"In progress"?! That looks like I could drink it right now!

That is so rude, you just walking around with all that talent 😤

u/Advanced_End1012 1d ago

Remember to draw a proper Guineas pint you have to draw it half way and wait a few minutes before finishing it off!

This is so fckin good mate 🙌

Damn! This sucks. Your drawing was absolutely perfect until you spilled beer. Damn. 🤯🤩😂😂😂😂😂😂🍻

(Absolutely brilliant!)

2

u/JOV_97 1d ago

Haha lol. Seriously though I had this on the table for months and the more I worked on it the more terrified I was of actually spilling something. Would have been ironic indeed.

u/SaltyAuthorOne 1d ago

Great work!! Keep posting.

Just missing the toucan!

1

u/JOV_97 1d ago

Haha I did look at some of those old glasses when scouting for reference objects

3

u/lemontest 1d ago

How do you create that pattern in the beer and foam?

17

u/JOV_97 1d ago

I had to draw it all out by hand, this piece took over six months of work on and off. I was hoping I could use a quilling needle to speed up the process but it didn’t achieve the desired effect.

I love a Guinness and this drawing is perfection! I really appreciate the level of detail you put into the foam, bubbles, and glass. Incredible work!

Thank you so much!

Do you mind sharing the dimensions, what you're using, and how long you've been at it so far??

This is absolutely SPECTACULAR!!!!!

3

u/JOV_97 1d ago

Thanks! Appreciate that. Sure, off the top of my head this one is 115cm tall and 80ish cm wide, arches cotton paper and mostly caran d’ache luminance pencils with Derwent lightfast and prismacolor too… this piece took 6-8 months and I’ve been drawing for longer than I can remember!

I'm just now looking through your old posts, and you're like, literally incredible????? Those balloons drawings are fucking insane, and as a Coca Cola fan (Coke Zero, to be precise!), I am truly digging the bottle cap and Spillage pieces. Also love the Dodge Challenger you did. I know there is so much with layer colors and mapping everything out to scale, I wouldn't even know where to begin. You have a gift that has been selectively fine-tuned with your determination and relentless attitude to just keep drawing. You are inspiring me to pick back up my sketchbook!

Editing to add, just gave you a follow on instagram so that I can keep up with your work!!!

2

u/JOV_97 1d ago

Ah man I can’t tell you enough how kind it is for you to say that. I’ve been working as an artist for a while now and it’s not always an easy road but I love the craft and yeah, I’m determined to keep creating stuff and honing my skills. Definitely pick up the sketchbook, it makes an excellent alternative to doomscrolling :)

1

u/bravo-echo-charlie 1d ago

Amen to that, my friend!!! I spam-liked a handful of your reels, you truly have an amazing eye and hand for this. One final question for you, is how do you know when you're finished? Is it like, just an internal gut feeling like, "yep, that was the last blend" .. or do you sometimes have to force yourself to stop if you sometimes catch yourself keeping on with blending and layering?? I fear I would never stop and have like a three year long project!! 🤣

Amazing work and beautiful art! Have you ever seen the stuff an artist called Michael English produced back in the 70’s and 80’s, just before the advent of more digital based methods kind of taking over?

It’s some wonderful stuff and yours is definitely up there with some of the best of his.

2

u/JOV_97 1d ago

I have now! Thank you for introducing me to that. Definitely preoccupied by similar subjects and he has a fun style. Thank you! And for the kind words too :)

No worries at all, I’ve been a bit of a struggling artist my whole life also, so more than happy to spread the love and absolutely try to support great talent when seen!

And if you like Mr English’s stuff keep an eye out for a book called 3D Eye, OOP now but I’ve found it a couple of times in charity/op shops and it’s a great reference book as well as an amazing profile of his career!

Oh and if you’re interested, there’s a fantastic YouTube channel by an art historian called Pete Beard including a section on the unsung heroes of illustration!

It does a wee breakdown and profile on all the amazing artists and illustrators (and their varying styles and methods) that have sadly been forgotten over the years and is a great, informative and neat resource to find out more about some of the lesser known but still incredibly talented artists that have come and gone.

Look forward to seeing your piece and others progress!

I zoomed in and I am genuinely shocked at the details. So many marks and colors in each square cm

1

u/Unhappy_Stomach9637 1d ago

Getting lost in detailing each of those tiny foam bubbles must feel so therapeutic. Incredible patience.
