Announcement Posting Guidelines for ICE sightings (must contain photographic evidence and why) - Please read before posting

Hello, Bonjour, Salam Alaykum, Hola, etc! Denver mod team here. You may have noticed that some posts on this sub purporting ICE sightings, have been removed. I wanted to speak directly as a member of the immigrant community, lived experiences of myself, my and share some feedback as to why.

The TLDR is, if the post contains photographic proof, it can stay. If it is speculative or text only, it will be removed. For the record, we support human rights, and this immigration matter is something that is personally touching our communities, families, and friends.

No speculative and unsubstantiated posts without photo proof. In order to reduce and prevent the spread of misinformation and speculation, this post has been removed. Any posts purporting ICE or law enforcement activity, must be report to the CORRN ICE Activity Hotline: 844-864-8341 first, and must be accompanied by photo proof.

To avoid the spread of misinformation and speculation, no "why cops here" posts are allowed. Please check official law enforcement social media pages for accurate information, as well as news sources. If you are registered for CodeRed and reverse 911 messages, you may receive a message if the police/fire/ambulance scene you are witnessing is emergent and there is imminent danger to you.

Some background. Months ago, there was a post made, purporting a massive ICE raid at a local grocery store, the OP alleging that they heard a manager say that ICE was there to gather up all the bad employees, and it incited mass chaos and fear. Understandably, from the immigrant community, the first thing we worry about is our family members, our friends who are working at that grocery store. Maybe we work and shop there and skip work or getting groceries, out of fear of what has been reported on Reddit. Maybe that day, we keep our kids home from school, as this news spreads like wildfire, and is taken as gospel.

Within an hour of that post, another user commented with a photo, showing that in fact, there were dozens of LOCAL police vehicles at the local grocery store. What were they doing? Hosting a toy drive and school supply Shop with a Cop event. The allegation that the OP saw arrests being made, heard a malicious comment from the manager, and that ICE was even there, was materially false. This incited a cascade of panic and fear throughout the community, all because of a text only post with no photographic or substantive proof.

Another thing I have personally experienced and watched, is the very disgusting and unfortunate rise of racist, usually white supremacist trolls. As part of the strategy of terrorizing and intimidating minority communities, they create hoax posts, to incite fear and literally, terror.

Here’s how it works:

Random racist troll posts a “trust me bro” text only post, purporting to have seen ICE. The more viral examples of this, they have posted false flag sightings at places like factories that largely employ migrant workers, community hubs, grocery stores, bus stops, and schools. Of course, out of fear, one from my community might see that post, take it as gospel, and skip work, keep their kids home, and be prisoner in their own home, out of fear. Naturally, there are cascading consequences, such as being fired from your job, not having enough PTO, kids falling behind in school, no access to meals, and the psychological torment of being prisoner in your home. Although there are many good faith actors on the internet, we have to take notice of the tactics and strategies being used to disrupt and bring terror to the lives of very vulnerable populations. Speculative posts without substantive and photo proof are actively causing harm.

There are other times where there are photos, but they are of local police officers doing fugitive apprehension. As a reminder, Colorado law enforcement does not assist ICE with arrests. They do use unmarked vehicles, and typically a black or navy-blue vest with POLICE or SHERIFF marked on it, and typically a name tag and badge emblem. ICE may also wear vests that often have POLICE on them also, but most commonly, in the camo tan color that we have largely seen. Not always, but most commonly. They also almost always have a face covering, whereas local police officers typically do not. You can also look for the patch on their uniform shoulder (if present) to identify their affiliation.

In taking a stand to protect the community, we will be removing any text-only reported sightings. Yes, sometimes the racist trolls use AI to create fake images of scenes, and we will look out for those bad faith actors. We will not stand for supremacists instilling fear in our community by way of false flag posts designed to insight panic and terror.

In the same vein, we will be deleting “Why are there cops/fire guys at X?” posts. Quite simply, it creates the potential for false flag panic when redditors are speculating or spreading misinformation about what could have happened or is happening. Furthermore, it is best to get the news from the source and monitor local news and official law enforcement pages. If it were emergent to you, if you are signed up to received CodeRed and reverse 911 texts, you will be notified to shelter in place, and typically a press release to follow when the matter is resolved. There was an instance where a family member had to find out about their loved one being deceased on Reddit, after someone posted a pic of the scene with “Why cops here?”, and that’s how they had to learn the news.

As we navigate through a time of fake news, AI, and very brazen hate and racism, we always strive for this sub to be a place of comfort and fun for many, and also accurate, truthful, and good-faith information. I truly hope the explanations given make sense, and we welcome discussion.

This is not about silencing certain politics but reducing the amount of very harmful gossip and terror tactics that are destroying people that you and I work with, play sports with, go to school with, ride the bus with, do business with, buy food from, share laughs with, workout with, raise families with, and love.

Thank you. And to the terror trolls who think they have a platform here to abuse our community through lies- you will be deported very swiftly from this sub.

Misc Q&A Dear whoever called me an ambulance, thank you!

Just this past Sunday, a block from my home in the North Upark area, I crashed an ebike, slid across the pavement, and was knocked out cold. Thanks to whoever was kind enough to call me an ambulance, I was rushed to the hospital and given emergency surgery for multiple wrist fractures and I'm likely to make a full recovery. This never would've happened if it weren't for whoever called the ambulance in the first place, so whoever you are, thank you! You saved this idiot their range of motion forever. And to the rest of you, don't be like my dumb ass, wear a helmet and ride safe!!!

