ATM error gave me someone’s $2000

So about 3 weeks, I went to my local Bank of America using the drive thru ATM to deposit some cash. I put my card in, clicked deposit cash and tried putting my money in. At this point however, the ATM screen froze and the machine was stuck and not taking the money. I tried clicking cancel, tapping the screen and nothing. This was after 5:00pm so no one was in the building, I waited for about 5-10 minutes and drove off with the screen frozen. This has happened before a year ago and nothing has happened from it.

I drive off and go to Barnes and nobles and I check my account before purchasing a book, but now I see that there is a check deposit for $2200. Obviously this wasn’t mine and there was someone behind me waiting to use the ATM so I can only conclude the machine glitched and he was able to deposit their check but went into my account. I didn’t move it or anything and called Bank of America around 10:30pm and spoke with customer service. They took all the info down and said they made a report and that was it.

I wanted to be sure everything was fine so I went into the same local Bank of America a few days later to make them aware of the situation. I speak with the teller and he says he’s never seen this before and that the check was cleared and processed. I wait to speak with one of the managers but the teller tells me the manager said, everything should be taken care of just wait a few days.

It’s been 3 weeks now and the money is still sitting there. How long does this process usually take? I’m not really comfortable with this money sitting there and having to track and make sure I’m not spending the money on accident.

Understanding Foreign Bank Operations: Representative Offices vs. Full-Service Banks

Hey everyone, I was just attending a finance lecture about how foreign banks expand into international markets and wanted to share a key distinction the professor made.

A representative office is mainly there for market research, acting as a liaison, and promoting the bank’s services. It doesn't operate as a full-service bank; for example, it generally cannot take deposits or provide the same range of financial products.

Its permitted activities depend entirely on local regulations in that country.

Have you ever worked with or studied the role of these offices in global finance? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Mom (in her 70s in CO) is netting $300k from selling her home. Where is the safest place to put it?

My mother is selling her home and will net about $300k. She has no debt and gets roughly $8k/month combined from Social Security and her retirement income, so she's covered on day-to-day expenses without touching this money. She wants some of it set aside in a HYSA and the rest put away in a safe investment where it is still earning interest but isn't a risky investment.

Needing to know what is the right direction to go

Yeah, i’m kinda in a fucked situation. I owe on two loans, paying on a car accident ($165 & $90 biweekly, the one $165 is almost done though), $1K credit car debt, school loans, and just bills in general. I’m making enough money but it seems like i spend it on dumb shit. Last month it said i spent $2.5K and didn’t feel like it. I really wanna get better handling my financials but I don’t know where to start. I tried apps but they really don’t work for me because i just ignore them. Should I talk to someone? Is there maybe a book? I don’t know. I wanna get better and not feel broke. It’s my own fault and I wanna change

How does your company handle the many different type of side letters from LPs ?Profession Insights

Hello, that's one of the hot topic these days at my company. I work for an asset manager (that only does active management) and we get a ton of side letters every year. We are working on a solution to try and automate as much of the reports as possible but I dont really see that working, we would need to create code for all the different types.

So im curious, how do they do it in other companies ? Did you manage to automate this process or is it all manual labor ?
