Otis Williams & His Charms â One Night Only (De Luxe 6095) | The Neven78...
Otis Williams & His Charms were one of the most polished vocal groups of the midâ1950s, bridging early R&B with the emerging dooâwop sound.
De Luxe Records issued several of their strongest sides, and 6095 is a classic pairing:
- One Night Only â a driving, emotional R&B performance
- Itâs All Over â a smoother, harmonyâforward ballad
These discs are prized by collectors for their warm De Luxe mastering and distinctive blackâlabel aesthetic.

Amazing ballad and good uptempo by the Devilles on Arrawak
This is one of those where I will gladly put this one in its sleeve with the intended B side facing forward. An amazing ballad. I consider it one of the best vocal group ballads I've listened to. It's a 1962 cover of the Maharajahs (although strangely, it's credited as being written by the group members here). These guys were from Jersey City, New Jersey. The link below is actually a transfer from this exact record!

instrumental with vocals đ¸ The Platters â My Prayer (Mercury 70893, 1956) The Neven 78 Radio Archive
My Prayer became a major hit when The Platters recorded it for Mercury in 1956. The groupâs lush vocal blend, paired with Tony Williamsâ soaring lead, helped define the midââ50s popâvocal era. Mercuryâs blackâlabel design from this period is one of the labelâs most recognizable looks.

AI Doowop Purge
Does anyone have archives of deleted AI doowop songs? I went to my music library on YouTube and was shocked to see that all of my favorite AI doowop songs are gone. I'm really upset! One of my favorite creators was a channel called 'Doowopman1959'. Some of his songs included "Tears in my Diary", "I Thought it was Love", "You'll Never Get Her Now", and "We Walked Down the Aisle". What the heck is going on?! Here are two screen shots from two of his songs:

instrumental with vocals đ¸ The Spiders â Mmm Mmm Baby (Imperial 5305) The Neven 78 Radio Archive
Released in late summer 1954, "Mmm Mmm Baby" captures the signature vocal group sound of New Orleans classic R&B band The Spiders. Led by brothers Chuck and Leonard "Chick" Carbo, the group recorded for Lew Chuddâs Imperial Records with legendary arrangement and production support from Dave Bartholomew. The single became a strong seller in the Midwest and regional R&B markets, featuring a blend of up-tempo vocal harmony and heavy crescent-city rhythm section backing.

Great pair of tunes by the Jesters on Winley!
I love both sides of this 45, but Love No One But You is definitely my favorite side, which is why I put the image of that side first. The intro and outro are just perfect. I believe this to be an early 1960s repress. True original 1957 copies have a different layout. Doesn't really matter too much though, it sounds wonderful!

instrumental with vocals đ¸ The Spiders â The Real Thing (Imperial 5305) | The Neven 78 Radio Archive
The Spiders: Led by brothers Chuck and Joe Carbo, this New Orleans group scored multiple hits on the national R&B charts during the mid-1950s. Their vocal arrangements blended gospel-rooted lead vocals with driving Southern rhythm and blues rhythms.

Cookie and his Cupcakes - Just One Kiss
A band that is largely forgotten today, Cookie and his Cupcakes, got their start in 1952 in Lake Charles Louisiana. Their best songs seem to have been largely covers of songs that did not get the attention they deserved. This one was a Chuck Willis original.

1980s Movie Joey
Anyone else seen this movie? Itâs about a fictional doo wop singer and his son whoâs an aspiring musician.
Lots of great music and a fun story imo.
Any other movies that focus on doo wop?

Toxic Tune!!! Listening to Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes' "I Miss You" made us ask: what could possibly make this woman come back?! Teddy was crooning hard, but let's be honest... they are definitely the problem.

Anybody know any information about the "Chucko" show?
I've been listening to this YouTube channel playing classics from the 60s with the focus in doo wop, and they upload very frequently and a good chunk of music they play are songs I've never heard! Discovering this channel was very exciting but what's confusing to me is that i can't find much info about the radio show. Idk if it's a currently operating show you can tune into to if it's rebroadcasted stuff uploaded to YouTube decades later I'm not sure and it's been itching in my mins for a good bit. Does anybody know anything about it?
Here's a link to the channel for any curious people

Great ballad and nice uptempo by the Sedates on MRB
Both tracks are quite good. Please Love Me Forever has a funny section at the key change 2/3rds of the way in when the lead overpowers the mike a bit. I Found has a bit of an error about halfway through when the bass vocalist misses a rest and gets about a beat ahead of everyone else, but they used the take anyways! This recording didn't take off, but it was covered by Tommy Edwards (flip side of It's All In The Game), Bobby Vinton, and perhaps most famously by Cathy Jean and The Roomates. The story I've heard is that the Cathy Jean version was somewhat based on this recording by the Sedates, but my guess is that it was more of a cover of the Tommy Edwards hit.

Does anyone want a Traditional Pop radio station?
I thought it might be interesting to have a radio station that played classic pop from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s on FM.

The Ravens â âCareless Loveâ
A rich, bluesâinflected performance from The Ravens, one of the most influential vocal harmony groups of the postwar era. Featuring the unmistakable bass lead of Jimmy Ricks, âCareless Loveâ showcases the groupâs signature blend of deep vocal resonance, tight ensemble phrasing, and smooth R&B accompaniment. Their work on National Records helped define the emerging sound of modern vocal rhythm & blues.
Transferred from an original National 9085 nonâbreakable disc for The Neven 78 Radio Archive, preserving the authentic tonal character of lateâ1940s R&B.
