DISCUSSION ⚔️ She’s the worst girl in the kingdom
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I wanted to reveal some tidbits about my aspiring Disney princess story.
Growing up I was an actor. I always wanted to play Cinderella (what Disney Princess girl doesn’t?). But I couldn’t sing. And I struggled to make friends.
In fact I’d go as far to say I was the most unpopular girl in my school. I know this because kids I didn’t know would come up to me and bully me by my name, even though I never met them.
So while Cinderella is my favorite princess because she always managed to be kind even in the face of horrible treatment, that’s never been me. I mostly cried to be honest.
Fairy tales have always been my favorite. I would check out anthology collections and read them all. I remember once I was so engrossed in a book I didn’t notice the lunch bell. It wasn’t until minutes later when my teacher found me unaware, nose in a book.
So when it came to creating my heroine, I made her an outcast. She is a good person at heart, but like a real teenager, she can be selfish. She’s trying to be a better person, someone who doesn’t meltdown when she gets scared. Someone who doesn’t mess up things for everyone else. Shes not trying to be difficult, but she doesn’t know how to change.
When she was younger, the bullying from boys her age left a scar on her heart. As such, she is terrified of the boy she loves. He’s becoming her best friend, but she doesn’t know how to let him in.
That boy, the hero, knows something bad is going on, though he doesn’t know why. As the kingdom’s new sorcerer, he can sense the darkness, and he’s determined to keep the kingdom safe. Yet he’s drawn away from the royal castle to the duke’s small palace because the duke’s oldest daughter has captured his heart.
I’ve worked on this screenplay for over ten years. I stopped waiting for someone else to make me a princess a long time ago. I am writing and composing all the original music (it’s a musical) myself. After years of composing and researching and character designs, I spent 3 months refining the story (I can’t share the synopsis because I’m very much aiming to sell but it’s gooood). Right now I’m on page 12 of the screenplay (which I expect to be somewhere between 80-100 pages) and I’m writing an accompanying novel simultaneously.
To me, a Princess doesn’t to have a crown. But she also doesn’t have to be perfect. I think my heroine deeply deeply deeply wants to be someone perfect who is kind and sweet and loved and she’s learning that not everything is about her. She’s learning the sisters she has kept at arms lengths have loved her even as she pushed them away. She’s learning there is a difference between causing others harm and not letting society’s expectations change who she is.
She loves to dance. There will be lots of dancing and singing.
The music is my favorite part. When I finish the screenplay I am going to be pitching to producer friends and figuring out the novel and short films because I want you all and everyone who loves princess movies to fall for her before she goes to the big screen. I may write an original song specifically for one of the shorts, but that’s dependent on the producers directions.
Anyways, I’ve muted the music because this artwork doesn’t give away any of the story but the music is a secret. But I wanted to share this first shot I’ve storyboarded myself.
I’m not perfect. But I think this world needs a story about someone who is learning that her mistakes and her past make her who she is.
It’s scary to share my art online, especially in the days of AI when I worry it might be stolen. Obviously this is not a finished product, it’s really just a concept, but I animated it by hand.
As I continue in my process I hope to keep sharing with you all. I really am making this for every person who loves classic fairy tales. And even if Disney doesn’t want it, I will find someone who does.
When I get farther along I look forward to resharing it with one of the music demos. But for now, here is the opening shot concept for “The Twelve.”
It’s a completely original story. It’s inspired by “The 12 dancing princesses” but to be honest it’s really just the fairy tale of my heart. So it’s not a story anyone has heard before.
I should also add this isn’t a pipe dream. I am a part of the entertainment industry. Not anyone famous or important mind you, but I have actual connections from years working in this business. So wish me luck! It’s hard to keep fighting through an industry full of rejection. But even though I’ve already starred in a movie (before a disabling accident that has stopped my acting career), this screenplay is the thing I’m proudest of. As in like, my whole life.
Also the villain is definitely a real villain. He is basically totally evil and you know almost immediately.
The setting of the film is fictional, but it’s deeply inspired by the geography and architecture of Ireland and California.
Does this sound like the kind of Disney film you guys would be interested in? My instinct says yes cause it’s the story I’ve wanted to hear my whole life but because the story I’m telling doesn’t exist it’s kind of like, will other people like it?

