Roasted tortang talong, veggie brown rice, and pinoy ensalada with spicy vinegar sauce.
I miss the Philippines and my family, but I don't think I'll make it home for awhile.
At least I can still reminisce on the flavors of home.

Inabodo ko muna ung baboy
Pinakuluan sa onting tubig na may isang pirasong bawang, suka, asin, paminta hangang matuyo tsaka prinito? (Sa sarili nyang mantika) then nag gisa (bawang at subuyas)
Tsaka ko nilagay ung sitaw at tinimplahan ulit
4 tbsp toyo and water

Chao fan:
• X days old rice (multi grain? rice. Nag sasaing ako good for 3 to 4 days then nirref ko lang (naka portion na syempre per meal. Mga 3 yrs ko ng ginagawa)
• Ground Beef & pork (alam mo ung "life hack" ng pang living alone, ung naka zip lock sa freezer. Ganon. Di ko alam specifically ilang grams. Pero baka mga 2 -3 tbsp each siguro)
Pepper, salt (onti lang tatlong butil lol)
• Pag brown brown na (basta 🤣) put 1 tsp oyster sauce.
• gisa - bawang sibuyas
• Onting carrots (may nakahiwa na ko. Nasa freezer lang. Hahaha)
• itlog
Spam... airfried
Craving satisfied. 🤣

White and round, roughly marble to large-grape size. nakabalot sa parang tinted transparent wrapper. soft parang dense cotton but not airy. hindi siya vanilla or coconut smell. pasalubong lang yun sa akin. Looked like macapuno balls or those powdered snowball cookies from Baguio, but it wasn’t a cookie. I once bought Baguio snowball cookies thinking I’d finally found it, but nope 😭 Does this sound familiar to anyone? parang 20 years ago ko yun nakain pero di ko pa rin mahanap anywhere huhu Photos or names would really help.

Hello po.
I'm a culinary student curious about one particular thing in Filipino cooking. We made tahdig (Persian rice) in class last night and main goal was to be able to form a layer of crispy/crunchy/slightly scorched rice at the bottom of the pan - tutong.
Masarap naman yung ginawa nang grupo namin, pero hindi kami naka form nang tutong. I jokingly wanted to give the "excuse" of spending my entire life trying to avoid tutong. Honestly ang unang gusto kong sabihin ay Pilipino ako (I'm in Los Angeles and the only Pilipino in class) and we avoid tutong because it's not exactly something that's sought after in our cuisine...
Except I realized that ang experience ko diyan ay limited sa bahay namin and I didn't want to give the rest of the class incorrect/false generalization of Filipino cuisine. Tutong is not bad and is normal, but it's not something our household made a point to make. If anything, having tutong means something didn't quite go right while making the rice. Tinanong ko din yung pinsan ko at sabi niya ganun din sa kanila.
I'd like to get opinions from a broader audience, so I can have a better understanding of tutong's place in Filipino cuisine. I'm also interested if it's a regional thing or generational thing. I have some sort of memory na one of the major reasons to get a rice cooker was to not end up with tutong.
Salamat po.
