Discussion AI hate is going too far

Unpopular opinion, but I've been in the furry fandom for 9 years and it's the first time I have to block so many people, because I think their attitude is dumb.

Yes, people should be allowed to dislike anything, but hating on someone and willing to ban them from any platform, just because they decide to have an AI picture in their profile, I don't think that's okay... it doesn't make you a better person, actually. It's internet. Not a dictatorship where you decide on people the profile they must have.

Yes, requesting a comission will always be a better option, but not everyone has money for it and it's up to the person to do it so. I don't see the problem with that.

AI is taking up artist's jobs? No, not really. When AI was not a thing, a lot of furries were using fursonas found in Google Images, and no one was complaining about Google Images taking up artist's jobs. And again, it's their right to have any picture they want, as long as they don't claim it's drawn by them.

Now, go bully a 14 years old who just wants to make friends in the community because they already gets bullied in school, and has an AI fursona, just because they don't have money and their parents are not willing to pay for it. Make them unwelcomed. See how terrible this sounds!!??

From now, I treat the anti-AI sentiment as a red flag. Sorry not sorry.

I'm ready to get lots of downvotes, but that is my opinion and I wanted to express it openly.

What is the rarest type of furry? Because we've all seen the classic blue wolf but what is the rarest? Bugs maybe?

Discussion Is ageism a thing?

I've been a lurker in the community for a while but I'm ready to attend a local meetup and start socializing but I'm a little nervous because of my age. I'm 58. I've been cosplaying for 20 years so I have some skills and passion. I already have a fursona in mind too. I know the community is very welcoming in general, just hoping that includes older people.

Edit: Ya'll are awesome. Thank you for alleviating my worry. This is exactly the kindness and support I was hoping for in the community. Keep being amazing!

Gracias.

Discussion Are there terms for different levels of anthro?

Hey, newbie here! 👋 I’m curious about the spectrum of furry character designs from human-like to fully feral, especially the stages in between, but I’m not sure what to search for. Are there terms for different points along that spectrum? Any keywords or character examples would help!

I couldn’t find much on this, so any pointers, even just keywords to search for, would be appreciated!

I'm genuinely curious, mine is probably Dutch Angel Dragon, or Expie. If I don't respond to things it's cause I'm asleep, I'm about to head to bed, but I will respond when I get a chance

Discussion Why are anatomically correct animal genitalia normal in the fandom? NSFW

I'm just trying to understand 'cause I don't quite get it. I'm a furry myself ofc and also am watching adult videos with anthro characters but whenever I see anatomically correct genitalia of an animal it really throws me off, weirds me out and I just go look for something that is with more human anatomy. I wanna hear the logic behind liking those because to me it seems pretty disturbing and questionable (seems to me for valid reason?) but I don't want to jump into conclusions and wanna hear actual reasons for this first before forming an actual opinion.

Discussion Question for furry business owners

Hey everyone! I have a college assignment for business class and it requires these questions to be asked. They are for small business owners in the community specifically:

Local Small Business Owner Interview:

Why did you start your business?

What factors have led to your success?

What issues have you experienced?

What advice would you give to a potential entrepreneur/small business starter?

I thought that since I'm a furry and I am absolutely terrified of interviewing someone in person, I could just ask the people that are part of the thing I'm interested in online instead! There also seems to be large volumes of small businesses in the fandom.

If there are any issues with this post, please let me know. I have already read the rules, and it seems like any questions are okay; but please notify me if anything is off. Thank you!

Discussion Heya, I have a question about my commission info, and didn't know where else to ask.

I started taking art commissions last your, and over the time I changed my pricing a lot. I see other artists' commission info and find myself opening my eyes wide seeing the prices, and what they offer. I'm starting to feel like I might be underpricing myself, and thinking maybe I might not be getting clients because of my pricing or something. The base price for my rendered Headshots could start at £35, while someone else starts theirs at £100 for example.

Like, sure I know that the quality of the work matters and all, but when I look at some of the artist's examples of their work, and look at mine, it's almost similar. Here's my carrd with all my prices, examples and info. Might I be underpricing my work? And also are there any suggested prices? For example, I'm thinking of maybe bumping up the rendered Headshots from £35 to £50. Please give your thoughts, because this is kinda concerning me.

(I'll add the link in the description)

Also, one of the people who wanted to commission me said I gave off... "bot vibes" and then completely ghosted me. I'm still not sure what they meant by that exactly, but that has been clawing at my brain for a while.

Discussion My child (11f) is starting to show interest in the community. What should I know?

My daughter has been a cat person since before she could talk. She loves Warriors, and almost exclusively draws cats.
She found out about fursuits and, unsurprisingly, became obsessed. She decided she wanted paws, feet, and a tail for Halloween. She even combed through Etsy and Amazon and presented me with a under-$100 list.

Yesterday she came home from school wearing her tail (which is fine by me in theory, but I need to check the school’s dress code and consider whether it’s a good idea), and loves wearing her paws during the day.
Her interest may not extend beyond “I like my cool cat costume.” But I suspect that she may be interested in learning more about community and making a fursona.

Is there anything I should know or research if she does continue down the rabbit hole (no pun intended). Cons, the community, costumes, green flags/red flags, that kind of thing.
I do know that the community is generally very accepting and kind, but she’s also still a child, and I want to support her while being as informed as possible.

Discussion What would you put in a Documentary about Furries

Hello! I am a TV producer at my university, and this year I am tasked with creating a YouTube show from scratch. I want to do something like a series that dives into subcultures on campus, one of which is the furry community, as there is a very lively one on my campus, and we host a Furry Con at the end of the year. It will be my last episode for the year (I am tasked with making 3) so I will have all year to work on it, and I want to make it perfect.

I am originally from the South, so that, combined with the internet, has not given me the best notion of furries, but after having the pleasure of actually getting to know people who are furries, I realise just how wrong I was, and I'd love to be able to showcase the furry community for what it actually is, so basically what I'm asking is: what can't I leave out? No wrong answers

Discussion How the furry community shaped my art journey since 2016

Hello!! :o

I wanted to share a little story about my childhood favorite artist who completely changed my life.

Back in 2016 when I was 9 years old, I stumbled into the animation meme community, and Rossali’s work was the absolute spark that made me want to start drawing. Her style blew my mind, and she's the entire reason I created my own sona and kept practicing all these years, I seriously owe her so much :)

The coolest part?? All these years later, I've actually grown up to become an artist myself! >_> I'm building my own community now and making my own art, which feels completely surreal looking back at where I started.

Fast forward to today,, I'm now an adult, nearly 21, with my own job and my own money. It feels like an amazing full-circle moment to finally be in a position where I can commission her and properly support the person who inspired my entire artistic journey.

This is why I love being a furry!! I can worldbuild, create my own characters and I was inspired since a kid. Being a furry isn't something to be ashamed of, it's an amazing creative space, and I wanted to share this opinion.

She recently released a limited-edition plushie, and I jumped on it so fast,, I was even the 6th person to buy it lol. If anyone else wants to check it out, you can find it here: Tee-zr plushie link

Has anyone else here had a childhood creator inspire them to keep drawing???

Discussion The Fandom Goes Mainstream

I made this a little bit ago, didn't know about this community until now. The growing social media-ization of the fandom is something I think we're all aware of here, but I thought I'd take a deeper dive on the statistics behind it as well. Enjoy.
