Discussion 💭🗯️ Do you think that the Biden era 2020s (2021-2024) was a breather between 2020 and 2025-now?

I believe that the Biden era 2020s (2021-2024) was almost a breather between 2020 and 2025-now because it was caught up between the two chaotic Trump eras and people want a return of normal politics. Do you agree that the 2020s Biden era felt like a breather between 2020 and 2025-now?

No, the entirety of 2016 until 2028 will be remembered as the Trump era. Even while Biden was president, all attention was still on Trump.

How unpleasant. We just can't get away from him.

I think it’s both this and what OP said

No, because democratic backsliding and the rollback of civil rights continued throughout the Biden era. The economy and the world grew more unstable with inflation and the wars started by Israel and Russia. The previous President was not punished for his coup attempt in January 2021. I think if anything, the first half of 2021 after Biden’s inauguration and the lifting of pandemic restrictions is the only real “breather” we had. But things quickly went downhill from there.

I think the inability to punish Trump and MAGA will be viewed as part of the overall institutional weakness that allowed him to take over in 2016. It’s all of a piece.

Biden was a band aid on the collapse of the Obama era Democratic Party — which collapsed because it was old, technocratic, policy obsessed, and honestly up its own ass. And of course, Biden exemplified all of these characteristics to a tee.

But the GOP collapsed, too, and that’s why Trump could take it over so effortlessly. It’s not just a Dem problem.

Anyway, both parties are now something completely new. We know what the “new” GOP is — it’s a mafia party focused only on how much it can make by selling off the fed gov a piece at a time. We’re about to see what the new Dem party is in November. Which is wild — usually it’s a President that ushers in a new party direction. But I really think the new party will show up during this midterm.

Yes. I don't even really keep in touch with National politics that much but I was a lot happier 2022 through 2024 compared to the prior and after times.

Biden era from an outsider perspective seemed like a joke. USA didn’t feel anymore like a strong leading country but a literal joke.

Does it feel different under Trump? We seem like the laughing stock of the world.

no, history will probably see Obama as the beginning of the personality-driven, anti-establishment era of politics that actually includes Trump. they have more in common than people realize from that perspective, they were both elected essentially on their outsider status relative to their own parties. Biden will be a footnote within that larger trend, not a breather, just a slight continuation of Obama for a short amount of time.

I mean, technically, I guess, but mostly to the people who lived through it, not really to people looking back at it.

Answer, Yes and No. He did bring back sanity and predictability into American Leadership however he had to inherit the political instability and chaos from the outside.

Late 2022-Early 2024 felt like a calm between storms.

No, and only 2022 felt like a slight relief. The Biden era did nothing for anyone but keep us in limbo until that clown Trump got reelected  by actual real life bots of this dogshit ass country. Thanks MAGA.

Sorta but we still had maga Republicans running around making laws against trans people and banning books out of libraries. Ron Desantis was the most notable one
