are deemed as low-effort and not allowed under Rule 4:

  • Consist of screenshots of marketplace listings.
  • Look at this price I paid/got someone to pay.
    • This also includes screenshots of eBay/Mercari/FBM etc listings, receipts.
  • Remember this game/console/accessory?
  • Digital game collections.
  • Petitions
  • AI/LLM's
  • Repeated content or information previously shared in the subreddit.
    • This includes the cessation of physical copies, it's been repeated far too much, we know ALL about it.

Submissions of low-effort posts are at the mods' discretion.

Rule 5 - Meme Monday.

Whilst we enjoy the odd meme post now and then, we ask that memes or joke posts are only shared on the first Monday of every month. If you have a meme, or a joke post, or something you think is on the line of being a joke post; please wait until the first Monday of the next month.

If you are generally unsure of the post, please contact the mods using the "message moderators" and ask us.

Rule 6 - Submissions must be related to Game Collecting.

Just because it is related to video games, doesn't mean that it is related to game collecting.

We are a physical game collecting subreddit. This means that posts regarding the physical collections (be it, video games, consoles or accessories) of our community are allowed. Clue’s in the name.

Submissions of posts not being related are at the mods' discretion, and include but are not limited to:

  • Digital game collections
  • Discussions about lore
  • Surveys
  • Reddit Games (ones that you play on Reddit itself)
    • These are a permanent ban from the subreddit due to spam
  • Customer support required - use the relevant support pages on the website, not here.

Rule 7 - No video submissions/comments.

As this community is one of the largest trafficked subreddits, video submissions are rarely allowed due to spam potential and this is highly enforced. If you feel that your video has value to the subreddit, please message the moderators using ModMail prior to posting any video.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Collection tours
  • History of games and franchises
  • Speculative drivel about the future of gaming.
  • Valuation and grading
  • YouTube shorts/TikToks

Repair/mod videos are unlikely to be approved, unless they are deemed as relevant information by the moderators.

If the video you are sharing was produced by yourself, this will be removed under Rule 3.

Rule 8 - No affiliate links.

We are not here for you to make money. Do not post affiliate links, or links to a company/person who you are affiliated with and stand to make monetary/social gain from. This includes coupon codes, Temu/AliExpress links, etc.

Any attempt to share affiliate links will be seen as spam, and will result in the permanent restriction of your account from our community.

Rule 9 - No buying/selling.

We're not a subreddit that's dedicated to buying or selling. Whilst we are one of the largest gaming subreddits, we focus solely on aspects of collecting. There are other subreddits that are better equipped to these requests, such as r/GameSale and r/HardwareSwap.

Asking about a certain website, or good places to buy/sell is allowed, providing that there are no attempts to buy/sell from other users in the subreddit. Do not message the moderators to attempt to have your sales submissions approved. They will be ignored.

Rule 10 - No politics.

No discussion of politics, no posting anything of politics in title, imagery, or in the post in any way (country/state/county/pride flags do not count). This is subject to mod interpretation.

Rule 11 - Taking advantage of/focus away from the general ethos of the subreddit.

There are times a person or person will post, comment, or argue on the subreddit that will pull focus away from (purposefully or maliciously) the atmosphere and/or culture we have. That is rage baiting, arguing semantics, discussion of things that are off topic for lengthy back and forths. This also includes organised and concentrated attempts to belittle, planning to engage with malicious intent and harassment across different platforms.

This also includes any attempt to “weaponise” the custom report feature. Whilst we welcome reports on rule-breaking submissions as they make moderating the subreddit easier; reporting a post/comment because you simply do not like the content or the person in question takes away what makes this community great. Any user found to have “weaponised” the report feature in order to continue a vendetta against a certain person or group will be permanently removed from the community; be it automated removals or a permanent ban.

Updated Sep 2026: Rule 3, self-promotion requirements.

Haul A Bigger Win Than I Initially Thought ($6.41 total after tax)

Was on my way to work today when I realized I had a bit of time to kill so I went to a thrift store I frequent along the way. I go inside and it looks like they got quite a few new things in since my last visit. I go to the back where the video games/dvd bin is kept and, right at the top of the pile, I see Fire Emblem Engage. That alone was enough for me to scoop it up but, when I did, I heard rattling inside of the case. Pulling the case open as much as I could (the store taped the case shut), I peeked inside of the opening and saw a total of four Switch cartridges! Score! After checking the rest of the bin (just a couple of PS2 and PS3 Madden games), I paid for the games, left the store, cut the tape off, opened the case and was greeted by four games I didn’t have in my Switch collection yet.

