Flight Simulator 2024 SU7 in a nutshell..
SU7 in a nutshell: months of waiting, and we get a few decent fixes, some SDK/dev improvements, a memory leak fix… and National Championship Air Races, because apparently that was the burning issue killing MSFS 2024.
Still no proper traffic overhaul, no serious LOD rework, no meaningful VRAM/performance breakthrough, no major UI overhaul, and no native fix for obvious stuff like glass-cockpit DLSS ghosting.
Meanwhile, random community developers keep releasing fixes and QoL features that somehow manage to solve problems Asobo has been staring at for ages.
But hey — AIR RACES is here!
Another Sim Update, another reminder that the community seems to understand what flight simmers actually want better than the people building the sim.
EDIT: they suspended my account on their forums. Because I gave too much critisim..

Also they broke the drag model. so there's that.

u/Cosmic_Ray_The_Proto 21h ago
Oh shit what do you mean by that?
16
u/ToulouseMaster 21h ago
the flightmodel is broken right now. they are putting a hotfix in place. but drag is decreasing faster than its supposed to with altitude. it breaks every single plane

24
u/FewScholar4361 21h ago
But we’ve got a wrong drag coefficient now. You do air races in every plane, as they all overspeed.. isn’t that awesome?

You thought it would be different this time? I'm just thankful that the independent modders exist 🙏

u/AlexisFR 19h ago
Problem is, modders either make their addons paid or release their mods on Flighsim.to only (🤮)

It rlly makes you wonder what the hell they're working on all this time. It feels like nothing ever comes around from the updates...
14
u/calvintiger 21h ago
Knowing the corporate world, they probably spend 80% of their time "roadmapping" what they want to build for the next update, but never count all that planning time in the plan itself so they don't have any time left to actually implement anything before it's time to start planning the next one already.
1
u/18k_iron_sights 19h ago
"updated roadmap coming soon..." Lol, the previous roadmap doesn't exist anymore.
2
u/bdubwilliams22 20h ago
I commented this elsewhere here, but I think they’re not going to release any major updates / fixes in 2024 anymore. They’re likely saving those for the next version, whether that’s 2028 or 2029, who knows.
4
u/Mauzersmash0815 🇪🇺Airbus superiority 🇪🇺 20h ago
Well im definitely not gonna buy this AGAIN. And pay a cup of coffee for my addons again Fuck no

1
u/VehicleNo6581 16h ago
Are you looking at the right patch note? Cause i see a ton of stuff in there for only 2 months of work.
1
u/l3ubba 14h ago
To be fair to them, this sim was released two years ago. It is crazy to me that we expect developers to continue to release new features and updates for free this long after release. Not to be all “back in my day” but games used to be released and that was that. Any new features would be released as a paid DLC. I always wonder how developers afford to spend money on continuous development and improvements without charging? I assume it largely comes from marketplace transactions.
12
u/Chartreuse__Goose 21h ago
Surprised they are doubling down on air races - I thought nobody played them? They must have user data to see how people are using the sim. Must be someone's pet project at Asobo.
12
u/genbrien unable 21h ago
Must be the same someone that thinks that we need 15 192x/193x German planes as legends....
2
23
u/wrray 21h ago
MSFS is a game first and Microsoft will cater to those who play it for its gamey features (air races, stock aircraft, career mode). Have to accept where the money comes from despite how big the player base is for the simulation side of things unfortunately.
1
u/Training-Fig4977 2h ago
Microsoft's attachement to this sim is seeming like more and more of a curse. Denying features like Vulkan rendering or something like taxi cam implimentation just because of this obsession of being able to run all those features on Xbox too is insane.
Not to mention the focus on utter slop as you said
0
u/Swisskommando 16h ago
Nah nobody played the races and career stuff. I’m surrounded by people who just want to fly study level technical A to B flights in free flight mode. That’s just my own experience.

u/Improvement-Unusual 21h ago
might sound silly but would there be anyways for the xbox players to connect a external gpu to the xbox
3
u/jamvanderloeff 19h ago
Possible in theory sure, economically practical no, at microsoft's scale building an external GPU would be barely cheaper than just turning it into a whole new xbox model, and there's zero chance of microsoft approving a way to DIY it or have it done by a third party.

