HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR FLIGHT HAS STARLINK
Check your plane's equipment number [tail number or registration number, Eg: A6-EEE] on Flightradar by typing your flight number [eg: EK201] in search bar. The number will be shown within 24 hours prior to departure or sometimes just a few hours, until then it will be shown as 'Unknown/ Not available'.
Cross check it against the list below:
*Unofficial list of registration/tail number of Star Link equipped flights
The flight leaving at 4am the next day has the tail number assigned
ONE CAN NEVER PLAN TO BE ON A STARLINK FLIGHT because its tough to say which route has this installed because the flight get used over different sectors for Example: A6-EEN, A380 did:
03 Sep EK185 Dubai → Barcelona
02 Sep EK751 Dubai ↔ Casablanca
01 Sep EK751 Dubai ↔ Casablanca
31 Aug EK377 Dubai → Bangkok
30 Aug EK376 Dubai → Bangkok,
29 Aug EK029 Dubai ↔ London
28 Aug EK925 Dubai ↔ Cairo
27 Aug EK763 Dubai ↔ Johannesburg
Emirates is generally generous, but if the flight is full, they become the "baggage police." Your allowance depends entirely on your class of service.
Economy Class
1 Bag up to 7kg
Max Dimensions: 55 x 38 x 20 cm
Premium Economy
1 Bag up to 10kg
Max Dimensions: 55 x 38 x 20 cm
Business & First Class
2 Pieces: One briefcase plus either one handbag OR one garment bag.
7kg each (14kg total).
Briefcase: 45 x 35 x 20 cm | Handbag: 55 x 38 x 20 cm | Garment bag: 20cm thick when folded.
💡 The Regional Exceptions:
India: You are strictly limited to one piece of carry-on. No "bag + laptop" games here; the total size cannot exceed 115cm (L+W+H).
Brazil: If you're flying from Brazil, you get a boosted 10kg limit even in Economy.
🧳 Checked Luggage
Emirates uses two different systems. Which one you get depends on your route.
1. The Weight Concept (Most of the World)
Used for flights between Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
How it works: You can check in as many bags as you want, as long as the total weight is within your ticket limit.
Allowances: * Economy: 20kg to 35kg (depending on Special, Saver, Flex, or Flex Plus).
Business: 40kg.
First: 50kg.
The Rule: No single bag can ever weigh more than 32kg.
2. The Piece Concept (Americas & Africa)
Used for flights to/from the US, Canada, and Africa.
Economy: 1 or 2 pieces (usually 23kg each). Check your fare—"Special" is often just 1 bag.
Business/First: 2 pieces (up to 32kg each).
The Rule: Total dimensions of each bag (L+W+H) must not exceed 150cm.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is the checked baggage limit 23kg or 32kg? I’m confused.A: This is the big one. On the Piece Concept (Americas), each bag is capped at 23kg for Economy. If you are 24kg, you pay a fee. On the Weight Concept (Europe/Asia), you can have a 30kg limit, but no single bag can be over 32kg.
Q: Can I "pool" my baggage with my family?A: Yes! If you are on the same booking (PNR), Emirates allows families to pool their total weight. If two people have 30kg each, you can bring one 32kg bag and one 28kg bag.
Q: What is the deal with Power Banks and "Smart Bags"?A: Power banks must be in hand luggage only. Smart Bags are only allowed if the battery is removable. If the battery is built-in and can't be taken out, the bag is banned from the flight.
Q: Are liquids still restricted to 100ml?A: Yes. Even with new scanners in some airports, Emirates still requires the standard 100ml containers in a single, clear, resealable 1-litre plastic bag.
Q: What about sports gear (Golf clubs, Skis)?A: Sports equipment is usually accepted as part of your standard baggage allowance. If it’s within your weight/piece limit, there’s no extra charge.
🕵️ The "Reddit" Factor (Strictness)
The Laptop Loophole: In Economy, you are technically allowed a "small handbag or laptop bag" in addition to your 7kg bag. However, if your "laptop bag" is a massive tactical backpack, they will count it as your main piece.
When do they weigh? If you check in at a kiosk, you might skip the scale. If you go to a human agent, they usually weigh everything. Expect a "Cabin Approved" tag if you’re boarding in DXB.
The Gate Scale: On full flights, agents often stand at the boarding gate with a portable scale. If you look like you’re struggling to carry it, you’re likely getting caught.
💎 Pro-Tips for the Savvy Traveler
Skywards Status: Silver, Gold, or Platinum members get extra weight (12kg to 20kg extra) or an additional piece for free.
