I think this is fun to discuss especially given that all of them would actually be pretty old adults now (wild to think that the freaks are in their sixties. Wow! Their kids would be in their thirties and forties.)
Sam seems like he would be consistent, reliable, and hardworking. But I think he would also be too insecure to ask for a raise and struggle to assert himself in the working world unless he had really worked on his self esteem (or had a girlfriend/wife like I headcanon who encouraged him to advocate for himself like this.)

I saw someone else do this but with less characters so decided to make my own. I was born in 2006 and watched this show when I was 8 years old and have loved it ever since. I live in a small town so it feels like a very realistic depiction of the types of people you might meet in the town where Iām from. I think my most controversial ranking is probably kim. Every time I see someone talk about her itās mostly hate, but I actually really loved her character since the beginning. Iām so curious to see how many of you guys agree/disagree with my rankings. I think another controversial ranking might be Harold. I mostly see love for his character and I do find him very funny but his parenting style is very obnoxious to me at times. I was also thinking of bumping Nick down cause he reminds me so much of ānice guysā Iāve met in real life who I normally tend to stay away from, but Iāve actually come to really love his character flaws.

A lot of people canāt handle an āopposites attractā relationship. It stresses them out, or they prove to be incompatible. But there are also people who thrive from it, a couple where you wouldnāt expect them to do well together or be together in the first place who actually grow quite a bit from the experience.

Iāve definitely met therapists or counselors in real life who I felt had made the wrong career decision (in addition to former therapists and counselors.)
We could also discuss this as a general thing, like who you think ended up in something that was wrong for them.

Married in her twenties, had a kid or two with and later on ended up divorced from because there were too many issues between the two of them.
I had always kind of felt that that was going to happen for Lindsay. She has a crush on Daniel at the start of the series and her relationship with Nick seems complicated (I donāt think she ever had a crush on him. It was very awkward for her and I always sensed that she was mostly just sort of going along with it initially because she didnāt want to hurt his feelings.) Lindsay, in series, doesnāt seem to be someone who has had a real boyfriend before, which is interesting because we hear multiple times that other characters think sheās nice looking (Barry seems to like her, and Neal, though he is Samās ānerdyā friend has a crush on her.) She doesnāt seem like she makes an effort to actively date in the series, though this may have started to change after she became an adult. In college she additionally would have had more exposure to guys who may have been on her level intellectually.
In my mind I could see a husband she ended up with - one she initially really clicked with who also tended to do well academically - expressing misogynistic beliefs later on in the marriage or having certain expectations of her that were a little more old fashioned even though she wouldnāt have expected it. I could see that causing tension in addition to perhaps an unexpected difference in parenting styles or disagreement about it.
What do you think?

How much do you think Nick got for $40? We paid $40 for quarters and $100 for ounces in the late 90s and early 00s, but this was set in 1980. The bag looked small for an ounce when he tossed it to Lindsay, and surely he didn't smoke more than a couple of joints before that. Plus, he said Lindsay only took one hit.

I was rewatching Adventureland and somehow that movie is tonally the closest thing I have seen to Freaks and Geeks
Sadly the only thing that comes close. What movie or show is that for you?
Not in quality but in spirit and tone

I agree with the show creator that Kim likely would have become a teen parent, and ended up a single mother. I imagine money would have been tight for her especially given how her mother was, so if she ended up having any more kids later on in life I think sheād have ended up with no more than two. I think sheād have been a negligent parent and likely ended up being abusive herself even though she wouldnāt have intended for things to be this way. I donāt think sheād have married.
Nick, Iām not sure about. He seems to have a lot of emotional issues that I think would have kept him from having a successful relationship, and if the show had continued I think Sara would have found out that he still had feelings for Lindsay, and I donāt think theyād have lasted because of it. I feel like heās the kind of guy who would have had bad luck in relationships.
Iāve always seen Sam marrying an extrovert. Iād like to think that to balance out his anxious personality, he ends up with someone who is calmer and more in the moment - they have fun together but also balance each other out. She helps him learn to enjoy life a little bit more and take risks, but isnāt abrasive and finds a way to encourage him to work on being more assertive without hurting his feelings like Cindy would have. They have two kids, Sam would be overwhelmed with three.
I think Lindsay married and had one or two children. For some reason I feel like she never quite finds the one though - I think Samās marriage actually ends up being more successful even though it may be unexpected, and Lindsay is married for some time but they ultimately have too many issues to work out and go their separate ways. She and her husband definitely wouldnāt have lasted after their kids became adults (though I donāt know whether or not I think Lindsay would stay in a marriage she was unhappy in to ākeep the family together.ā Jean is old fashioned but I actually donāt think sheād want that for her.)
Daniel was never going to get married, but had kids with different women.
I could see Ken proposing to Amy but I donāt have a prediction about whether or not theyād have lasted, and I could also see Ken initially being more hesitant to, not because he doesnāt like her but moreso because he doesnāt ābelieveā in marriage. If they talked and he learned that she wanted it I could see them getting together.
Millie would have married.
Cindy would have married.

