So there is a challenge going on with an app in my local area , The owner of the app said that if anyone can find a code he mentioned , in the app he will give u 300$ his app is a services app will u can find people to do a service for u , so what do guys think where the code is located in the app ? he posted this for public not Developers so i assume it easy its laying there somewhere in the UI or maybe u need to search something in the app so the code comes up from the database? , ive uploaded the Apk file to claude but no luck , What are some ways i can use to find this code ?

Why do geometric 3D renders have to be so heavy? Turns out they don't.

For years, 3D file formats have prioritized precision, whether for 3D printing or high-quality renders. But the browser doesn't care about that level of precision. As long as you're within a pixel or so, precision isn't that important. Most websites with 3D models use simple designs, and no file format actually targeted that use case. Many sites literally used a scroll-through video instead.

I thought: this sounds a lot like what SVG does for 2D. What's stopping us from making it 3D? Turns out: nothing.

So I sat down and built it.

ES3D (Extensible Scalable 3D) is a file format for 3D scenes. It does for a scene what SVG does for a drawing. The file describes the objects: a rounded box here, an outline extruded into a solid there, two thousand trees on a hill. The viewer builds the triangles at the detail the screen actually needs. A forest fits in under a kilobyte, and a text editor is enough to write it.

This proposal sets to lay the ground for an easy to make 3D web.

I understand AI has allowed software engineers to become more productive and has shifted focus from writing code to system architecture and problem solving. In saying that, would you say that this has made engineers more interchangeable in the eyes of companies?

In the past, a company would pay exisiting engineers a high salary for their familiarity with the codebase and their expertise with a particular tech stack. This made firing employees and hiring new ones risky and potentially very costly as it would take some time before new staff were familiar enough with the codebase to be productive. Now with AI models that can have context windows of more than a million tokens, can readily explain it and can churn out decent code in just about any language for any problem, would you say onboarding new recruits and firing old ones has become easier for companies? Would you also say system design is an easier skill to pick up than expertise in a particular language ie is it easier to find people who know how to design systems now than it was to find people who were good with a particular tech stack in the past?

I'm a CS student working on a few side projects, and in one of them I needed to talk to a database from plain Java (no Spring). I ended up hand-writing the same connection setup, PreparedStatement binding, and ResultSet-to-object mapping over and over, and most existing solutions either assume you're in Spring Boot or go full ORM with a lot of complexity I didn't need.

So I built Sabre — a small, framework-agnostic library that handles the common CRUD stuff for you (save/find/update/delete via simple annotations), but still lets you drop to raw SQL whenever you need something more complex, like joins or aggregates.

I'm planning to build a free browser-based multiplayer game, but instead of jumping straight into development with a random idea, I figured I'd ask the people who would actually play it.

I'm curious about what kind of multiplayer games people genuinely enjoy or wish existed.

It could be anything:

• A casual board game to play with friends
• A competitive strategy game
• A chaotic party game
• A social deduction or bluffing game
• Something completely new that hasn't been done before

I'm especially interested in games that are easy to get into but hard to stop playing. Something you could open in your browser, invite a few friends, and have fun without downloading anything.

Final year student. Built a side project to ask questions across my lecture PDFs with page citations, because ChatGPT kept answering from the internet instead of my prof’s slides. Lessons I could not find written in one place.

Gemini’s free embedding quota counts passages, not requests. A 60 page PDF failed on the second batch. Fix was storing chunks first, then a background job that embeds 50, waits 30 seconds, repeats, and reschedules on rate limits.

Chunk per page, not per document, or your page citations are fake. Students actually check them.

You probably do not need a separate vector DB. Convex has one built in, and the same backend did file storage and scheduled jobs.

Clerk 7 on Next 16 renamed middleware to proxy, removed SignedIn and SignedOut, and you can skip the JWT template by having Convex verify the default session token as a custom JWT.

Tell the model to refuse. Without an explicit “say so if the excerpts do not cover it” line, it invents answers with fake citations.

Still figuring out scanned PDFs and what to do about costs once the free tier runs out for multiple users. How do you handle those?

So, I was working on a project called Vigilante (by Ocix) for the last 6-7 months. And now people have started looking into it and actually using it. The numbers are still very low but I feel Reddit will help me to reach this project to all the developers out there.

Problem statement -

For the last year, I have been very serious about building something so that I can survive if AI takes over my job. But whenever I try to build something. I'm just motivated for the initial 5-6 days, and then motivation fades.

I planned to do something for this first.

