Why would someone use this over Dolphin? Genuinely asking, I know competition is always good but are there any advancements this emulator provides over Dolphin?

They've answered this question a few times in the previous posts about Gecko here on the subreddit, I’ll see if I can find the link and edit here.

Edit: I found the link to the first one: https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/1tfu45a/comment/omfl13g/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/rust/comments/1tfu3s3/gecko_a_new_gamecube_and_wii_emulator_is_now/

Gecko aims to offer a playable and accurate experience for the average user. However, Gecko is also tailored to reverse engineers and homebrew developers. It's packed with tons of goodies that aren't mentioned in the above list! To name a few more (if you're not interested skip ahead!):

Lua scripting

An advanced yet beautiful debugger

Rich logging system

Symbol parsing from ELFs and IDA Pro databases

RenderDoc captures with tons of debug markers

Multitool to decode/encode IPLs, extract DVD filesystems, disassemble PPC/DSP code

Recording audio to .wav files

Built-in diagnostics for JIT and GX (GPU)

Reddit messed up the text formatting, so also check the link for the full/original comment. Gecko seems to have matured quite a bit since then, so congratulations u/ioncodes!

I'm going to emphasize this in this crosspost as I feel like this improvement will be particularly interesting in this community: Gecko doesn't need any system files anymore. The GameCube IPL uses an HLE variant now and the DSP now defaults to Dolphin's replacement roms :)

How does this compare with Dolphin?

And can do mods? Is that the take away?