4
u/eracer1111 18h ago
I don't believe we'll ever see an improvement in LOD curves while they prioritize console performance.
I've said it over and over in the forum: They need to release multiple versions; one designed for consoles and low-end computers, and another for those of us who own more powerful systems. Obviously, they want to allow consoles to fly, but they're holding a lot of us back. It falls on deaf ears though...
11
u/lrargerich3 19h ago
Ah yes, the zealots moderators have completely ruined the forums, you can't be critic not even in a constructive way. The amount of damage these guys have done to the community removing a lot of very helpful users is enormous.
3
1
u/VehicleNo6581 17h ago
I dont think they ban anyone for making wishlist post or bug reports, if your not doing one of those, you are not making constructive critic, your just complaining.
Just go look at the latest drag bug report, where fenix litteraly has to explain to a random user that is complaining in no constructive way that it is useless because they dont understand how game dev studio work.
1
u/Training-Fig4977 2h ago
After a certain point you shouldn't expect people to be nice 24/7 when nearly 2 years after release you still keep constantly breaking an already flawed product for frankly stupid and unnecessary additions
1
u/VehicleNo6581 1h ago
Why are you playing msfs if it is flawed? You are because it is not flawed. It has bugs, like every other piece of software.
Your right tho, the best way to never have bugs is to never add anything new. But what a dumb point, imagine if msfs didnt add any new content or functionnality in 2 years. You would be crying.
How many hours have you spend in msfs?
Compare any other type of entertainement to the hours/$ ratio. I dont expect people to be nice, but i do expect people to understand what they are talking about before not being nice.
If it was that flawed or broken, people would be playing x plane instead of msfs. But your here instead of in the xplane sub, which tells me that you just want to complain to get reddit approuval.
41
u/VehicleNo6581 19h ago edited 16h ago
You got to be kidding right. SU6 came out august 13 2026. If you think that any dev team can overhaul huge part of their games or get 30% performance improvmeent on something as complex as a flightsim in 2 months, you have no idea how software works.
Community developpers do not have the same standard has the game dev have. They cant just put a bandaid to fix something that will work on part of the game, or only on PC.
Every changes that they make to traffic or weather or UI or any systems affects every addon, planes, airport ever created.
The DLSS glass cockpit fix use an external injector (ReShade) to redraw the cockpit glass non-upscaled.
To do this natively, the msfs graphic engine would need a second pipeline just to render the 2D glass cockpit un-scaled. This is not something that can be done easily or even at all on graphic as complex as msfs. Btw msfs already does something like that, its called reactive mask.
All features present on msfs24 need to be compatible with xbox msfs24, which reshade is not.
You dont understand how game dev works. None of it is easy to do.
And saying that community understand what flight simmers doesnt make any sense. More than 50% of the developpement of msfs is giving the ability to the community to implement whatever they want. Making modular system so that everyone can create airplanes, airports, performance modes is how you give the community what they want.
Because imagine if you were a xbox player, and you heard that the dev team just spend 2 months fixing the glass cockpit, but only for pc players because ReShade is not available on Xbox. Wouldnt feel nice.
Every game with mods always have the same complain from the communitys, why do the dev not implement this or that if modders can do that. And the answer is always the same, modders have different standard and limitation then the devs. Every user have different needs, and this is why modding is beautiful, not cause it replace the dev job but because it provides solutions for different type of users. Having the ability to fix the glass cockpit by rendering outisde of the internal graphic engine is not something that is easy to provide.
Msfs24 had shared cockpit developped natively when it came out, but the dev decided to not implement it because it is not up to their standard.
Edit: For people that think that this comment is coming from a MSFS bootlicker, its not. MSFS is bugged, but it is bugged because it is complex. And that complexity is what makes us play the game.
Its coming from someone that has worked on testing software for train and planes, that realised that mistake will happen, bugs will be present on the release not matter how much money or how important the project is.
Major roadblocks on software are often not what you think: Dev would love to release perfect code that has been tested for months, but they will often have manager who will push unfinished code to reach some milestone.
Dev are normal humans like us that have a 9-5. How much do you care about Mcdonalds or the hamburger that they sell when you work there? How often is the ice cream machine broken because employes didnt want to clean it? How oftendo you lazy out on some stuff at your job?
I can tell you that dev probably care less about the game then most reddit user do, and thats ok, cause their job is to do what their manager ask them (even when they do not agree with it). At the end of the day, they are here to make money to feed their family. But if i was a dev, opening the subreddit of msfs would legit make me rage with the amount of misunderstanding that there is.