How I proceed:

Currently, we are at v7 of the application, and it was not like this from the start.8

- The first version only had the dashboard and Pomodoro + it charged money if I missed a day.

=> Response: It doesn't even let people try it. Worst UI and bugs. But it helped me to stick around it.

- Second version: I improved the UI a bit, but it was still a dashboard; no one liked it.

- Till v5, the same story was repeating: I was improving the font, UI, adding unwanted features, and no one was giving a f\*.

- In v6, I got the idea of why not to make it a game; this one was completely not my idea at all, but a subtle hint I got from one of my followers. I built it and made it an action game.

- Now people are starting to show interest, but a big issue came up as the games are costly. So need to think about the cost also. For some of the fields, I used the image in the background, and that was spoiling the game.

- In v7, I figured out what I needed... I was playing a city builder game, and it was so addictive that I played it day and night for 3 days just to complete all its levels. That's when I got the final idea.

It took me a lot of time, but every time I learned a lot.

But now, with the arrival of coding agents, you can create more or less any app with any stack in less than a week. So, I don't know if a portfolio still really makes sense? What's your opinion on this, and how do you showcase your skills to stand out in your applications or interviews?

Recently, I made a woocommerce plugin that integrates a selfhosted Captcha services.

The captcha service was made by someone elsem I just made the integration.

I wrote to the person who made the captcha service, and asked him for his thoughts, and sent him the github link.

He asked me to 'open a pull reqiest'. I for the life of me don't know what he means. Wouldn't he make the pull request?

As a kid, I learned the basics of programming in school; I’ve always been into "geeky" things. A month ago, I decided to start a side project to generate some extra income, so I began developing a client management platform for entrepreneurs. The idea itself is fantastic, and since I already had a domain name and a virtual machine (VM) set up, all that was left to do was the actual programming.

I shared my idea with ChatGPT, and it suggested we work on it together—so, little by little, I’ve been developing the project with its help.

The problem I’m running into is that, while it does log changes and modifications in .MD (Markdown) files, it often gets sidetracked when trying to fix a specific issue. I end up running 35 tests on things that aren't even the main priority. Also, the conversations eventually run out of space (context window), forcing me to start a new chat. I tried using Codex, but it burned through my entire plan’s token allowance in just a couple of hours—even though I wasn't pushing it very hard.

My programming knowledge is basic, though I’m quite tech-savvy.

To keep moving forward with my project, which AI would you recommend using, and why?

Years ago, I became interested in how old developers made games and programs work with very little RAM and CPU power.

So I started a side project an ad blocker that could handle thousands of blocklist entries using only about 512 KB of RAM.

I posted it on Reddit, and it reached the front page.
People liked it and started forking the project,
I uploaded it to GitHub for free so people could learn from it and use it. I also made it clear that nobody could use the code to make money or use it without giving me credit.

About a year later, I got a Reddit notification about someone making a similar program. I thought it was cool that people were interested in using old methods to save RAM.

Then I checked the code.
The guy had copied my entire project and uploaded it to GitHub without even forking my original repository. He changed some names and the way it looked, then started making money from YouTube videos and content about it.

The code also clearly looked like it had been rewritten or modified using AI.
I contacted GitHub, but got no response. YouTube was the same. Surprisingly, Reddit actually took his content down.

It took me a whole year to build that project, and someone else took my work and claimed the credit in just a few minutes.

I also started getting messages from vibe coders adding tons of features without proper testing. The code was full of bugs and security risks, when I pointed that out, they called me slow. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Good code takes time to test properly.

I really hate vibe coders..

Hello, i started learning C++ from today, i'm a guy who doesn't want to use AI in codes and who really needed another language with nasty mr. Py (cybersecurity), but i am SUPER lost.

One of the reason for learning cpp is saying: "I code in cpp btw" like arch users always does.

These are the signs we see most often before something breaks:

- Pages getting slower over time

- Errors users report that nobody can reproduce

- Dependencies or frameworks not updated for months

- No clear owner when something goes wrong

- Backups that exist but have never been restore-tested

- Expired certificates or browser security warnings

Curious what other warning signs people have learned to watch for. What would you add?

I'm interested in the gap between the price quoted at the beginning and what a software project actually costs by the end. 

I've seen how many moving parts go into delivering software, and the original estimate doesn't always capture the full picture. 

But I'd like to understand this from the buyer's side. 

Was it scope creep? Poor requirements? Unexpected technical complexity? Slow communication? A team that needed constant supervision? Or an estimate that was unrealistic from day one? 

