Discussion 💭🗯️ People could still get along in the 2010s. The 2020s era marks the beginning of the end for humanity

COVID-19 lockdowns destroyed our mental health. They created a cascading effect on our economy and set the stage for decades to come. The 2020s started on this note.

The 2010s were marked by a general sense of unity among the peoples. We were united more or less despite the rising cause of populism sweeping the globe as it is doing today.

Compare that to the 2020s, and it shows how everyone is now angsty and on the verge of crashing out in public. The number of fights recorded in 2020s far surpass the 2010s. With this, I fear for the future of humanity that we would not live till the 22nd Century.

This is revisionist propaganda the 2010s were just as divisive as the 2020s are

It was no happy clappy era where everyone held hands in harmony

Doomer nonsense. We’ve been through eras 10x worse than today, yet humanity still persisted. The 2020s isn’t some apocalyptic decade that will end everything, touch grass.

2020s will have some big nostalgia in the future made by kids and teens who grew up in this era

Yeah this is a dumb post. Crime did go up in 2020-2022 but it wasn't like something crazy lol

True. If we’re talking crime, the 70s were way worse than today.

Don’t forget the 80s-early 90s crime rate was so high.

Social media was a nicer place to be since yesterday, after the Ukrainian strike on the Yandex data centres. It does give me a little more hope for the future.

...I don't think you are old enough to remember 2010's politics.

  • Gamegate
  • SJWs
  • People calling Obama a Muslim and illegal immigrant.
  • Trump's first term
  • Hate groups quit hiding in the last half.
  • The discourse around Ghostbusters 2016.

A bit overly doomer as others have pointed out, but I think there's some truth. The biggest difference is that early 2010s social media wasn't really algorithm driven. Your feeds were people or groups you chose to connect with.

2015 and on fake news started to go widespread and more and more "suggested" posts entered feeds trying to attract clicks. At the same time, local media began to fade and so people consumed the content that was pushed on to them and would rage against dumb stories that previously wouldn't leave the city it occurred in, but now reached everyone and created fault lines between complete strangers.

Maybe covid was bad in the US, but here it wasn't that significant

1

u/maclordletsgo 1d ago

wasnt that bad tbh lol i remember people were still hanging out when the lockdown first started.

People still hang out with their friends

Why do people say covid warped their sense of time and that it ruined their mental health? Plain exaggeration?

That wasn't the majority of people but people were still outside i remember once may/june hit people were back outside. And I think alot of people have been doing stuff there whole life so when the had to sit inside for a month or two they went crazy. It wasn't that bad unless you were old or a baby.

I think the thing was is that it was pretty clear early on that Covid primarily impacted the old, fat, and feeble, and yet, despite this, fit and healthy young people were also forced to stay home and put their lives on hold

u/MrJdawg1784 1d ago

How long was your life on hold? Couple months?

2

u/Many-Dream3403 1d ago

I don’t think masks were lifted here until like 2022, so close to two years

1

u/MrJdawg1784 1d ago

so your telling me you couldnt do anything for two years? lies bro wtf. So your saying george floyd riots people were not outside? fourth of july? Halloween partys? come on bro over over exaggerated. All you had to do was wear a mask. SMH

1

u/Many-Dream3403 1d ago

lol, masks were and are degrading

1

u/MrJdawg1784 1d ago

That's explains why I caught covid several times and it felt just like any other basic flu