DLSS not working properly with glass cockpits has been an issue since MSFS 2020 lol.
1
u/VehicleNo6581 1h ago edited 1h ago
Whats your point lol? DLSS has the same limitation on any game, small moving lines have ghosting. This is not because MSFS did something wrong, this is because DLSS has to litteraly invent new pixels.
Again if you are blaming msfs because of dlss, it just shows that you do not understand what you are complaining about lol.
Does TAA have any problem with the glass cockpit?
And if you are blaming DLSS, its just worst. Do you expect a technology that can litterally double your frame to not have any drawback?
Also, i legit never had any problem with glass cockpit using dlss. I dont even know what people are complaining about.
-6
u/mikpyt 18h ago
STANDARD? Buhaha. Don't talk to me about standards with these people. Multiplayer game where people communicate by crouching because it's all they can do, every update a dice roll for regressions
4
u/VehicleNo6581 18h ago
There is different type of standards. Standards as in being available to all users across all platforms.
Not saying they are perfect, but has someone who has worked on software half as complicated as MSFS 24, it always look easier from the outside.
And your comment just proves my point, do you know the amount of regression that would be introduced if the whole weather engine was redone. The amount of testing that is needed to provide huge game engine changes.
This is not something that can be done in 2 months. Its not like the patch notes list are empty like this guy is claiming.
The fact that the flight dynamic changed in this update shows that software will react in ways that are unpredictable when everything is complexe and linked together.
3
u/VehicleNo6581 17h ago
Lol mikpyt making some racist comment about french then blocking me. I live in Montreal, the third world largest aerospace hub in the world, if you had half a brain maybe, you would understand that me being french actually make sense if you work on actual airplanes software and not just complain all day.
2
u/arcalumis 17h ago
It should have been done from day one, it should have been done instead of that stupid career crap they released. It’s hound have been done instead of a ps5 version.
2
u/VehicleNo6581 17h ago
You see software is like going to the store. Your dad gives you 50$ and tells you that you have 30 min to get whatever you want.
Of course you would love to get everything from the store but its not possible, you either wont have enough time or enough money to do so.
So you choose what is more important. Maybe a random guy from reddit woll think that he knows what is the most important, but its often not true.
Add in the fact that the dad that gives you the money only has one thing in mind, how much profit he can make from your little trip to the store.
It quickly becomes evident that having a ps5 version is 1000 times more important for dad than making a reddit user happy.
Also, they did make the shared cockpit from day one, before ps5 was ever released and they realised that it was not possible to do it in a manner where people wouldnt complain. They are limited by different factor.
1
u/arcalumis 2h ago
I would say that the flight simming parts are the most important in a flight sim.
1
u/VehicleNo6581 1h ago
Exactly, so why is this guy saying that shared cockpit should have been done from day one if it would have affected the flight simming part of the game.
1
u/arcalumis 23m ago
Shared cockpit means many things though. Shared for the bulit in planes only or would it extend to all the third party ones as well? It should have been in from day 1 but I wouldn't assume we would have had shared cockpit in the Fenix for instance.
-2
u/mikpyt 17h ago
the problem is I'm not calling for weather overhaul or other major reworks. I'm realistic about this. But you bringing up standards is funny, MSFS is infamous, regularly guilty of screwing things up in updates at least as often as they improve things. There's a couple things that can serve as good arguments for your thesis and for asobo, but standards is not among them.
12
u/Pour-Meshuggah-0n-Me PMDG | iFly | Zibo | ToLiss 20h ago
It's clear they are phoning it in at this point. Maybe it's due to complacency or exhaustion, or a combination of both, but either way this update left a lot to be desired. With the resources they have at their disposal it truly boggles the mind. Does anyone actually care about the Air Races? I know i don't.
And then I look at what laminar research is able to accomplish with a very small team and limited resources, I just don't get it.
1
u/VehicleNo6581 17h ago
Did you know that msfs simmers who are looking for a hardcore simulation to fly from point a to b are actually a minority? There is way more people those air races missiong then people on a320 on vatsim.
0
u/VehicleNo6581 16h ago
Also what ressources lol? Asobo has around 200 dev (800 if you include the external dev that work on airplanes like inibuilds). Other games like COD, assassins creed, GTA, the division had 5000+ dev.