DISCUSSION ⚔️ Jodi Benson (original voice of Ariel) as Marina Neptune singing together with Ariel from Disney Jr. Ariel
It brings me such joy to see how Ariel has stayed with Jodi throughout the years. Even now, in her 60s, she continues to voice Ariel with the same spirit and dedication she brought to the original film. Most importantly, she continues to bless and support the new Ariel who are exploring uncharted waters and winning over new generations of children, whether in the live-action adaptation or the Disney Jr. series, or discovering the 89's Ariel (the Ariel of our generation). And I think we are so lucky to have her, she's a truly talented artist, but even better: a genuinely good and generous person; A real princess.

DISCUSSION ⚔️ Who were your top 3 princesses as a kid compared to now?
For me, it used to be Ariel, Cinderella, and Rapunzel.
Now, it's Belle, Tiana, and Cinderella.

DISCUSSION ⚔️ The duality of being a Disney fan. Why I love Disney but hate Bob Iger
As a way illustrate the complicated duality of being a fan of Disney, a company we hold so dear while being lead by a man who never truly cared, here's a parody poem I made inspired by Jefferson Bethke's viral poem to show why I hate Bob Iger but love Disney
What if I told you Disney magic was meant to abolish corporate greed?
What if I told you endless acquisitions really weren't what the studio needed?
What if I told you wearing a suit in Burbank doesn't make you a visionary,
And just because you bought up every franchise doesn't mean the soul isn't buried?
I mean, if Bob Iger is so great, why did he leave the studio in ruins?
Why does he cash a thirty-million check while blaming the artists for what he's doing?
Sits in Sun Valley in a billionaire bubble calling striking workers "unrealistic,"
While the writers and animators who built his empire get treated like a cold statistic.
He might preach "courage" in a press release, while cowardice is what he practices—
Cutting LGBTQ stories from Pixar scripts the second the political wind shifts axis.
He can't fix his creative bankruptcy, and so he just masks it, Not realizing another live-action remake is like spraying perfume on a casket.
See, the problem with Iger's leadership is it never gets to the core,
It’s just IP strip-mining treated like a quarterly shareholder chore.
Like, "Let's slap CGI on a classic, make the box office look nice and neat,"
But it's funny—that's what they used to do to mummies while the corpse rots underneath.
Look at Wish—a hundred years of legacy reduced to a soulless committee note,
Then he blames the audience for rejecting it and uses original art as a scapegoat!
Uses a film that his system broke as an excuse to kill anything new,
So he can greenlight a fifth Toy Story and Moana 2 just to coast right through.
Now I ain't buying the PR spin, quit putting on that fake "Uncle Bob" look,
'Cause there's a problem when your only real passion is your own leadership book.
In every other aspect of life, we know that sociopathic logic's unworthy—
It's like saying you play for the Angels or the Ducks just because Disney bought the jersey.
See, he played the savior for decades, and Wall Street bought the facade,
Acting like a friend to creatives while ruling the lot like a hollow god.
When the bill came due for his streaming mess, he slipped out the back door quick,
Handed Bob Chapek a ticking time bomb just to use him as a whipping stick.
Undercut his own successor from the shadows, then crept right back to the throne,
Overstaying his welcome for years while refusing to leave the spotlight alone.
And the second the political pressure got hot, look how fast his backbone broke—
Suspending Jimmy Kimmel to appease the bullies, then hiding behind a "bad taste" smokescreen joke.
Because if imagination is water, then Disney should be an ocean,
Not a hollowed-out content factory devoid of human emotion!
Now let me clarify: I love the animation, I love the parks, and the dreamers within,
But if a young Walt pitched a risky original today, would Bob Iger even let him in?
Remember, Walt bet the whole studio on Snow White when the bankers called him a fool,
While Iger won't greenlight a single frame unless it's a safe, pre-sold franchise tool.
Now back to the point, one thing is vital to mention:
How Disney and Bob Iger are on opposite spectrums.
See, one is the spark of human wonder, the other's a boardroom invention.
See, one is the cure for a cynical world, the other is the infection.
See, because Iger says "content," Disney says "art."
Iger says "synergy," Disney says "heart."
Iger puts storytellers in bondage, while true imagination sets them free.
Iger blinds us with nostalgic slop, while real Disney magic makes us see.
And that's why the C-suite and the creatives belong to two different clans:
Iger is a billionaire searching for margins; Disney is magic searching for man.
Which is why the legacy belongs to the artists, not the executive throne—
Not based on Iger's mergers, but on the storytellers' blood and sweat alone.
Because the animators took the crunch hours, the cast members smiled through the heat,
The writers fought on the picket lines while he gutted the studio from a luxury seat.
He absorbed a century of goodwill and buried original stories in a tomb,
Leaving sequels and remakes fighting for scraps in an empty boardroom.
So as for Bob Iger's reign? No, I hate it—in fact, I literally resent it.
And now that his tenure will finally be finished... for Disney's sake, I hope they meant it.

