Complaints Owlcrate August Adult - not enough books

Apparently they didn’t have enough books to send to people who subscribed. I got an email that I was refunded for it and was super confused. I’ve also been a subscriber for years. Just got an email saying they cancelled the latest orders, but how could I be one of the latest orders if I’ve been subscribed for years? I was really really excited for this book so I’m really upset I’m not going to get it.

What do we think? I hate it quite thoroughly especially compared to Fairyloot but special call out to the bare cover which offends me the most. I've also started to hate hidden fore-edge designs, and for the life of me I don't know what this one is depicting

Discussion Scary Stories Art Comparison!

Thumbnail

Litjoy Crate’s Edition Omnibus Edition of Scary Stories Art comparison to the first edition hardcovers!

The art on the new edition has a diamond pattern across the art. I can’t tell if it’s intentional or if it’s an editing oversight made during the production of the book. One of the art pieces is upside down too. But that is not unique to the Litjoy edition, all reprints of the second book have ā€œThe Voiceā€ art work printed upside down and it was never corrected in future print files.

Like all the reprints, the original cover art is not included.

Other Book Box Jemlin and Grim Gates Drops

Not sure how many Jemlin fans are here, but I wanted a space to vent a little and see if anyone else feels the same way.

I’m a huge Jemlin fan and have been supporting her for years, so I was genuinely excited when she decided to do her own thing and created Grim Gates. But almost a year later, I’m honestly getting so over it.

In the beginning, Jemlin and Autumn made it clear that they wanted to space out their drops so people would have time to plan and budget for them. But that clearly hasn’t been the case for months now. We’re getting TWO boxes every single month, and these aren’t just $30-$40 boxes with one book. Each drop is easily $100+, and that’s before you factor in her events, which have their own book and card exclusives.

It’s just exhausting trying to keep up with the sheer volume of books AND cards she’s releasing at this point. I genuinely cannot keep up, and it’s becoming increasingly frustrating because it feels like the complete opposite of what she’s said about wanting more people to have access to her art. How are more people supposed to enjoy and collect your art when the sheer volume and frequency of releases are pricing people out of the market?

And I know someone will inevitably say that I don’t need to buy everything, and you’re absolutely right. But the thing is, I WANT to buy everything. I love her art, I’ve supported her for years, and I WANT to continue supporting her and collecting her work. That’s the whole point! But when you’re suddenly expected to spend $300–$500 a month just on Jemlin, it becomes completely unsustainable.

I have other artists I want to support, other books and authors I want to buy, and other special editions I want to collect. I cannot spend my entire monthly book budget on one artist, no matter how much I love her work. And with the current economy, the sheer amount of money being asked of collectors every single month feels incredibly tone-deaf.

What makes it even more disappointing is that I remember people asking earlier this year whether there would be a drop during a particular month, and Autumn specifically said there wouldn’t be one because they wanted to space out orders and give people time to plan accordingly. So what happened to that? Was that just a temporary thing that lasted all of 30 days? Because ever since then, it feels like we’ve been getting massive drops every single month between the online sales and event exclusives.

I understand that Jemlin is trying to grow her business and make as much money as she can while her art is in demand. I’m not faulting her for wanting to be successful. But there’s a difference between running a successful business and releasing so much product, so frequently, that even the people who love your work and WANT to support you can no longer afford to keep up.

At this point, it almost feels like collectors are being forced to choose between spending all their disposable income on Jemlin or missing out on things they genuinely want. And that’s a really crappy position to put your most dedicated supporters in. It starts to feel like, ā€œEither spend all your extra money on me or miss out,ā€ and honestly, that’s just sad.

I’m not saying she should stop releasing things or that people shouldn’t be allowed to buy as much as they want. I just wish there were more breathing room between releases, especially when each drop costs so much. I want collecting her art to remain something exciting that I look forward to, not something that leaves me stressed about my budget and constantly feeling like I’m falling behind.

Discussion Fairyloot Reprint Ideas

With Fairyloot doing the recent reprints, what other ones do you guys think are likely that they would do? I know they reprint the ones that were done with their publishing company but I don't know what those are.

Also what books do you want them to reprint but they probably won't?

Mine would be the Cruel Prince series and Unearthly trilogy

MegaThread Weekly Burn Book

Welcome toĀ r/fairyloot's Weekly Burn Book!

What gossip do you have this week? Who is behaving badly? Share it with us! Remember to follow r/fairyloot rules when posting.

  1. No off-site usernames or personal information.
  2. Contact customer service before posting about damaged books.
  3. Waitlist, invite, damage & shipping updates have their own separate megathreads.
  4. No B/S/T outside of the semi-monthly B/S/T thread.
  5. No unmarked spoilers.
  6. Be civil & respectful.

The following types of posts must be posted to the Weekly Burn Book.

  1. Scalpers. ALL scalping posts must be on the Weekly Burn Book post. While most scalping posts are made in good faith, some people are using it as a way to karma farm, and we want to reduce that. Some of the posts are low effort, and the sheer amount of them can turn people off of this sub.
  2. You may post about AI in this thread, including speculation. Do not post unverified information or guesses as fact, and remember that false accusations can hurt very real people and their careers. You may ask "Is this AI?"; however, be cautious when saying "John Smith's books are all AI!" Any verifiable AI (as in the author/artist/publisher has admitted AI elements are present) can posted separately from the Burn Book.
  3. I finally quit X Book Box! type posts. These have increased (mostly due to the large size of the sub).

These kinds of posts aren't required to go on this post, but it's a good spot for venting with others.

  1. Just general, minor complaining can go here, too. Frustrated with poor customer service? Tired of a certain book box’s lackluster designs? This is a great spot for it.
  2. Hate the FL queue and just want to talk about how janky it is? Let us know about it!

Question Spoiler-filled recap of Bonesmith? Spoiler

Can anyone give me a spoiler-filled recap of Bonesmith by Nicki Pau Preto? I'm finally ready to read Ghostsmith, but I read Bonesmith more than a year ago, am struggling to remember details, and don't want to reread it. šŸ˜