Buy Early, Save Big: If you know you're over, buy extra weight online at least 4 hours before your flight. You can get a 50-60% discount compared to airport prices.
The "Jacket" Hack: If you're 1kg over in your carry-on, put your heaviest hoodie or jacket on while checking in. They can't weigh what you're wearing!
The "Squish" Test: Is your carry-on bulging? If it doesn't fit easily in the overhead bin, a gate agent will spot it.
The App Check: Open the Emirates App -> Manage Booking. It will tell you exactly if you are "Weight" or "Piece" concept.
Liquids & Batteries: Put your power bank and liquids at the top of your bag for easy access at security.
Found this recently, brought back a lot of memories. Adding a couple more photos in the Comments, including my logged flights. It was so cool when the flight attendant would take it up to the cockpit for the pilot to sign.
Emirates in the late 90s was such a vibe, even though I was young I remember it distinctly.
Haven't had an opportunity to fly Emirates since, I hope to again one day soon!!
My parents are Indian nationals and USA Greencard holders, and will have a 8 hour layover from 7:30pm to 4:30am next month. They want to see the Burj Khalifa and the surrounding mall.
I'm aware there is a 48 hour pre-arranged VISA, but I am unsure of one clause.
Clause 4 states:
A confirmed hotel reservation for the duration of your stay in the UAE or a valid tenancy contract with your family member’s name (father, mother, brother or sister) if staying with them on your visit.
---
They will not be staying in a hotel though. Is there another way I'm missing?
Hi! I’m travelling in December with my husband and a baby who will be around 4 months old. we’ve never travelled with an infant before and I’m a little nervous and want to make it as smooth as possible
We are moving to Dubai so we’ll just need 1 way tickets.
Flight is around 7 hours and these are the pricing options (all in gbp, totals, 1 way)
Economy Flex 1150gbp
Expnomy Flex plus 1850gbp
Premium economy 2400gbp
Business 6500gbp
I’m currently thinking PE as would welcome a little more space, obviously business would be ideal but it does feel expensive for a 7h flight. It’s not out of the realms of what we can afford if you all think it’s the best option, but we aren’t in a financial situation where we can toss 7k a flight without wincing/ thinking about it very carefully.
We would probably need to buy extra baggage anyway - PE gives 35kg each for the adults (not sure what it gives for the infant) but I would probably buy an extra 30 regardless.
I can’t seem to find the prices for extra baggage online, does anyone know how it works? Route is London to dxb.
Looking for advice on cabin class and also if anyone has tips on infant travel or experiences on emirates with infant travel I would be really grateful.
Many thanks in advance!
Edit: just to add, I’ve never travelled PE before, only economy and once business (for business). So if someone thinks the added comfort of PEisn’t worth it over economy then please do let me know!
I have booked tickets for wife and daughter (2 years), who are scheduled to fly from Auckland to Islamabad. They have a 16 hours transit in Dubai. They are both Pakistani passport holders.
I only noticed the ticker on the Emirates site regarding suspension of transit visas for Pakistani nationals after making the payment.
What are the realistic options for their transit, apart from the airport hotel which I have heard is very expensive?
Flying Emirates premium economy from Sydney to Dubai using Qantas points. I am looking to understand what would be the cost of a cash upgrade to Business Class?
Also, is it cheaper to upgrade at Baggage Drop / Check-In Gate or when inside the plane?
Edit: almost a week to go and can see 20+ business seats empty.
Is it possible to change the date of a flight for one person in a booking of two people on the app? The flight is available and everything but i only want to change the date for one person by using the app and was wondering if it’s possible or if i should call the customer service.
Hi! I need your help. It's my first time to book Emirates and my second name is in small letter when i am about to pay. Is this okay or it would cause an issue?
I’m an Indian passport holder with a valid Saudi iqama. I have an Emirates issued transit visa and a confirmed Emirates flight from Riyadh to Dubai and Dubai to Chennai on the same day.
Due to the ongoing flight disruptions in Riyadh, I’m considering travelling to Dubai by bus instead.
Can I use my Emirates transit visa to enter the UAE through the Saudi land border? Has anyone done this before?
Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!
I had a booking from Uber for Emirates which covered from London to Trv via Dubai and return starting at 2nd Oct 11:55 pm from London.
After waiting at the boarding gate for almost 2 hours, they said the flight has been cancelled.
Collected back the checked in bag and went back to checkin counter waited for 3 hours to realize they can give the next flight which was first 5pm evening and then changed to 9am morning.
I asked them if I can cancel and get a refund, they said I have to reach out to reservation team.
Reservation team mentioned we could have given you full refund as you have booked via agency. You have to reached out to agency.