I cannot be the only person who developed a weirdly intense crush on Harris even though he appears in the show for probably a total of less than 20 minutes. It saddens me that there is no Harris fanfic anywhere. Anyone else?

Itās actually something great they had done in regards to casting, though I think Lindsay is a good mixture of both 5not physically but in terms of personality.) Lindsay and Jean have similar voices but I think they have a similar values system, Lindsay is a less traditional Jean who pushes boundaries more.
But I see Haroldās competitiveness in Lindsay. I had never noticed this before.

These are mine:
-Upon rewatch (Iām actually rewatching right now) Iām starting to think that Lindsay isnāt as smart as I had always thought. She is very good at math and she clearly isnāt ādumbā - I actually donāt even dislike the character and never have - but I notice more now than I did before that she gets herself into risky, difficult situations a lot just by hanging out with the freaks. She of course is exploring and experimenting more because of her struggles with depression/her epiphany about grandma, but she stresses herself out a significant amount trying to impress a group of people who she likely wouldnāt have been friends with in a few years. I knew someone who was like this in high school - very good at math, considered nice looking by peers - and that person, though they did not go on to do poorly, didnāt end up doing as well as anticipated. This is someone who some of us thought had immense, immense potential, and their mother did very well. They didnāt do poorly at all. But ended up doing more normally than expected. I could see it being similar for Lindsay, that she ends up in social work or psychology - I could see her as a social worker after her experience with Kim - and doesnāt āstruggleā financially but does pretty normally.
-I was shocked to find out that this was an unpopular opinion but even though I have more sympathy for him now (somewhat, because heās a high schooler with what seems to be an abusive father) but I have never been a fan of Nick, and I donāt necessarily have a problem with it in terms of character development but I also never liked the nick/lindsay relationship and was surprised so many people on tumblr liked it. I mean, everything about it is so awkward, and Iāve always thought it was so clear that Nick wasnāt Lindsayās best match. I donāt think Daniel was either, but itād have been interesting to watch even though itād have felt kind of ātypicalā (good girl with the bad boy, good girl likely would have made a good impression on the bad boy, etc.) I think itās obvious that Lindsay wouldnāt have had a successful relationship with any freak though. She was always going to outgrow them at some point after high school.
-Nick in general is really weird and I wouldnāt like that guy if I met him in real life.
-Lindsay wouldnāt have made for a great parent. I donāt think sheād have been an abusive one, but I could see her being negligent in the sense of being too lax with her kids as they grew older, like by the time that they were in high school. I could see her wanting to give her kids, at least her eldest, the experience she felt she didnāt have in high school. I donāt think sheād necessarily be straight up negligent though, I could see the negligent ones being Kim, Daniel, and Nick - I think Lindsay would be able to financially support the kids with whoever she had married, whereas I donāt see that being the case for any of the freaks (and Daniel would not be an involved or active father, just in general.) This is actually one Iām not as sure about so if you have counter thoughts here Iād love to hear about them. I think Samās main issue would just be helicopter parenting/anxiety.
-Kim wasnāt likely to be successful after high school. Iāve seen some on this sub who had high hopes for her and I donāt agree. Not because I think sheās incapable, but moreso because I think that her abusive home situation would have kept her from advancing. Especially since I agree with the show creator that a teen pregnancy would have been likely.
-Iāve always maintained that Daniel liked Lindsay back a tad bit, but just not enough to leave Kim. Returned the attraction, yes. Had wondered about it briefly, sure. I think he was amused by her status as a āgood girlā and he seemed to be impressed by the fact that she was a mathlete. I think Daniel is also the type who would have felt that Lindsay was too good for him deep down inside

As much as I love "The Little Things," and think it has possibly the most well plotted finale of any F/G episode, I do feel like it kinda clashes with the tone of the series. What started as a grounded story about everyday Highschool kids suddenly has the main character butting heads with the literal vice president of the country while the school guidance counselor is stuck in an SNL style skit with a secret service agent. An amazing episode when viewed in a vacuum but it kinda clashes with the rest of the show.
I guess the writers were probably thinking, "Screw it, we're already cancelled, let's do something wacky."
I once knew a show that did something wacky. You know what happened to it...?

The show would literally be the exact same without Seth Rogenās character, Ken. Heās pretty much useless and adds nothing to the show. Iām honestly surprised heās in the opening credits and Busy Phillips is left out, it should be the other way around. I know a lot of people are going to point out his storyline towards the end with his relationship with Amy, but honestly I feel like the writers added that just to give Ken a storyline because he was the only one who hadnāt hadnāt one yet.
