Seriously, has anyone looked at the emissions testing program in the last ten years besides to raise the fee $10? What good is this program doing these days!?
I mostly walk, bike, or use public transit to get where I'm going. I'm literally the ideal front ranger -- I have a clean car that I very rarely drive. Because I rarely drive, I rarely, if ever, pass by the mobile screening stations.
What is my reward for being a good little boy? Every two years I get that "EMISSIONS TEST REQUIRED" on my renewal. Every two years I have to make a special trip IN MY CAR to get it tested where it sits and idles doing no good for anyone. Every two years I have to stalk the Wait Times and try to find when my schedule doesn't collide with crazy wait times. Last time I went, the wait was predicted at 33 minutes. It ended up taking two HOURS.
My car is in excellent shape and easily passes missions. Surely they have a record of all the test results from this VIN? What if:
- your car has passed emissions by a certain percentage 3 consecutive times, your test cadence gets extended to 5 years?
- or your car has never failed a test, it gets extended to 3 years?
- or conversely, your car barely passed, so you get a 1 year cadence?
Can we use our goddamn noggins and figure out a better path?
Why does every government initiative get stood up and then left idling? This is how people get radicalized into being a "small government" loon (I am definitively not, but this is how it starts). Nearly 5% of the registered cars on the road emit NO EMISSIONS AT ALL.
Why do I pay for all this malarky when I could just register my car in South Dakota or just... not register it at all?! Help me make this make sense.