u/theoldar 19h ago
My VR performance has gone way down with SU7. Is anyone else seeing that? All my settings are the same, I have the latest DLSS and Nvidia driver.
9
u/DXBflyer 20h ago
I don't think 24 is going to get ANY further major overhauls or fixes. Especially weather.
That's going to be FS28 or whatever. I think 24 is near enough complete for them at this point. It'll be on to the next one soon.
5
u/Excellent-Nothing189 20h ago
It doesn't make sense to make a whole new sim though. History doesn't always repeat itself.
2
1
u/DXBflyer 17h ago
It won't be a whole new sim. It will be 24 with a different weather engine and probably some kind of AI integrated traffic.
That will be enough to call it FS2028 (or whatever it's called). It could be brought to us as a sim update in 24 but why bother? Sell it as a new game and make millions more off us all.
0
u/SamiDaCessna 19h ago
It does if people will buy it. Especially because it’s isn’t a whole new sim. Apart from a somewhat functional weather radar and a few visual improvements, 2020 and 2024 are pretty much identical
1
5
u/Remarkable-Goose-461 20h ago edited 19h ago
Remember when Asobo said 2020 planes would be compatible with 2024? I said “not a fucking chance” and got downvoted into oblivion. Turns out, I was 100% correct. Like half the planes I own still aren’t 2024 natively compatible and if they release 2028 with the shitshow 2024 is, fuck Asobo and Microslop. I’ll never give them a dime again. Sims need to be a stable platform for 3rd party devs to refine their aircraft into high fidelity aircraft. Our devs don’t need to be fucking chasing their tails trying to keep up on fucking Asobo breaking their planes and releasing new sims. What a shit developer/publisher combination.
3
u/michi098 19h ago
Thing is, a lot of us have spent some serious money on software add-ons like planes, scenery and so on. At this point, it’s going to take some serious convincing to make me move to the next version of MSFS. Especially if those add-ons won’t work as it happened from 2020 to 2024. I would be happy to pay $50 at some point for a massive MSFS upgrade for 2024 if it allowed me to keep my add-ons.

u/SamiDaCessna 19h ago
Sadly this community is far too quick to spend their money that it justifies asobo/microsoft to be more like EA and fifa with their release timelines

200,000lbs, my mistake I forgot a ton is 2000lbs not 1000, I usually use metric. So 100 tons. Either way, it wasn't at all surprising the tyres burst.

