I love Victorian Age comics because each is different. There was no set format so a lot of experimentation happened. This is The Story Of Hans The Swapper, a fold out comic (1865).

Ship newsletter for the USAT Edmund B. Alexander, 1948

This is a newsletter prepared by and for the passengers of the USAT Edmund B. Alexander. The ship transported the families of service members between Yokohama and Seattle. Neat piece of WWII history IMO, not sure how many of these survived.

I own this so can share the full 14 page publication if there's any interest!

Found this tucked between the pages of an old paperback I picked up at a thrift store

The owner of the thrift store told me the box of books this came from was donated from an estate sale after an older gentleman passed away. There’s no name or date on the photo, but I can’t help wondering if she might have been his wife.

I keep thinking about him carrying this photo around in his book, coming across it every time he opened it. Maybe he liked having her close, even in the smallest way. There’s just something so bittersweet and beautiful about finding an ordinary piece of someone’s life like this, but you know you’ll probably never know the full story behind it

I found this football/game program of my dad's from when he was a junior in high school in 1973. He was #51.

Oof. A little rough and a little fragile but still very cool. Almanacs were among the first publications to feature comics. This is a very early one. The American Comic Almanac 1833 (released in late 1832).

Another copy of Comic Book Magazine from February 26, 1941. This was an insert in the Chicago Sunday Tribune. Like the Sunday Funnies, but bound at the spine.

Very tough to find later Platinum Age comic. Little Orphan Annie And The Big City Gunmen (Whitman Big Nickel Book #1010, 1937). This came out a year before Action Comics #1 came out and completely changed the industry.

Any idea what this vintage water polo card/graphic signed "URTZ" is from?

Hey everyone
It shows a water polo layout with tactical lines, players in red and blue caps, and features both historical Hungarian flags and Nazi-era German flags in the corners. It's signed "URTZ" in the top right, which looks like the work of the Hungarian graphic artist Ottó Urtz.
Has anyone seen something like this before? I'm curious if it's a desk blotter, a board game insert, or something pulled from an old sports publication. Any info on the era or context would be super helpful!

Found inside a massive old book at St. Vinnie’s

Went thrift shopping at St. Vinnie’s yesterday and they had a great old book section! I found an awesome 1960s plant ID guide with 400 paintings of every plant mentioned in the book, which I purchased. I also found this monster of a book, A Grammar of the Greek New Testament, in the Light of Historical Research, from I think the 1930s. The prologue said the author had been working on it for 26 years. I didn’t buy it, but I did find a page with notes inside on the back of a piece of mail from 1972!

One of my favorite pieces. Saturday Evening Post from February 23, 1935. The SEP frequently ran single panel comics, including this issue with the first appearance of Marge’s Little Lulu.

1932 farm implement and household item catalog Bangor, Maine

They sold asbestos brake lining and asbestos bathtub surrounds, there are arsenic and lead chemicals for killing stuff. Being very honest, the catalog notes that the Morgan Spading Harrow is "not particularly attractive or handsome".

There was a sheet from another business's notepad inside the book that notes something about the Heatilator (which is an item in the catalog).

The catalog came from an estate sale (in California) where the owner collected tractors and farm implements, though apparently didn't use them for plowing.

It's a towel, so not sure it is a considered ephemera, but found it when cleaning out my deceased mother's house. She had bought it in the 1970s. I was surprised it still existed.