POLLS ✅ Do You Think Mirabel Is Still A Good Protagonist Despite Having An "Adorkable" Personality?
Disclaimer: I, myself personally don't see anything wrong with Disney Princesses/Heroines being quirky or "adorkable" because I'm an adorkable, optimistic, and quirky person too, but I do understand people's burn out for it and wanting to see more personalities again. That's something I want too!

DISCUSSION ⚔️ What we need to start talking about instead of just repeating the same question
A lot of people in this subreddit ask the same damn question. "Is it just me, or do I want princesses in Disney movies to have relationships again?", and it's done so much that it's not really interesting anymore. There is nothing wrong for a character to have a romantic partner, but also most Disney Princesses have partners, some of them are just given little to no attention in comparison to others.
This morning, I watched the film Thief and the Cobbler (although it is also called Princess and the Cobbler, or Arabian Knight)
And I thought to myself how cool it was for a prince character like Tack to exist in that story as he is, and still become the hero at the end, and the Princess isn't turned into a helpless damsel in distress either.
The point of this post is that instead of asking the question in the beginning because it's been answered so many times, we should ask about what type of love interest would we want in the next Disney Princess movie.
I think it would be cool for the next one to be a softie that isn't necessarily weak, but is unsure. For my idea for a Princess and the Pea adaptation, the originally shallow prince is turned into a prisoner in his own home, hidden from sight while his scheming mother cuts off his potential dating pool as the days get closer to his coronation.

DISCUSSION ⚔️ Activist Disney Princesses
I think the Disney Princesses should be more like activists today and they don’t need no man or someone to love.
If Disney absolutely followed the Internet’s hot takes, Snow White would be a figure to promote harassment after she was kissed without consent or how Ariel had no agency when Eric was trying to kiss her. Maybe use “anti predator spray”. Maybe Rapunzel could use anti predator spray against Flynn so she can cut her hair herself in the live action remake.
Asha would have been the first activist princess so she can erase the patriarchy into the cold and dark void. Pepé Le Pew’s ban in Hollywood should set a standard how women should back against harassment, assault and predatory behavior.

DISCUSSION ⚔️ If there are part of any Disney Princess movies that you would rewrite, what would they be?
For example: I might have the idea to have Snow White be a character with albinism, specifically half-Tanzanian. It would've been really interesting imagining Queen Grimhilde being upset that she's darker skinned than someone who is half black. In the same film, I'd add more context to her relationship to the prince, it's implied in some sources that they are already in a relationship, and it's long distance. Have her not feel shame for expressing emotions, that part kind of pisses me off.
Beauty and the Beast is another example because it's good, but I kind of wish the Beast said his name in the film, and that his backstory in the film was more like the original fairytale. It would add an interesting explanation towards his behaviour and explaining why he might be so quick to change for the better since he's finally gotten some level of support. It would also be a nice way to connect with Belle personally since both are preyed upon.
I'd go ahead and do Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, but I want to see your interpretations of how you would tell these stories.

I know this is oddly specific but I'm just a really big fan of Tinkerbell and the song Piano Man from Billy Joel one of his major hits from 1973.

DISCUSSION ⚔️ I've yet to watch Belle's Magical World, but considering that it's considered to be one of the very worst Disney direct-to-video/made for TV sequels, the audience score is quite surprising
For better or worse, Rotten Tomatoes isn't a very accurate indicator on a movie's consensus. There's a lot of these movies that have very low ratings, but when looking through things like Reddit and other sites, the general consensus is a lot more positive or mixed.
And while in most cases I'm definitely not pro-ai when it comes to using it as a final source of information, as it can make the most silliest mistakes, finding a movie's general consensus is something where I'd honestly take my chances with ai than something like Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB, because even though it can make mistakes, I feel like it's okay for a general idea, even if it might not be perfect