Yeah, I doubt it was because of criticism, it was probably the language you used.
no meaningful VRAM/performance breakthrough
The update did improve long haul performance.
4
u/Olorin135 19h ago
Agreed. I’m pretty active on the forums myself and see constructive criticism all the time and the mods allow it. As soon as someone gets overly combative or uses vulgar language, however, then the mods will shut you down pretty quickly (as they should).
3
u/machine4891 17h ago
Because I gave too much criticism..
On r Polska mods are doing frequent "event" by showcasing (anonymously) what is truly hidden behind all those "I was just politely asking and they banned me for nothing!". Turned out "politely" is synonymous to absolutely loaded slurs and insults these days, lol.
Not saying it is the OPs case but after all these years, I would be the most naive person on the planet if I took their word for granted.
5
u/ywgflyer 21h ago
They are hoping the community will engineer the fixes themselves for free so they don't have to spend their money on it. See also, things like FBW fixing the 320 in FS2020, WT fixing a bunch of default stuff in 2020, all for free.
2
u/bdubwilliams22 20h ago
I imagine they’re not going to release any big new improvements for 2024. They’re likely saving those for 2028/29 or whatever next version it is.
2
u/Extension_Meringue37 20h ago
Current gen consoles will always hold msfs 24 back. It will remain terribly optimized because they want the same build of a software as complex as a flight simulator to run in 3 different platforms. Less complex games can do it like BF6 because its so much smaller in scale and the devs can optimized almost everything.
1
u/Majortom_67 20h ago
Are we sure there's still room for VRAM improvement?
2
u/Remarkable-Goose-461 19h ago
VRAM improvements are going to be mandatory now that Nvidia stopped making 5090s. Guess 16 gigs is gonna be the max for us peasants unless you want to switch the driver crashing nightmare that are AMD GPUs.
1
1
u/machine4891 17h ago
You're seriously overestimating how many simmers are flying on 5090, even though some people here are indeed loaded. Besides, 5080 Super or whatever will release with 24 GB, 4090 also has that amount, same as AMDs 7900 XTX and 7900 XT has 20 GB.

Im gonna keep it real, i know nothing abiut this patch. Except for the fact i cant finish a single flight on FSEconomy now, cause it says i didnt use any fuel so it cancels the flight when I land. Seeing how i was using it just fine 2 days ago, it has to be because of the patch... right??