A few questions for anyone who's hired an agency or development team: 

1. What did you expect to pay versus what you actually paid? 
2. At what point did you realize the project was going off track? 
3. What could the agency have done differently to prevent it? 

If you could buy one thing upfront to avoid a bad software project, what would it be? 

A technical assessment, a fixed-scope discovery phase, weekly delivery checkpoints, independent oversight, or something else? 

I'm interested in what buyers would genuinely value enough to pay for, not what sounds good in a proposal.

Our company has started capping our AI limits, start at 400$, and manager approval around 800$ and then post 800, skip level approval is required.

Why do you think that gap exists? Is it trust, access to production, risk, or the tools not being good at it yet? And if you do use AI for ops work, what guardrails do you put around it?

I run a web design agency and most of my clients come from cold email. Yesterday I started a fresh campaign going after plumbers in California.

Didn’t expect much honestly. Plumbers are busy and half of them barely check email. But 102 emails in, I got an interested reply.

What made the difference is that every email talks about their own website. A call button that doesn’t work on a phone, a site that takes forever to load, a design that hasn’t been touched since 2012. For a plumber that matters a lot, because people search for them on their phone when a pipe bursts. If the site is bad, they just call the next guy.

He replied yesterday and I booked a meeting with him for the next day. Before the call I built a draft of what his new site could look like. Today I presented it to him on the call and he said yes right there. $3k upfront plus $500 a year for hosting.

Showing the draft is what closes it. Sending a quote never worked this well for me.

For anyone wondering, I use Swokei for all my outreach. I joined a company and was asked by a senior engineer to develop a data framework.
Speed was a key requirement. He claimed Python couldn’t scale because threads don’t work for parallel downloads.
Except Python threads handle I/O concurrency perfectly well. Network bandwidth, remote server limits, and disk throughput were the main bottlenecks.
Anyway, I developed the framework.
Over time, my colleague increasingly positioned himself as the architect. He attended meetings, repeated what the team leader said, and acted as though he was directing the project.
Meanwhile, I was implementing the functionality. Because he’d initiated the project, he received much of the architectural credit.

But the funniest part was happening on another project.
While I was building the framework, he was leading an ambitious initiative: developing an in-house analytical database that would supposedly outperform established cloud data warehouses.
You can already smell the wheel being reinvented.
After two years, his team presented an in-memory encoding technique to compress repeated values while maintaining fast access.
Except columnar compression, dictionary encoding, run-length encoding, and vectorized processing are well-established technologies. There was no convincing comparison with existing open-source solutions or meaningful production benchmark.
And here’s the masterpiece.
The project was abandoned because keeping the entire dataset in RAM was too expensive.

Who could possibly have anticipated that storing petabytes of data in RAM would cost dramatically more than object storage?
The difficult part isn’t making queries fast by putting everything in RAM. It’s achieving good performance without doing that.
You need intelligent caching based on actual production workloads, efficient disk access, compression, query optimization, and benchmarking.
Which data should be cached? What should be evicted? How do you optimize performance per dollar?
That’s the actual engineering challenge.
If your entire strategy is “RAM is faster than disk,” congratulations, you’ve discovered computer architecture.
If a newly graduated intern told me after two weeks that storing everything in memory would be prohibitively expensive, I’d say: “Good observation. Now let’s investigate caching and disk-based architectures.”
But we’re talking about an experienced engineer, formerly in a leadership position, with years of low-level programming experience and compensation well into six figures.
After two years, there was no production system, no demonstrated competitive performance, and no convincing technical justification for the architecture.
And he got promoted.

Meanwhile, the framework I developed became an important part of our organization’s infrastructure.
My manager recognizes my contribution and has given me more responsibility, but promotions are constrained by internal politics.
I didn’t fight over the promotion. Making powerful enemies at work is a terrible investment.
But the gap between technical contribution, perceived authority, and compensation is fascinating.
An engineer who spends two weeks identifying why a project won’t work might save a company millions.

An architect who spends two years discovering the same thing might get promoted for leading an ambitious research initiative.
Sometimes the most scalable thing in software engineering isn’t multithreading, caching, or distributed computing.
It’s taking credit for someone else’s work.

I’m a freelance software engineering in Switzerland. I spent 40hrs building a CMS for a private collector to manage artwork, furniture and collectibles, including their financial information. It’s an installable web app for iPhone, Android and desktop, built with React, Supabase and Cloudflare. I designed the interface around their company’s brand and logo.

It includes:

What would you consider a fair price for this delivery, excluding hosting and ongoing maintenance? How would the hours of work and use of AI affect what you charge?
