Congratulations, I'm happy for your experience. I tried to introduce my 12 year old to the series and he couldn't even get through the first episode. Especially disappointing because I've loved Firefly ever since it first came out. His brother (6) is even named after one of the characters, so maybe I'll give it another shot in a few years

Even when I was 20 the first episode was kind of hard to watch the first time. The first two times I didn't finish it because it didn't grab me right away. For all of Fox's screw ups I kind of understand why they didn't want to lead with the pilot, it's a very slow burn and more serious/moody than most of the series.

Hard to believe now since it's still my favorite show, but I get why a 12 year old wouldn't be captivated at first.

The first episode is kinda long and introduces a lot of elements.

I can kinda understand why Fox thought that "Train Job" was a better first episode.

I’m just started rewatching and trying to get my 20yo and 23yo sons to watch. It’s so good.