I’d love to say I plan on keeping all four games but WWE 2K18 on Switch is nigh unplayable so I’ll be getting rid of that one. The game I’m most excited to play is Pokémon Legends: Arceus though that’ll have to wait until after the Halloween season is over. I know this message has been beaten over this subreddit for years now but I’ll gladly say it over and over again: the deals are still out there. Happy hunting.

Well, I went to spend money and I did! Insane haul and knocked quite a few grails off of my list. Everything is mint or near mint complete with reg and all inserts. The Gundam Force is sealed, but I’m going to open it because what good is a game if it isn’t played? This was my second year at the Con and I had so much fun. I live in Michigan and am going to try to make it a yearly event since my two best friends live out there!

Collection My holy trinity of 6th Gen console licensed loose disc booklets

I’m not a completionist by any means, if I can get a copy of a disc loose at a decent price I’ll snag it. But I’ve always wanted to store them in an “official” style way so I’ve been on the look out for vintage console branded disc booklets and finally completed the big 3 6th gen consoles (not including the Dreamcast)

Just wanted to share the vibes, see if anyone has any other vintage disc booklets to share they have that came out and I’ve never seen or if anyone has a Dreamcast one I should find.

Does anyone collect loose discs in this way?

Collection My Silent Hill Collection. Small Collection, a Few Heavy Hitters!

Post image

With SH Townfall releasing last month, SH f last year, and the recent Resident Evil movie, I've found myself getting back into survival horror lately.

I posted my RE collection earlier, so now I will follow with my SH games!

Like RE, I mostly stopped actively collecting around the PS2/GC era, although I've still played the newer Silent Hill releases.

It's a fairly modest collection, but there are a couple of real standouts.

The crown jewel is definitely the sealed, first-release metallic/silver cover variant of the original SH for PS1, graded CGC 9.6. It's actually one of the most valuable games in my entire collection.

One game currently on my want list is the PS2 Greatest Hits edition of SH2. Normally, I avoid Greatest Hits releases, but this one is an exception because it actually includes additional content. It is one of those rare budget re-releases that's arguably more desirable than the original!

Anyway, here's my collection in chronological order by NA release date:

1999

  • PS1 – Silent Hill (Regular Cover)
  • PS1 – Silent Hill (First-Release Metallic/Silver Cover, CGC 9.6, Sealed)

2001

  • PS2 – Silent Hill 2

2003

  • PS2 – Silent Hill 3

2004

  • PS2 – Silent Hill 4: The Room

2007

  • PSP – Silent Hill: Origins

2008

  • PS2 – Silent Hill: Origins
  • PS3 – Silent Hill: Homecoming

2009

  • Wii – Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

2010

  • PS2 – Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (WATA 9.4 A+)
  • PSP – Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Sealed)

2012

  • PS3 – Silent Hill HD Collection (Sealed)
  • PS3 – Silent Hill: Downpour
  • PS Vita – Silent Hill: Book of Memories

It's certainly not the biggest Silent Hill collection out there, but I'm pretty happy with it!

Are there any interesting physical releases or variants that I have missed?

More survival horror collections to come!

Collection My Survival Horror Collection Including the PS2 Horror Trifecta and Their Original GameStop Price Stickers!

Thumbnail
gallery
32 Upvotes

Third collection post today! After sharing my Resident Evil and Silent Hill collections, I figured I'd finish things off with the rest of my survival horror games.

Like the other two collections, I mostly stopped actively collecting around the PS2/GC era. It's not a complete collection by any means, but I've managed to accumulate a pretty good chunk of the classic survival horror library.

Of course, the highlights are the PS2 Survival Horror Trifecta: Kuon, Rule of Rose, and Haunting Ground. My favorite thing about these isn't necessarily their current value. It's the original GameStop price stickers!

I picked up Kuon for $4.99 and Rule of Rose for $19.99, back when these were just obscure (pun intended) games that nobody seemed particularly interested in. Obscure has a $14.99 price tag, although this is not considered part of the horror trifecta. Those are the actual prices I paid, and I've deliberately kept the stickers on the cases all these years.

