Magic the Gathering Bar Takeover š§āāļøāØļø
Hey yall!! My buddies and I decided to start a Magic the Gathering social club by the name of "The Sanctuary" based in LA. We're hosting FREE biweekly events/ meet ups at local bars & breweries. Our event this week will be hosted at 6PM this Sunday (10/18) at HoneyBird in La Canada Flintridge. This is our first time in that area and we're excited to hopefully see some new faces! :) Everyone is warmly welcomed to attend regardless of power level & experience!
Please follow us on our Instagram (SanctuaryMtg) as we post all our events there & feel free to message our IG for any questions. We have multiple tables reserved for multiple pods. Hope to see yall there!! ššš
PLEASE VOTE ASAP. Yesterday the regime gave CA 48 hours to certify a list of people that it ābelieves are likely noncitizens". Those on the list are not to receive ballots. If their ballots have already been returned then those ballots are not to be counted.
Justice Dept. demands California prove citizenship for lists of voters or withhold ballots

Did Todayās āskid row drug bustāaffect you, or will it?
Hey, I wanna check in to see locals thoughts about ācleanupā in Skid Row today.
Iām over by Sawtelle off Bundy and Iāve seen multiple homeless people Iāve never seen before and theyāre so damaged they donāt even form words. Iām trying to leave my work right now and am stuck (luckily on the other side of a garage gate) but canāt leave cause of this guy moaning violently at the air. Soā¦
This isnāt necessarily a political question (thatās not the goal) but Iāve seen some people call it a stunt already and iām interested in seeing if anyone has the inside scoop on the upcoming voting being swayed by this in some way, too. I saw some comments on an article shared on Facebook that it only lasted two hours. Were you there? What are your thoughts? I kind of just wanna know how locals are affected across Los Angeles as well as close to skid row. Have you seen this been done before? How often? What happens? Throw in a proposal for solving homelessness Iād love to see it.
Hereās what I understand(and I just want to learn more so please expand or correct me)⦠Skid Row is a huge area, 56 square blocks (quoting that Netflix crime documentary about the Carlisle). There the police basically donāt even bother going. A big reason thereās so many homeless people is one- thereās rampant drug use and easy access to it along with some resources available downtown. Two itās also where patients with no home address are released from being in a mental institutions or after being arrested ( frequently for being homeless &/or mentally ill &/or showing aggression in some way). Often people who suffer with mental illness &/or psychosis from extended drug use &/or addiction behave irrationally (donāt take meds/ continue access to the meds/ choose to be homeless) to people who donāt deal with those issues and homelessness is frequently the outcome, especially with it being so un affordable in Los Angeles.
So itās an area that was created systematically to contain this type of behavior and illness thereās plenty of targeted outreach to that area, but thereās not some long-term solution. It seems like today was kindled by the upcoming voting next month. And I think Iām already seeing effects of people having left the area to avoid the people hunting for numbers of arrests. Which, in-part, means that across LA it just wonāt be your local unhoused regulars.
As an 20syo female who works late outside of Sawtelle it really concerns me. I live just outside of Culver City by the ten and in five months Iāve probably called the cops 15-20 times because of scary homeless people breaking shit and being totally mentally unstable or wielding weapons or encampments/trespassing/ damaging property.
Sometimes I feel like Iām around a lot of darkness, but maybe Iām hyper aware (& give clothes out and food out by work) or is this all pretty much people in LAās experience generally just cause weāve live in a big duckin city? What do yāall do? Do you wanna plug any resources to help mentally ill or the right title in certain districts, city council to contact / other tips and resources? GIVE ME THE SCOOPS PLEASSSEE

How do I need to prep for El NiƱo if I live in DTLA?
Or is the concern mostly for the coast and valley?
I live in an apt building, several floors up. The utilitiesā maintenance is largely beyond my control. I live in an old, but seemingly well-maintained building that has endured a multitude of seasons at this point.
I donāt want to start hoarding things like bottled water, if I donāt need to. I want to only take what I need.
Any insight is appreciated.
Thank you.

Have you seen these goblets? š
Hi all! Back in 2018, I saw these stunning goblets at The Last Bookstore, and like a fool, I didnāt immediately bring them home with me. I came back to find the artistās store gone, and the goblets with them! Does anyone recognize the style/make/artist/etc, and know where I could find them? I canāt stop thinking about them š and havenāt been able to find anything like them since. ((If you ended up owning them yourself, no worries, but it would be nice to know that they ended up in a nice home c:)) Thanks for the help!

What the hell is going on on Broadway today???
A bunch of blockages and nothing in the news. Went to go grab a quick coffee and it turned into a 40 minute mission to get out of 3 blocks.