Have been chasing them from Sat 8:00 am (working hours start at 8), they first said they cant cancel, as the flight status is open and then first leg flown.
After that after multiple calls to Emirates and Uber. They have cancelled the flight but Uber is saying they havent received a voucher code yet.
Has anyone faced such an issue before, also should I raise the dispute via my credit card.
This page seems to suggest so: https://www.easyjet.com/en/help/booking/emirates-skywards (but when I try to search partner airlines I see no mention of Easyjet nor will it let me select the departure/arrival airports I'm looking for)
I paid 33k+ Capital One miles for a 3 hour Easyjet flight from Bristol to Lisbon on 5/31/27 and am still within the 24 hour window to cancel it, so if I can find a cheaper way to do it I'd love to.... halp!
I’m planning a trip from Orlando (MCO) to Dubai (DXB) and looking for some advice on the best strategy using my Aeroplan points.
Right now, I have 90,000 Aeroplan points to use. I am looking at two options and trying to figure out which makes the most sense regarding cost and the likelihood of upgrading:
Option 1: Book Premium Economy outright. This is costing exactly 90k Aeroplan points + $1,300 CAD in taxes/fees.
Option 2: Book a Standard Reward Economy ticket for 90k Aeroplan points (with much lower taxes/fees).
My ultimate goal is to fly Business Class or bare minimum Premium Economy. If I go with Option 2 (Standard Economy), what are the actual realistic chances that Emirates will offer me a last-minute cash upgrade to Business Class at check-in or via the app?
Does Emirates frequently offer cash upgrades on partner award tickets booked through Aeroplan? If they do, what kind of cash co-pay should I expect to see for the MCO-DXB leg?
Would love to hear from anyone who has tried to upgrade an Aeroplan-issued Emirates ticket with cash recently. Thanks in advance!
First time in the business class lounge at DXB and this place has zero charm or character. On one hand, I'm sort of surprised because I'd expect more from the brass at Emirates to make everything "the best", but on the other hand Dubai itself lacks much of a soul, so maybe it checks out. Regardless, this lounge and its never ending chairs and toilets is bizarre.
Title: Help Needed: KES 84,700 Payment Made on Emirates.com but No Booking Confirmation or E-Ticket Received
Hello Emirates team and community,
I’m kindly asking for assistance with a payment issue involving a flight booking I attempted to make through Emirates.com.
On 26 September 2026, at approximately 10:16 PM, I made a payment of KES 84,700 for what I believed was an Emirates flight booking. My Equity Bank transaction confirmation shows the payment to EMIRATES, and I have the transaction message as proof of payment.
Unfortunately, I never received a booking confirmation email, booking reference, or e-ticket, despite the money being deducted from my account. Because I couldn’t confirm that I had a valid ticket, I eventually had to travel using a different airline.
I subsequently visited Equity Bank and initiated a reversal/dispute for the payment. However, the bank has now asked me to provide written confirmation from Emirates regarding the possibility of reversing or refunding the payment.
I’m kindly requesting assistance in locating this transaction and confirming whether the payment was received by Emirates. If no booking was created, I would appreciate guidance on how to recover my money and obtain the documentation my bank requires.
Here are the transaction details: Amount: KES 84,700 Date: 26 September 2026 Time: Approximately 10:16 PM Bank transaction reference: 626919157130 Booking reference/e-ticket: Never received
I would be very grateful if an Emirates representative could advise me on the appropriate department to contact or help me obtain written confirmation for my bank.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I sincerely hope this can be resolved.
I was comparing multiple Emirates flights because I needed to book one round-trip ticket and one one-way ticket.
While switching between different flight options/tabs, I accidentally ended up booking two round-trip tickets instead of one round-trip and one one-way ticket.
I noticed the mistake quickly and cancelled the unintended round-trip booking about 31 minutes after purchase.
The two round-trip bookings substantially overlapped: same passenger, same travel dates, and most flight segments were identical, although one connecting flight was different.
Emirates refunded most of the ticket but kept about CAD $415 as a cancellation fee. They say it is not considered a duplicate booking because the complete itineraries were not identical.
Has anyone had success getting Emirates to waive a cancellation fee in a similar accidental booking situation? Which escalation path worked best?
I have a Dublin to Dubai night flight this week and I see the promotional upgrade to business is €700. It’s a 7.5 hour flight. I’m travelling on my own and it’s a bit of a special trip for me but I don’t know if it’s justifiable. I want to upgrade to premium economy but no promotional upgrades are available for PE, only standard upgrade which is €500. Is it possible promotional upgrades may become available in the next day or two before my flight for premium economy? Or do I just book business. Thanks 😊