u/WillParchman 20h ago
I wanted to wait a bit before I made this determination, but MSFS has seriously opened the door for X-Plane over the last year or so. Like, wide open. And XP is charging through.
There was a period of time in the fat part of each bell curve after release of both 2020 and 2024 where you felt like momentum was just crushing XP, but I think Asobo has basically reached the limit of what it can do with its current engine within spec. The updates themselves tell you what they have, and there isn't much. Until it gets a major engine overhaul, which probably will never happen, MSFS just is what it is at this point. I'll still fly it but it no longer has a hammerlock on my attention.
XP is still janky visually in spots but has improved way, way more than MSFS over the last year+. I fired it up for the first time in a while recently and was blown away by how far it's come visually. And the planes have always felt better to fly, so that's still there as well.
I don't know that XP will ever take MSFS's GA throne, but Laminar is definitely moving way, way faster than Asobo is on the improvement curve, and they only seem to be speeding up.
2
u/CookiezFort Condor 2 Logo pls ty 18h ago
X-plane should've ran away with it when FSX was 5-6 years old. Unfortunately they couldn't. And I doubt they can capitalise on anything now
-4
u/Remarkable-Goose-461 19h ago
Xplane just needs better anti aliasing. Everything else is on par with or better than MSFS except for maybe photogrammetry, but even then you can fix that with orthophotos. The only reason I still have MSFS installed is most of my favorite planes are on MSFS only. I’d switch back to xplane in a heartbeat if planes I want came to xplane.
I’d also argue GA is better in xplane in a lot of ways than MSFS. Default airports in MSFS for example are total ass. With the scenery gateway in xplane, you can have nearly every single GA airport in NA handcrafted for free and with good performance.
3
u/WillParchman 19h ago
I don't really care about the airports for GA personally, you're just sitting on a bald patch of apron, not like you're even faced up to a terminal.
MSFS has objectively more going for it in the GA realm now that it has high level addons like the Black Square planes, A2A, GotFriends etc to pair with what is frankly a night and day better visual experience on the ground in every conceivable way. XP has better lighting and more cloud configurations, albeit worse AA on them. There are just way fewer tradeoffs in GA in MSFS, even the orthos with X-World Pro autogen fall way short of MSFS below 5,000 ft. And GA planes don't have the performance issues the airliners do, I can absolutely crank the LOD sliders and textures.
-4
u/Remarkable-Goose-461 18h ago edited 18h ago
Hate to break it to you, but black square addons aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. Not through the fault of the developer himself, but Asobos turbo prop simulation is total ass. I fly Caravans IRL and the power settings on the blacksquare are totally screwed up. Flight idle RPM in flight is WAAAY off because MSFS doesn’t simulate windmilling propellers correctly leading to WAAY too little drag on the prop at idle making landings way more floating and approaches much more slippery than the real aircraft. MSFS flight modelling is still awful. Also differential braking is still non existent in MSFS with fake nose wheel steering on a lot of aircraft like the diamonds and cirrus. IRL those aircraft have free castling nose wheels and the only way you can taxi is with differential braking. Again, totally unrealistic in MSFS.
And for default airports, I guess you don’t mind having wrong taxiways that don’t match diagrams and taxi lights in the middle of taxiways and runways LMAO
Blacksquare planes are great if you like fluff things like cabin temperature control and stuff, but I’m a meat potatoes guy. I like good flight models and good physics. Which xplane does much much better. For example Thranda planes have great flight models, great turbo prop simulations, and really good systems. They might not have all the bling of a blacksquare plane but they get the basics right. The Thranda caravan is nuts on the turbo prop simulations and don’t even get me started on how awful seaplane physics is in MSFS.
It’s like, do you want a racing game with realistic car physics or a racing game when you can play with the air conditioner lol

After watching V1’s stream yesterday in XP12 and this shit box of an update I’m really looking at XP. I’ll be honest I’m intimidated by the work that people say you have to put into it to get it to look like it did on his stream yesterday. For all the bad stuff about MSFS, the one thing it has is, it’s easy. At least for me. And I’m an idiot.
Plus, all the money I have sunk into MSFS.

See, not just that, they are actively making it harder for community to pitch in and fill the gaps because of moving towards walled garden marketplace ecosystem.
Luckily, human inventiveness isn't defeated so easiky, so we're still getting good community input. Asobo needs to realize they need to just let it happen, make it easier, not harder

It was pretty obvious in fs2020, I didn't even buy fs2024. I have maybe 20-30hours in Fs2020 that's how unplayable it was to me. It's a game with nice graphics, doesn't feel like a sim.
I've been enjoying x-plane 12 for a few years now. It has such QOL features as FSX keyboard layout toggle. Not even fs2020 have that, just why? Let me at at least have the possibility to toggle one setting and get FSX keyboard defaults.

I just installed XP12, and was stunned that my second and third displays can just be set as mirrors for the cockpit displays. No configuration or third-party apps, just click and select the device, done

It ofcourse falls behind in graphics man but everything else makes up for it, been a die hard microsoft flight guy since 95, tried x plane a couple years ago couldn't fathom the graphical downgrade but I was in the same boat as dcs world and falcon bms. Been a die hard since falcon 4.0 and lomac days but just like the two I mentioned first the simulation will always overcome the little things x plane or falcon bms lack compared to dcs and msfs.
If you look on the x plane sub some one just asked about a plugin recommendation so many good comments in there pointing new comers to some must haves