Here's the rest of my survival horror collection, organized chronologically by NA release:

1997

  • PS1 – Clock Tower

1998

  • PS1 – Parasite Eve

1999

  • PS1 – Dino Crisis
  • PS1 – Galerians
  • PS1 – Clock Tower II: The Struggle Within

2000

  • PS1 – Koudelka
  • PS1 – Parasite Eve II
  • PS1 – Dino Crisis 2

2001

  • PS2 – Fatal Frame

2002

  • PS2 – The Thing
  • PS2 – Galerians: Ash

2003

  • PS2 – Clock Tower 3
  • PS2 – Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly

2004

  • PS2 – Lifeline
  • PS2 – Siren
  • PS2 – The Suffering
  • PS2 – Kuon
  • PS2 – Obscure
  • PS2 – Echo Night: Beyond

2005

  • PS2 – Haunting Ground
  • PS2 – The Suffering: Ties That Bind
  • PS2 – Fatal Frame III: The Tormented

2006

  • PS2 – Rule of Rose

2008

  • PS2 – Obscure: The Aftermath

2010

  • Wii – Calling

Looking back at these games, I really miss that PS1/PS2 era of survival horror. Thank you for looking at my posts today!

Collection My Resident Evil Collection Mostly Complete Through the PS2 Era

Post image
24 Upvotes

So, I just watched the new RE movie (thought it was awesome), which got me looking through my RE collection again.

It's definitely not a complete collection, but I think I've got a pretty good start! I've managed to pick up most of the mainline games, along with a decent number of spin offs.

I pretty much stopped actively collecting newer games after the PS2/GC era, which probably explains why my copy of PS3 RE6 is still sealed.

Here's what I've collected so far in NA releases only (I had AI sort it chronologically for me):

1996

  • PS1 Resident Evil (Long Box)
  • PS1 Resident Evil (Jewel Case)

1998

  • PS1 Resident Evil 2

1999

  • PS1 Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
  • PS1 Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (with Dino Crisis Demo)

2000

  • PS1 Resident Evil Survivor

2001

  • PS2 Resident Evil Code: Veronica X (Regular Edition)
  • PS2 Resident Evil Code: Veronica X (Anniversary Edition, Sealed)

2002

  • GBC Resident Evil Gaiden (WATA 9.6 A+)
  • GC Resident Evil (Remake)
  • GC Resident Evil 0

2003

  • GC Resident Evil 2
  • GC Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
  • PS2 Resident Evil Dead Aim

2004

  • PS2 Resident Evil Outbreak

2005

  • GC Resident Evil 4
  • PS2 Resident Evil Outbreak File #2
  • PS2 Resident Evil 4

2006

  • DS Resident Evil: Deadly Silence

2009

  • PS3 Resident Evil 5

2012

  • PS3 Resident Evil 6 (Sealed)

Looking through these also got me digging into the rest of my survival horror collection (Silent Hill and then all the rest) so I'll probably post those games next.

I'm curious: are there any particularly interesting releases or variants from this era that I've overlooked?

Roughly 15 years of collecting and curating. I'm sure I'll continue to buy and sell certain titles, but I plan on keeping the size about the same. Everything here are games I have enjoyed or plan to.

My favorite things in the collection are the old light gun games across NES, PS1, and PS2.

My least favorite things are (controversially, I know) the Genesis and Dreamcast. Sega just never really clicked with me.

Collection Which games on your collection are your favorites? These are mine

Post image

It doesn't need to be your favorite games in general, just the ones you're happier to own. For me:

- Pokémon Heart Gold (My favorite game of all time)

- Ocarina of Time (My second favorite game of all time)

- Majora's Mask (My third favorite game of all time)

- Twilight Princess (My favorite Cover Art)

- Pokémon XD Gale of Darkness (I got this one from a friend for $5 a looong time ago before I even started collecting games and knowing it's value + love the game)

- 999 (I got this one as a teenager I was on a Anime phase and didn't even played, only did it when I found out the game was kinda rare and many consider PEAK VN, and it is a 10/10 game)

Discussion YouTubers going from collectors to resellers

Anyone else kind of fed up with YouTubers/content creators starting as collectors that become glorified resellers? I feel like it ruins the fun of the hunt when you eventually own a store or just have massive booths at conventions reselling things. Also, they always make good trades and deals with other creators doing the same crap. Feel like the Everyman gets screwed a lot. Maybe I’m alone in this but just irks me lately.

Does anyone else display their games like this? Or just me lol. I aim to keep adding to this and want a whole metal gear solid wall as it's my favourite series of all time.

Excited to tell my baby son all about it when he is older and show how physical games were