Lost/Found Looking for Stolen Gear - Hoping for a miracle

On Sunday night on 6th and Kalamath my co-production manager’s vehicle was broken into and quite a bit of the gear we use for our live shows was stolen. I’ve included a list with as much detail as we have. Serial #s can be provided if proof of ownership is needed.

I work for a local wrestling company doing production stuff. We’re called Rocky Mountain Pro if you’d like to google us. Reddit has always came through for me so I’m posting here hoping someone has maybe seen something. A police report has been made, apparently he’s known in the area to the police and goes by “A-dog” and hangs around the area of the king soopers on Speer to kalamath and 6th.

The first picture is the gentleman who stole our stuff carrying two of the bags. Since he walks the area a lot my co-producer saw him while driving around but was unable to make contact. The second picture is the application he’s built out for the tablet, which is one of the stolen items.

The Apple products have been activated with findmy, but the devices have yet to be powered on. Same with the Google find hub on Samsung devices.

If anyone knows anything we’d be eternally grateful. Free tickets for life. We have spent all summer building out a road kit from basically nothing and to have it all stolen is gutting and a tremendous setback.

Mac Mini (2011, silver)
2 Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultras (black in black cases)
Lenovo Yoga Laptop (Silver)
Galaxy Tab S9 + 5G (in a thick black shockproof case)

Netgear 8 ch. Network Switch
Linksys Router

Big rectangular road bag pictured above

Multiple USB-C to HDMI adapters
Multiple USB-C to Ethernet Adapters
Silver Samsung 1TB SSD
Red Samsung 500GB SSD
Ethernet cables
Black Backpack

Misc Q&A Anyone else feel like South Broadway is dying a slow death?

Prompted by the closure of parlor donuts, but I'm just thinking over the last couple years of how many businesses have closed in Baker even since I moved here just in 2024, and how few have opened. The hornet, mutiny, boyztown (although even as a gay I don't particularly miss this one), banded oak, probably more than I am thinking of, but of all of these spaces only the banded oak location has something new coming and it's been over a year. What gives? What will it take for this trend to flip flop?

Moving/Relocation Renter - deposit withholdings

• Upvotes

Hi, just wanted to share a recent experience I had with a private landlord. My landlord wrote into the lease that they withhold $550 from security deposits for a cleaning fee. There’s a recent law which no longer allows this to be mandatory, but I did not have time to deep clean myself prior to move out, so I agreed to have them coordinate cleaning. My landlord withheld the written in cleaning fee, so I asked to see a receipt or invoice (I thought that sounded really high for a move out clean). A week later, my landlord emailed me apologizing with a scan of the invoice for $300 and an additional check back for $250. Just wanted to bring awareness for anyone who has any portion of their security deposit withheld - it is your right to request documentation of those costs. Your landlord has 14 days from the time of request to provide receipts or they lose the right to those withholdings. Nearly half of what they attempted to withhold was a junk fee and not allowable in Denver. Know your rights!

Misc Q&A What would you do in my position?

I left a suburb of Denver to come back to my home area in Southern Maine and I have become super depressed. I moved back here because jobs in my field pay slightly higher here, and to pursue furthering my education. I also have better access to medical care here for certain health issues, based on affordability. I miss the sunshine, wide open skies, mountain access, dry air, and happier people... I've been back for about five months and I'm struggling, but I have six months left on my lease. I'm dreading the heavy winter here. The job market and cost of living in Denver feels prohibitive, and like I'd have to work two jobs to make it work, which would cancel out the enjoyment of being in a place that makes me so much happier, which is what happened before.

Event Over apps/want to meet someone in real life? Come to Evans School tomorrow night (Oct 15)

My friend and I threw a singles dance party last year because … well, we think dating apps are boring. We wanted to have fun, so we created the event we’d want to attend. 200+ people showed up, so we’re doing it again.

It’s tomorrow at Evans School (above Schoolyard Beer Garden). Singles only, all genders/orientations welcome. Live band, first drink’s on us, apps (the food kind) all night. If dancing isn’t your thing, there’s blackjack and tarot readings too. Our main rule is simple: if you’re coming, buy into the thing! Talk to strangers. Shoot your shot! Have fun.

Tickets are $50, and if you grab 3 at once you get a discount applied automatically. So if you’ve got single friends who keep complaining about the apps... this is your sign to drag ‘em along

Tickets: http://events.humanitix.com/denver-dance-hall
More Info: denverdancehall.com

Thanks to everyone who already grabbed tickets and shared it around. See you on the dance floor!

TL;DR: Billionaire Phil Anschutz REALLY doesn't want 7A to pass, so the institute he bankrolls is trying to trick voters into thinking CoCo is a retread of FastTracks or RTD's failures, when it's actually set up a lot more soundly.

Speer - I can go 1mph or 85mph but somehow, I get to my destinations at the same time. But also as I’m driving down Speer, it never feels like I’m getting further destination, yet somehow also closer?

Colfax - If one of your favorite past times is hitting 4,786 red lights and construction slowdowns where you merge into one lane 74 different times, this is the street for you

I’m not going to touch CO blvd, I’ll let someone else mame that dead horse

Recommendation Scream Acres experience/wait times?

• Upvotes

Last year my friends and I had a horrific experience with wait times at Fritzler Farms/Scream Acres, we didn’t end up getting into the haunted maze at all after spending 3 hours in line and risking frostbite. They’ve advertised a new check in/admission process this year, has anyone gone who can report their experience and whether it’s been an improvement?
